If you didn't like BK's offense, you must have liked the exciting air raid we showed in the Fiesta, right? Obviously we weren't finding running room on the ground with OK State's stout defense. It was a good adjustment while the coverage was soft though. It was pretty shocking to see us go all Mike Leach on them. I think we're going to see a lot of electric offense in the next few years with these new recruits and BK's input removed.
Rees’s first half was the best of his career. The second half, and leaving Buchner on the sideline, left a lot to be desired.

I did enjoy the game the first half. The rest was the issue. One game does not make a career, but I hope to see more of what we saw in the first half.

Fair enough. Carr is a GREAT get. Tommy still fucked up '22 and (to this point) '23 QB recruiting. I'll also suggest his '20 eval was WAY fucking off.

What a buzzkill. Pyne was considered the 8th best Pro QB on 247 that year, whatever happened after or whatever inches he didn't grow...who cares. He and Angeli aren't exactly bottom of the barrel. They're arguably par for the course or better than what we deserve given recent history. I like how you completely disregarded Buchner like he's an afterthought. This is the biggest QB commit in over a decade, and in hindsight given Kiel and Crist's careers he's probably the biggest get since Clausen really...but lets knock Rees' for past recruiting when recruits often wondered if Kelly even knew their names. We've got a HC that is dialed in now, and we've got interested talent on both sides of the ball.

Sorry, I also forgot Brendon Clark in 2019

Buchner being the only needle mover between PJ and Carr to this point. You think that's good enough for a team that expects to contend for a championship?

Do you honestly expect better from a team that hasn't won a national championship in 34 years, nor a big January 1st bowl win since '94. We've lost 8 straight. Our last NFL QB to win any kind of award was Mirer just as long ago. Why do we deserve incredible talent when we've proven very little with the position in 30 years? We're lucky to get the talent we have. We completely don't deserve Carr. Credit Freeman and Rees for trying to change the narrative. Take the blue and gold glasses off for a second and ask yourself honestly...if you were a 5 star talent with big time NFL aspirations...why would you come to ND as oppose to an Alabama, OU, OSU, or any of the other football factories that have churned out modern NFL QBs. You act like it's a given we should have 5 star talent every year, come back down to Earth.

Rees being able to recruit with the rest of the current offensive coaches as well as MF is a huge upgrade over the previous situation with BK at the helm and especially Del at the WR position. It’s been less than 6 months and although the Moore saga has been odd, I feel things are headed in the right direction for QB recruiting.

Want to assign some blame to Kelly for giving lip service to recruiting? Given what Kelly did the last 5 years, you have to think ND might already have another NC if Kelly would have put in half the recruiting effort that MF does. I think Kelly is more to blame than Tommy for the lack of QB's.

CJ had this to say about Tommy.

“Throughout the whole recruiting process, I was really looking at how these offensive coordinators coached their quarterbacks. And he was really second to none,” Carr said. “I really could see myself playing for him anywhere in the country.”

Pretty strong. Maybe everyone will shut up about Tommy. I've liked Tommy's play-calling anyway; just don't have any data on how he coaches (until reading this by Carr.)
Now we just have to hope he stays around a few more years (but that one comment from Coach Freeman via Carr makes me think that he won't. Probably the comment was mainly CoachF assuring Carr that great QB coaching was part of this regardless of Tommy's presence. It also seems to indicate what a confident fellow Carr is to even be talking that frankly about what CoachF said.)

I think Tommy Rees could be back at ND in a big way someday.

Yep, that was an awesome comment. He also said that Tommy has been instrumental throughout the process, but he knew for sure he wanted to come here when he visited this Spring and Freeman made a point to visit and talk to him during both of his recent visits.

He said that when he did Irish Invasion in Spring 2021 and came on a visit last fall against USC, he never even met BK, not even for a second.

The personal touch Freeman brings to recruiting is paying dividends. It's great to see.

He will catch no flack from this, and that’s what bothers me. Poor Marcus probably doesn’t even have any power over Tommy Rees’ position

All in all would not hang this on Rees. O line was out numbered all night and Buchner being a experience minus could not make the calls on the fly. Bonus To OSU for their game planning. Overall, it could have been much worse. That being said a few screens…

Rees sucks. He's that guy in a company that just keeps failing upwards somehow and it makes you sit and scratch your head wondering if you're the moron.

He's a below average recruiter and a bad play caller. He shouldn't have ever gotten this position in the first place.
