Weird, don't know why he'd be interested in ND, with it looking like 3 more years of Golson coming up.

Did it say He was interested? Or was ESPN just stating the possibility?

No clue why ND is being mentioned. I can't read the ESPN article; don't have Insider. The Tulsa World article just says "another source close to the situation indicated Notre Dame could be a player in the Lunt derby."

I wish they would reveal the source so we could evaluate the reliability of that tip. I am awfully skeptical. Lunt would have to sit out 2013 and then he would have two years remaining, right? Presumably Golson will start for the next three years. What does Lunt gain by transferring to ND? He'll be worse off in terms of playing time.

What I've read is that Lunt doesn't like the uncertainty at OSU and wasn't happy with the level of communication between him and the staff during the spring QB competition. Those are exactly the things that Gunner ("I want to go somewhere where a senior is the starting QB") and Crist complained about, respectively. Unless proximity to home is the biggest thing (I've heard it's a factor), I don't know why we would be a "player in the Lunt derby." Just don't see it.

On the other hand, if his priority is being close to home and he doesn't mind being a backup, might not be a bad pickup. In fact it would be great for our QB depth in 2014.

the espn rumor article doesn't mention anything other than what has been posted...just a source close to situation said it was a possibility

.another source close to the situation indicated Notre Dame could be a player in the Lunt derby," Jimmie Tramel of the Tulsa World reported.

Lunt has to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules. He would be a redshirt sophomore during Golson's senior (academic) season. Golson could then pursue a career in the NFL. It would allow Lunt to start two seasons for the Fighting Irish if Notre Dame is legitimately interested in pursuing the quarterback and vice versa.

"Lunt will consider proximity to his Illinois home as well as the relationship with the coaches he'd be playing for," the source told Schad.

Ah thanks Panda. For some reason I thought he had played two years at OSU. So now it makes a little more sense, but not much. He's taking the same deal that Gunner rejected. Golson probably won't go pro; I just don't see an NFL skill set/physical profile there. So at most Lunt will have one year as a starter, and he'll have to compete with Malik for it. I just don't see it, unless he just wants to be close to home.

Anytime I hear the word "sources" in reference to ESPN articles, I immediately picture a smelly janitor giving out tips to writers about some inside info he happened to hear. It's this same "source" that was predicting the inevitable ACC implosion that was forthcoming as the B1G was going to steal away all their good teams. Nice work, Mr. Janitor.

Southern Miss because Todd Monken, former OK State OC, is now the head coach

Really? What's the point of restricting him from schools in a different conference?

That's pretty crappy. I'd understand if they had them scheduled but to say he can't go somewhere because he wants to go there and it would be a good fit isn't right.

I absolutely hate when a new coach comes in and blocks a kid from following a former coach. Many of these kids choose a school because of a certain coach/staff and then get stuck with a staff they don't like. The NCAA really exploits these athletes and I wish there were better rules about transferring like only being able to block a transfer to a team on the schedule.

I don't necessarily agree with the decision, but IIRC the SEC has the most bowl matchups with the Big-12.

I can maybe understand if you're blocking a player from transferring within conference, but if you're blocking from another conference on the chance that you could play them in a bowl...just seems silly. For one, he's not projected as the starter of your current team and he's going to have to go somewhere else and sit a year. You figure that your current starter must be better than the guy you're losing, or you at least have someone in the wings that will be nearly as good or better than the guy you're losing by the time he sees the field. Theres really no reason not to let him go where he wants and avoid the bad publicity.

Be careful what you say about transfers. They come out of out of the blue when no one expects them..So you can have your opinions on restricting or not restricting kids, but when it happens at ND dont play devils advocate.

I hate losing kids but as long as they don't go to an opponent, I have no problem with where they choose to go. Gunner to USC, Michigan, or Stanford? Please no. Gunner to Cincy, go for it and good luck.

If Martin took a head coaching job and that same year we had a qb transferring I think a lot of people on here would have a problem with letting the qb follow him. I would not be comfortable with that happening. I don't think schools should make it unnecessarily hard to find a school to go to but I definitely understand a school wanting to prevent a former coach from "poaching" the program.

My only issue as a head coach would be to let the kid go to a future opponent. After that, pick away. I hear Kansas is ready to turn things around.

I see where you're coming from, but I hate Michigan so much that I want OSU to have superior talent.

See it's different for those by location. I think we can all agree neither of us really like the Suckeyes or scUM. But I think for me I would rather see Michigan have superior talent and beat OSU every year, living near the colums region, I can tell you these suckeye fans are a unique breed, and not in a good way. I'm still trying to comprehend some of these morons that felt that at the end of last season that they deserved and should be playing in the NCG, as if they completely forgot about the sanctions, completely forgot that they had just broken NCAA rules the season before and were not eligble for a bowl game. Just a complete breakdown in processing information these OSU fans went through. Then they and ESPn has the nerve to predict them to play in the NCG, I'd pick a two loss SEC school over an undefeated OSU team, which based on that DIII schedule that they are playing this year, how don't they go undefeated?

This is the type of schedule that you create in NCAAF 2013 so that you can sim through the season and 'know' you don't have to reset because of a loss.

Wes Lunt anybody?

Yes, let's get him if we can. Right now it's looking like Golson will be back in 2014, but can we rely on that? I don't think we can. Imagine a scenario in which a) Golson is not able to return to ND (btw I think that is unlikely) and b) Hendrix doesn't return for his 5th year. We will have one non-freshman QB on the roster in 2014, Zaire, a sophomore (possibly RS frosh). That is a scary situation. I would love to get Wes Lunt to shore up our QB depth in 2014.
