Here is the problem:

Whoever this coach is didn't get to pick Caleb Williams and will be hired by Ryan Poles, a GM on the hot seat. If it goes bad in 2025 and Poles gets fired, you are now the HC of a team with a QB you didn't draft and a new boss who didn't hire you.

Vrabel is said to want personnel control. You have an owner Virginia McCaskey, President Kevin Warren after that, then a GM, then the head coach. As attractive as the roster might be, the organizational chart is not. The GM can't go directly to ownership, and a head coach that wants control of the roster won't want a GM at all let alone one that reports to a team president.

Shit Show at the F*ck Factory.

Well that's an easy thing to say no to. Shoot it got the GOAT fired in New England. Head Coaches should not get full control

This the Tommy thread.

All you Bears fans take your bellyaching to your Bad News Bears thread so I can continue to ignore it.
Thanks

I don't like that move. Obviously it's a step up position wise, but the Bears are just about as dysfunctional as the Browns at this point. Not sure jumping abord a sinking ship is the right course. Maybe Vrabel turns them around, I dunno. While the DeShaun Watson trade was the worst possible QB choice of the last decade, the Bears haven't been much better. If I'm Rees I probably wait and see what else opens up.

Man, if you can coach under Vrabel and have a young, dynamic QB, you take it. Not many better scenarios in the NFL.

I've seen the rumors that Tommy is linked with Vrabel as his possible OC next year.
Think Tommy regrets leaving ND?
Nah. Tommy was never just going to stay at ND as the OC. He’s young and wants to progress. I like having coordinators who are good with staying here and giving us stability. Both parties are better for him moving on. You never know, he may be back some day.

Tommy is a football guy and a good one. He likes coaching football. As long as he can do that with some freedom to be creative, he'll be happy. Whether he ever comes back to Notre Dame is, probably, an almost random process.

Denbrock if he decides to make this his retirement career stop is an ideal guy for us. As is, obviously, Al Golden. If Coach Freeman could keep those two, and Notre Dame do its share in paying everyone, he'd be nuts to skip away from ND for another job.

I'm watching Denbrock and Golden as much as any factor on our team as to creating a continuing championship threat. (Pardon for the Captain Obvious remarks --- I like Tommy but I think that he and Notre Dame are now just in the Old Friends Club.)

As a Browns and ND fan, I can only hope Tommy finds a better gig soon. After seeing the stupidity the Browns have shown with the QB position alone, it's a good way to torpedo your career. I thought coaching Njoku would be an easy feather in the resume cap this season, but Watson was incapable of getting his TE the ball. Most of the yards Njoku accumulated were once Watson got injured and Winston took over...and then the Browns benched Winston for worse backups.

Reading between the lines of some pre-Black Monday chatter yesterday, it sure sounds like Vrabel could well bring Tommy wherever he lands, which would probably be better than Cleveland. The next great Patriots OC? He was originally recruited to Notre Dame by Charlie Weis. Some things do come full circle.

Mayo is out in New England. All signs are pointing to the Patriots hiring Vrabel.

Patriots need work, but I have way more faith in Craft to do a rebuild than I do the Browns organization. I could see a hot young coach being successful there quick.

That was a stupid hire in the first place. Just like a lot of these coaches. They think just because you are a good coordinator you will be a good coach. Same as college.

The browns can’t hire another up and coming coordinator. They need some with experience to fix this shit show.

That's fine, but Mayo wasn't a coordinator. He was Patriots linebacker coach. Prior to that he played there for eight years.

They think just because you used to play for a franchise or college you will be a good coach. Robert Kraft hired the way many meatball fans would.
