I posted what I thought was some interesting information about the ND football team and still no thread. It was my first post and I was all excited to contribute to a site that I follow religiously.

Practice field

I have heard that the team will spend a week at Shiloh Park in Marion, IN starting the 4th or 5th of August. Just curious if anyone else had heard the news?

Thanks for the clarification...I thought about the General Team Info and the Fall Camp threads.

It is my understanding that the UND invested 70-80k into a practice field and the facilities and will spend a week each August at Shiloh Park.

Let me google that for you

Recently, the University of Notre Dame coaching staff contacted us about the possibility of using Shiloh
Park for their football team’s training camp. I am pleased to announce that we have a commitment with
the Fighting Irish starting the summer of 2013. We have given this prayerful consideration, carefully
communicated our guidelines, and corresponded with other Nazarene facilities that have hosted pro or
college teams. We are confident that accommodating this group for one week each August will boost
Shiloh Park’s revenue and align with our mission. BLAST OFF!

We have had some wonderful threads this morning. Anyone want to give a brief rundown of what Shiloh Park is for the uninitiated and maybe provide some color about why/if this is interesting?

I like this idea. My sophomore and junior years of HS we went away to a remote camp for a week and it was a great experience that really helped developed our team on and off the field. We didn't do it my senior year and it definitely had an impact. It will be good for the team to get away from the Bend and focus on building that team identity without the distractions of campus (e.g. creepers like LA snapping picks of them everywhere they go).

If they were indeed going somewhere more remote, away from media and working on teamwork, then I am all for it. This is a young team that needs to gel quickly.

Anybody else imagined the scene from "Remember The Titans" when they go to camp? It's where they built their trust for one another.

Me2SouthBend is correct about the minimum number of posts for newbies to open a thread. That's to minimize spam.

Indeed. Also thought of "Junction Boys," although I think it is safe to say it won't be quite that intense. Interestingly, NFL teams have almost all moved away from preseason "camp" at off-site locations and now do all their stuff at the team practice facility. As a team building exercise, I'm fully supportive of stuff like this.

This is exactly "IT" to my understanding. When I spoke to my vendor from Marion yesterday he said that Shiloh Park is located on the edge of town, yet surrounded by trees and gated to provide seclusion. I was excited by the info because I'm located about 15 mile from Marion.

LOL...one pic for a former student of mine who plays DB and worships ND and Bennett Jackson. I actually could have taken a ton more as I'm on campus every day to work out and I see players all the time (the campus is almost empty save for a few students and plenty of athletes, and Rolf's is right next to the Gug) but it's just not my thing.

This actually sucks because I had an in to watch the one of the first 2 practices of the season but now they'll be off campus. And then I'll be off to work for the rest of fall camp. They do have one open practice for families of workers of ND so that'll be fun to watch.

Yeah it looks like they have capacity for up to 144 in the two dormitories they have.

I kind of like it. Get away from campus and bond with the teammates.

Haha...all for the kids man. That Manti pic I never posted until just recently but I took it in December and my students and co-workers were flippin out. He was like a god back then.

The last one was my first time at a practice, my first month in South Bend, and yeah, I took a ton of pics for my buddies back home (all huge Irish fans). I was definitely creepin' back then and knew it too lol. But I was so jacked I didn't give a crap. Got a ton of good pics of some future NFL-ers. That Amir pic I took cause I didn't know who he was (despite seeing him live in practice at USC) and I couldn't believe how small the dude was, both in height and lack of girth. Thought he was either Amir or a walk-on.
