hindsight is 20/20, but I doubt he leaves if he knew Saban would be one and done during Tommy's brief tenure there. But, ending up as a positional coach in the NFL isn't a bad option for him to follow up that brief stint, either.

Tommy is doing just fine. ND is doing just fine, after some brief Porker turmoil.

I wonder if he regrets leaving ND?
Na, he always wanted to get to the NFL. He got some great tutelage under Saban for a year, and while the Cleveland Clowns are the Cleveland Clowns, I think Rees will come out smelling like roses with Dorsey/Stefanski calling the shots offensively, and Njoku as Rees' primary TE. Njoku was 5th in receptions and tied for 3rd in TDs among TEs last year, 6th in yards. If the production remains the same or better it could lead to better things.

Future GA Tommy Rees
That’s about where he still belongs at this point in his career. Should be coming off a journeyman’s 6-7 years in the CFL and starting over. Guy owes Kelly a ton imo. Kelly got him tons of PT when he normally wouldn’t have seen any anywhere possibly. Seemed like he had good football IQ depending on how you look at it. Kelly also gave him the reigns when he wouldn’t have been at most a D2 QB coach. Wonder if Kelly would have him back. Would like to know what Saban and Milroy honestly think. Is Charlie Weiss Jr better? Got a better gig right now.
I think Tommy did pretty good with his led feet and weak arm. Not the best years at QB for ND but somehow he put up some numbers given the games played.

Mike Martz in his prime couldn’t make a Watson lead offense look good. I’m a card carrying member of the Tommy Rees haters club and even I don’t put any of the blame for this offense on him.
Right? Hard to defend the Browns when they bailed on Baker Mayfield (Who is doing pretty well in Tampa), they let the OL crumble, and they basically destroyed their culture with the OBJ and Watson signings. I don't even call myself a Browns fan anymore, their decisions are impossible to defend. Doesn't help that Chubb is still out.

This is all true and isn’t he just the TE coach and not the OC? Maybe he will fail up?!

Moving on from Baker was the right call. There's a reason he got cut from the next two teams he landed on. I'm glad he turned it around and matured but that wasn't going to happen in Cleveland. We should have used that draft capital to improve the roster instead. How much better are the Browns if they use that pick in 2023 that the Texans moved up with and take AR15? Or Will Anderson to go across from Garrett?

 No way, man, not even a little. Even if Baker never matures with the Browns into the player he currently is today, there's no scenario where trading the Browns' future is worth what Deshaun Watson brought (Or hasn't brought) to the franchise. $230 million guaranteed cash. Three 1st Round Picks! Plus 3 more picks.

What they got was a player that had not played for a year, wouldn't play for most of 2022, would get injured and miss most of 2023, not to mention he (still) has a shit ton of baggage and had 27 lawsuits facing him when the Browns decided he was worth that ridiculous trade. He hasn't played a full season since 2020, he's not shown that he's capable of being the player he once was. The Texans completely fleeced the Browns, but that's no surprise because the Browns' organization is constantly showing how stupid they are...look at how they jumped on the Manziel wagon. They ignored all the red flags there too.

He's the passing game coordinator, but again...focusing all the blame on him is ridiculous.

Basically a hit piece from Roberts.
Hmm, you’re probably right. Not fair to Tommy. Make it only 90% responsible.

Between Stefanski and Dorsey at OC, I doubt first year Rees has much say in the Browns' offensive plans even if he has the Passing Coordinator title. They've got Bill Musgrave as an Offensive Assistant too, that's 27 years of offensive experience in the NFL.

Did you not read the rest of my reply? Watson move was obviously catastrophically horrible. But those two decisions are independent of each other. They needed to move on from Baker, they also needed to just reset with either a Kirk Cousins type of veteran who would feast in Kev's offense, or another rookie QB.

Baker was fine. He won us a playoff game, which is more than any Cleveland QB can say for the last 3 decades. He got screwed because OBJ was a bitch and threw him under the bus in a year Baker was playing injured. Baker could have done a lot with those three 1st round draft picks we gave up for Watson, not to mention we don't know what those guaranteed millions has/will cost us in resigning stars. I get that hindsight is 20/20, but the Watson deal was a shit burger from the start. If we were hitting the reset button we would have been better off saving the picks and drafting another QB. Hell, could have had Stroud, the hometown hero! Going after Watson made zero sense.

Yeah you said it, he was fine. He was fine and he was looking for a giant contract he was never going to be worth. He needed to be humbled to accept some responsibility and work on his own game. Remember while he was with the Browns he refused to even work with a QB coach? You can blame it on OBJ if you want but he lost the locker room. If you're the leader of the team and your teammates all hate you there's no coming back from that. Myles is the most mild mannered guy around and he even told the FO it was Baker or him.

While it would have been amazing I don't think we would have had the ammo to get Stroud. The Texans got him with heir own pick. We would have been left with AR15 or Will Levis that year.

Giving Baker a new contract would have still been cheaper than the awful Watson deal. You act like Baker was awful. He threw for over 3,000 yards every season he played for the Browns, even his last year when he was playing injured. He got close to 4,000 yards twice. He got better each year until that last injured season. So far in 3 seasons the most yards Watson has produced for us is 1,115.

Ok, hypothetically say we stick with Baker and Garrett makes good on his promise to force a trade. Not that I'd want to lose Garrett, but can you imagine what we would have gotten for Garret at that time? We could have easily traded up to get Stroud and we still would have had a bunch (and maybe an extra or two after the Garrett deal) of 1st round picks for other players because we wouldn't be doing the gawd awful Watson trade. It doesn't matter if we trade Baker or Garrett, as long as Watson wasn't the outcome we're better off. The Watson trade is the worst possible thing that front office could have done, any other scenario would have been preferable.

Again, these aren't mutually exclusive. We could have not given Baker a new contract and also not made the worst trade in NFL history.

They would never trade Garrett. He's the best defensive player in the league. That wasn't really my point though. My point was that if even mild mannered Garrett was fed up with Baker's shit then you can almost guarantee so was the rest of the locker room. It was over. We had to move on, we just moved on in the worst direction possible.

Typically this is a title. Not a whole hell of a lot more.

Yeah, someone who clearly knows the audience.
