Yes, let's get him if we can. Right now it's looking like Golson will be back in 2014, but can we rely on that? I don't think we can. Imagine a scenario in which a) Golson is not able to return to ND (btw I think that is unlikely) and b) Hendrix doesn't return for his 5th year. We will have one non-freshman QB on the roster in 2014, Zaire, a sophomore (possibly RS frosh). That is a scary situation. I would love to get Wes Lunt to shore up our QB depth in 2014.
Agree.

Pans fan, I think a lot of nd fans get in an uproar because of the type of transfer we lose. "It only happens to ND". Statement I am referring too. What other schools have lost as many 5* rated players as us? Gunner, Lynch, Tee, Neal, and possibly EV. All were listed as 5* in some rankings and that is 5 of them in less than 1.5 years.

I don't see any other university that has lost to transfer even close to that. Many high ranked players.

That is what I think a lot of our fans are up in arms about.

ND Already has problems keeping stability at qb without adding another kid with recent troubles. Id be shocked if he landed at ND.

I like the idea gives us options if we decide not to keep Hendrix for a 5th

Especially if Golson doesn't return. But assuming he does, then we've got three four-star QBs sitting there with three or more years of eligibility, behind another with two years. Transfer City.

Right. I wrote this a ways back about Wes Lunt, and it's basically still true ... just replace "Wes Lunt" with "Connor Brewer" in the above post.

I find it really strange BK would take in a guy that's transferring from his original school because he didn't want to compete for the job when BK basically said he didn't want guys that are scared of competition (not in those words) when Gunner transferred? What's the difference between Brewer and Kiel?

Not much. That's why I want Brewer. Both are talented QBs who will have three years of eligibility remaining in 2014. But Kiel's gone, so there's no QB in the class that entered in 2012.

We need another scholarship QB on the depth chart in 2014. At best we'll have three QBs. I think we need another who can play if Everett doesn't come back or gets hurt, Malik gets hurt or isn't ready and Kizer gets hurt or isn't ready yet. I don't want to take another QB in the 2014 class; I want the QBs to be staggered on the depth chart. Since Kiel left, there is no one on the depth chart at Brewer's eligibility year. I'd love for Brewer to fill the hole.

I agree with everything you wrote, but I think you misunderstood my question. Kiel left because he didn't want to sit behind Golson for 3 years and was probably scared off by Zaire to some degree. On his way out, didn't BK say he wanted guys that weren't scared of competition (again, not in those words)? So, Brewer left Texas for the same reason Kiel did, so don't you find it strange BK is pursuing him?

Texas transfer QB's always end up at SMU it seems. I bet he goes there or back to AZ to sign with ASU. Dont' see him at RichRod because he more of a pocket qb

I see your point. If maximizing his playing time is Brewer's chief goal, ND is probably not the place for him. But his priorities are for him to work out, not BK. If I'm BK, and I see a talented guy who can fill a hole on the depth chart for me, I'm certainly going to make inquiries. I'm sure BK will tell Brewer that he'll have to compete for playing time and there's no guarantee he'll get any, with the talented QBs we already have or have in the pipeline. If Brewer is ok with competing, great. If not, we are no worse off.

You're right. BK will lay out the situation and make no promises of playing time. If Brewer accepts these, his priorities will have changed. It doesn't hurt for BK to gauge his interest in ND. I just don't think Brewer's priorities will have changed so quickly and he will need to take a big gamble on Golson coming back or not. If Golson comes back, Brewer's in no better position than he was at Texas. If Golson doesn't come back, Brewer could be walking into a very inviting depth chart. Unfortunately for Brewer, he will need to make a decision before knowing Golson's fate and my guess is he doesn't take the gamble and looks for a better guarantee of playing time.

Yep. It will likely be just like Lunt ... Brewer will go somewhere where he has a better chance at playing time. But it would be great if he'd visit and fall in love with ND.

ND would be horrible for him. If he's looking for playing time sooner rather than later, he doesn't have a very good chance here. Stanford probably wouldn't be good either with the emergence of Hogan. I'm sure he doesn't want to go to Duke, and Tennessee will be wait and see if Butch Jones can make them competitive in the SEC again. That leave Bama among the teams listed that have contacted him. With Brewer having to sit out a year, and McCarron on his last year, I could see Saban picking him up.

Can someone explain to me where the rumors/insinuations of Bryant and/or Folston transferring came from or originated. I have seen numerous posts allude to it as if it is a matter of time. I just want to be sure I am not reading into anything too much.

Some poster (not a regular) said something about Bryant not being happy after the Temple game (the guy was a student at ND apparently and knew people on the team). It's in Bryant's thread. TIFWIW.

I think Lax also said that he's hearing heard Folston is gone if things don't change. I can't remember which thread this was in.
