That was a pretty good breakdown of the Irish offense the last few seasons.
The guy pretty much nailed it...
Rees has had to adapt to differing styles of QB play and a general lack of skill talent at WR every year, and the results have been pretty good when accounting for those limitations.
ND fans will at this point scream "but those limitations fall on the OC's head! He can't recruit/develop/keep talented QB's, and he didn't do enough with WR recruiting!" Whether that's true or not, he *shouldn't* have those issues at Bama. They will have talent everywhere, regardless of Rees' personal shortcomings in the recruiting department.
A lot of people are happy to see Rees go, and some are indifferent, while a lot of others are bummed and worried about what happens next.
It would be nice to get an established OC with a high-flying offense. Someone who coaches downfield passing better than Rees does... but it could end up being a "grass is greener" thing, as you might end up sacrificing a bunch of creativity in the run game. That Rees got the production he did from Estime/Diggs/Tyree last year, with only Mayer as a legitimately reliable weapon and having Pyne at QB, is pretty astounding.
Saban wants a coach who has shown both the dedication to commit to the run game, and enough creativity to keep defenses guessing, even if they know it's coming. He got that in Rees. And I'd bet he feels like he can work with Rees on developing the lacking part of his OC resume: deep passing concepts besides "fade to the outside receiver."
