Both pick 6’s as well as the 3rd INT continue the trend os his career making poor decisions. He also showed poor accuracy again tonight on some wasy wide open throws. This has been the story of his entire career this far. It is not “by chance” that somebody throws as many pick 6’s and INT’s relative to his total pass attempts.
He’s tough and gutsy for sure, but has not shown anything to make me believe will be a good enough QB to take the team where it needs to go. I am rooting for him 100% and hope like hell he proves me wrong and makes the jump, but to date he is what he is…inaccurate with way too many really bad decisions.
nowhere have I said Buchner is not tough or, he's making poor decisions (based on plays given to run). It's college football... 'Rees' - here's your first play, look at the D line-up and here's your option.... I'm very happy with the 'final' result of this game. Maybe we all need to meet at Waffle House and have a discussion.

He also made a lot of really good throws. He just isn’t consistent enough.

Buchner sure takes you on a roller coaster ride, eh? Many plays where you see the talent and can envision a real dual threat weapon at QB, followed by many plays where it looks like he doesn't have a clue and his ball placement leaves a lot to be desired. He bounced back nicely after that horrendous pick 6, and showed great toughness all day - he took some real shots, and kept getting back up for more. I just wish that he had more games to play going into next season, but if Hartman indeed comes on board, it doesn't really matter.

To me, this was a game of two halves. In the first half, they looked tentative and flat footed far too much on defense. I would have thought that the Henderson fumble recovery would have settled things a bit, but they were out of sorts the whole half. But, give Al Golden and staff credit - they really turned it around in the second half, and held them to 7 points, and were very active. The pass rush was much better in the second half, and they did some hitting. Great to see.

As much as it's easy to rag on Rees for the slant call on the pick 6, he called a fantastic game. The wheel route to Diggs was set up beautifully, and the clincher to Mitchell Evans was an outstanding design and execution. With the hammer in the run game with both Estime and Diggs, and some potential dynamic capability from Price and Love, the diversity that the offense can provide gives me a lot of hope.

Great execution on the fake punt - Lenzy showed his speed, and was a factor today.

I wish that there had been connections with Styles, Colzie and Merriweather, but you can't have everything. Hope that Styles stays next year, and has an opportunity to bust out with better QB play.

This was a nice way to end the season for Freeman. Almost a reverse of the Fiesta Bowl from the beginning of the year.

Jordan Botelho and Rylie Mills both played solid games. loved seeing that. Going to need them to both step up big time next season. Go Irish!!!

1. In the first half SC threw everything and the kitchen sink at the defense. So much trickery it took a while for the guys to settle down. Incredibly difficult to prepare for their game plan. Not going to see all that on film and they were smart to game plan the big TE like they did.

2. All you guys who expect Buchner to look like a polished QB after three, 3, I repeat three starts in college are frickin nuts. Especially given our Oline and receiver situation at the beginning of the year. He made a couple of mistakes today no doubt, what three time starter doesn’t. He also made some truly incredible plays. After the toughness and resiIiency I saw just to get back from the injury, then run it and sling it like he did, only to have some jabroni’s act like they have him weighed and measured after three starts is laughable. Exactly the kind of guy I pull for, certainly don’t trash him from my couch. I will repeat what I said before, he beats out any QB we bring in not named Hartman and if Hartman chooses to go somewhere else…I’ll see you in Dublin TB12 LFG!

We’ve been all about the offense here. But a lot of the young guys on D got real, big-time minutes tonight. Sneed, Junior, Kollie, Mickey. All played a bunch. The future looks bright.

And I’m not sure what they gave the defense to drink at halftime but it was a completely different team in the second half.

For someone who should have had a ton of rust, TB didn't look too bad overall. The Pick 6's absolutely sucked, but if he cleans that up we're looking at a 52-24 final score. Even scoring 45 was pretty damn good, I think any of us would have taken that at the beginning of the day knowing that we weren't going to have Mayer for this one. I think I'm still sold on Hartman being the guy if he comes in, but I'm fine with TB if he can find his consistency and take care of the football.

Offense and Defense made great adjustments 2nd half after a shitty 1st quarter.

The 2nd pick was a toss up. Your excited he tried to make a play but at the same time just go down and let the punter do his job. His is pretty good.

Rattler was awful in second half. That helped.

I think of Buchner could end up a bit like Brady Quinn. Quinn only completed 47% of his passes as a freshman with 9 tds and 15 ints. Jr year he was 64.9% 32 tds, 7 ints. Sr year he was 61.9 37 tds, 7 ints. Buchner has the talent, he just hasn't had enough time to adjust to the college game. I hope we get Hartman, but also that Buchner sticks around. I also think it's weird that so many expect that Angeli would necessarily be better than Buchner, who was a higher rated player out of HS. The new guy is always the favorite. Anyway, when it was 21-7, I almost turned it off to take a nap, glad I didn't!

Such an odd game. So glad to get the victory after it looked like it was going downhill fast. MF now has a bowl win!

Buchner has to run. I get it more now. He's scary good at it.

Everybody’s like “when does Buchner transfer,” but with Minchey an EE I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Angeli who hits the road after spring ball.
Most of us get at least somewhat invested in recruiting and all, but fact is, there just isn't enough play time for everyone on the roster. With Hartman??, Buchner, Angeli, Minchey, Carr, etc, someone is bound to move on. Though I think having a 3-4 year starter at QB is becoming rare at major college programs. Unless there are no other options.

Agreed. I just think Angeli is most likely the odd man out. Assuming Buchner is willing to be patient. Which he seems smart enough to be.

Reading through the game thread was painful... half of the posters in there need to burn any access to this board, and really take long as look at themselves in the mirror. Was pretty cringe reading half that shit.

Good win in a battle of a game.
