Let’s say Carr wins job in Spring, I think they can hold onto Minchey if they want. If they like Minchey as QB2, you pay him (like they did Angeli) and show him this is what waiting your turn and putting out some tape did for Angeli, who likely departs for a starting P4 spot still

If they don’t trust Minchey to be QB2 in that scenario, you get a grad transfer and that probably would push Minchey out

Also Minchey presumably has not graduated yet. Angeli... maybe on track to this spring? That could be a factor that keeps Kenny here for another season anyway.

Your kinda glossing over this point. There isn't a team in the country that would look the same losing 3 starters on on the defensive line and a 4th playing on 1 leg.

What does this game look like if we have Mills, Botelho, Traore, and a healthy Cross? Then they don't have Sawyer, JTT, 1 starter at DT, and the other is hobbled.
I will hold onto the belief that the defensive line just wasn’t good enough this year. They got pushed around at times. They were not dominating. They benefited from a great back end of the defense. Cross was injured all year. Mills took a long time to get going. Traore looked like a stud and got hurt. That one is the biggest bummer for me. The defensive line could be better. Recruiting hasn’t been amazing there

I am not worried about. We just had the best season we have had in decades with the best team we have had in decades.

The staff did an amazing job with the players and the injuries.

Let’s pick up the recruiting a little and land a few more transfers with bigger names and we will be fine.

I believe and trust in this staff.

One nice side benefit of the extended playoff run (and injuries) is that guys who weren’t necessarily starters, like Rubio and Raridon and even Jagusah, got some big-time experience to bring into next year.

Gotta chuckle though how we’ll have guys with lots of experience at every position except for two of the most important positions on the field - QB and LT - where we’ll roll with guys who’ve barely played. (Knapp is sure nice to have on the line though)

Are the following the only (non-transfer) players who definitely will be out of eligibility next year? Am I missing anyone? Seven recruited players seems like a very low number.

Offense:
Kevin Bauman, Mitch Evans
Tosh Baker

Defense:
Rylie Mills
Howard Cross
Jack Kiser
Xavier Watts

Not trying to will it into existence, but I have a feeling there is an underutilized, yet very good player that will be a surprise transfer.

It will be a no-fault strictly business decision.

Outbound? Price or one of the LBs (Sneed? Ausberry?) would seem the most likely. Only so many snaps to go around, and any of those guys could start on very good teams.

Would hate to see any of these guys leave. Our QB whoever it is will not be running as much as Leonard did. Should mean more touches for our deep group of RBs. I really think Kendron Young is the guy between the tackles for short yardage situations from the few touches he’s had this season in obvious run situations. Runs as hard as anyone we have.

I hope all the kids stay and do a bona fide QB competition this spring. I don't care about stars. I care about winning.

Our most recent qb's have been kids who weren't highly recruited. Buchner's development was severely stunted.

I would like the kids who we recruited to get a shot. We got three kids that deserve a shot this spring or fall if necessary to earn the job. I expect one to leave to go play and I won't fault them for it.

I believe Angeli stays in this scenario and I hope Minchey would stick. Angeli is so close to a ND degree and let's be honest, probably doesn't have a shot to play in the NFL. Why would he bail right before getting his degree? Angeli seems to be very level headed. I see him leaving as a grad transfer the following spring

We should have a good rotation of guys at WDE and DE. Logan Thomas is gonna be good showed flashes at times this year, Burgess coming in may get a bump and is a high 4 star borderline 5 star. Kid will play and play a lot net year.

If he stays through the spring Angeli will have been on campus for 3.5 years + summers. I would be surprised if he needs over 4 years to graduate

The only 2 teams I look at next year that I think inherently should have better odds than ND are Oregon and Texas. OSU is replacing their entire defense and half their offense. They ain’t repeating. PSU is laughable with what they’re replacing and lacking. ND should be same odds as Bama IMO

OSU is replacing everyone on offense except Smith, Tate and 1 lineman. Objectively without looking at the name brand they shouldn't even be top 15. This is the definition of a rebuilding season

I agree, I think the Dline could be very deep next year. I think they were deep this year, but the injuries piled up and negated how deep they truly were.

Minchey is QB #3 heading into spring. QB battle is between Carr and Angeli.

It's gonna be such an awesome QB competition. I'll quietly be rooting for Carr but may the best man win. This reminds me of when I was rooting for Golson when he was a redshirt freshman

I think Knapp starts at LG and Lambert gets snaps as a backup at both tackle spots. Sneed might leave
