Him signing without an OC being named tells me he didn't have many other options.

The NFL is the most elite club in the world. You get into it any way you can.

Whoever thinks this is a step down is an utter moron. Not often do college coordinators jump to NFL as a coordinator. It's a step up and obviously where he wants to be based upon his efforts on the recruiting trail. Stop hating on the man. He gave ND everything he had multiple times. Good luck to him in Cleveland

What’s an NFL TE coach make compared to the OC at Bama? I’m sure he’s got a nice payout coming from not being retained. But I’m an utter moron so there’s that

A quick google suggests maybe $400K for the average NFL assistant coach. So, yes, less than he was making at Bama, or Notre Dame.
But like you said he probably has a buyout from Bama, and even if not has made a fuckton of money being one of the highest-paid assistant coaches in college football over the last few years, so he may have other considerations than just the paycheck.
If Rees wanted to stay in college for more money, I'm sure someone would've hired him.

To go from Bama OC to Cleveland TE coach? Woof.
But he was so smart to leave nd for bama, ha… another take I got roasted for when I said it was a dumb choice

When you take a role you aren’t ready or good enough for and a little adversity happens you end up in a worse spot than you were in

He did coach a suspect passing QB to the playoff. He seems good enough. His goal was always NFL. Now he has his chance to prove the hype he gets from some top college coaches. I wish him well.

Me too, hope he becomes a great coach!

But I’m 99% sure he expected to be an OC when he made it to the nfl

Ok... He made it to the NFL. Cool. Guess I just assumed it'd be as a QB coach...

Stefanski calls the plays so Rees was never going to be play caller. In fact, the teams he’s got connections to was never going to hand him play calling duties.

Or because he left ND last minute for a worse situation and screwed NDs offense in 23 and our chance at playoffs
To be fair, he spent damn near a full decade at ND as a player and coach, which at the point, was literally 1/3 of his entire life. I think he did more than enough for ND especially for how much grief fans gave him throughout that time.

Stefanski might relinquish based on who they hire as OC, but regardless it won't be Rees.

Plenty of people would love to coach at ND. It creates other opportunities. I'd say ND has given him plenty.
