I do not get how in the world you can consider what Tomlin did worthy of losing a freaking draft pick?

This is NOT anything like Spygate, where the Patriots were caught cheating, fined half a billion and lost picks too.

The fine itself is excessive, too, imo. I do not honestly think that he was trying to get into the way of Jones, nor was it explicit cheating like Spygate, or explicitly meant to cause harm to the player, as the Saints scandal was.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

I think the Steelers are about to get mega-screwed by the PTB in the NFL.

It's a warning shot to ensure NO ONE ever does this again...

I do not feel like taking a draft pick is the right thing to do. However I do think the 100k is not even close to enough. If the banned him from football it would not bother me at all. And I personally have no problem at all with him or the steelers.

Wasn't it a coach from the Jets a few years ago who PURPOSELY stuck his foot out and tripped the plaster running down the sideline? If that didn't lose them a draft pick, this shouldn't either

He knew exactly what he was doing. $100K is a good start. Draft picks may be too much, but just the warning of it will let others know to not think about it in the future.

There was a difference there (and I think it might have been the Dolphins but I could be wrong). The coach in the previous instance was behind the white area and the player had proceeded out of bounds. As I recall, there was a six figure fine there.

The reason the draft pick is being considered is because tomlin was in play and the league warned coaches about staying off the field the day before.

Rapist QB, cheating coach, most overrated qb on the hall of fame... that should do it.

And the nba fined Jason Kidd only $50,000 for PURPOSELY cheating at the end of a game.

I know the NFL isn't perfect, but this and the stiff Patriots penalties at least shows the league cares about cheating, certainly relative to other sports.

I wouldn't say blind eye. That would be mlb and the nba.

And as I understand it, the owners are and have been ready to proceed with HGH testing (as agreed to in the last labor agreement), but the union is stonewalling.

He knew exactly what he was doing. You can't watch the replay and think that he wasn't trying to alter the runner's course. 100k fine is very lenient. Should have been at least a quarter million. As far as draft picks go, they wouldn't be losing any if he hadn't cheated. No sympathy at all. Oh and their QB is a rapist.

I think the draft pick part is way over the top here. He cheated. Fine him. Not 100k, thats to low. A percentage of his pay. I would even push for suspension from a game or more than one.

Shoot, I thought this was a thread about Lily (One Ringy Dingy) Tomlin.

Honestly the first time I've even seen the play. Does he actually step his right foot further in to the field right before he sidesteps out? And he clearly peaks over his shoulder knowing he's coming. lol

While I'm here, I may as well parse II's post. Pissing people off with grammar shit is my stock-in-trade. "Into" (or "onto," which would be my preference) would be correct. "Peak" is the top of a mountain. "Peek" is a quick, furtive look.

Brickbats and (the rare) plaudits now being accepted.

Class dismissed.

Sorry, Irish Insanity. It's not personal. Really it isn't. It's just one of my many quirks.

Hahaha yes, I love the jab step he takes onto the field before getting out of the way.

If he were coaching his o-line, he'd be bitching at them for wasting a step to the right when they should be moving left lol.

He had a half foot on the field and then saw Jones coming from behind via the scoreboard.

I just think that the fine is enough. Anyone who actually considers that cheating tot he extent that the Patriots did....for a DECADE...I just don't see how you can make that comparison with a straight face.

Pats got off REALLY easily too, by the way. They honestly should have lost their SB "victories" as they ALL took place during the time that BB and Tommy Boy were "winning" Super Bowls, but because Goodell was only in his first offseason, he obviously felt that he did not have near the same power that he does now, which makes this idea that taking a draft pick or changing their draft order is just fvcking BS.

And I am a Niners fan, so I have no love for the Steelers. Seems that the league is overstepping, again

Definitely overstepping, but a desperate move by a guy who is getting desperate for wins. I understand the fine, but the draft pick thing might be a bit far. However, I am okay with whatever the league dictates SO LONG as they remain consistent the next time something like this happens. I believe consistency of punishment has been one of their biggest problems.

You should see it from the opposite angle. The look on his face tells the whole story. This was not an accident.

How is the NFL to uphold the integrity of illegal gambling on football if they don't come down hard on this sort of thing?

Kinda looks like he was looking up at the jumbotron to see where the player was, hence him "not paying attention" to the play.
