ugh...love the graphics...looks super cool in photo shop in green and black...

but the person charged picking the color...well, its like the guy on the street so desperate to be "unique" his house looks like a friggin circus clown lives there...same thing with this shirt...well there is always next year I guess.

First one I ever saw that I likely will not buy.

I'll buy it but it's pretty lame. I agree with whoever it was that had the plain gray with blue NOTRE DAME idea. All in all it's just a t-shirt and if we punish our opponents all season long I'll cut the sleeves off that thing and don it GUNS OUT!!!

Remember, you can already buy a T-Shirt from the bookstore that is grey with "Notre Dame" in blue. The point of THE Shirt is for it to be different and unique for that year. Give the staff some credit, they are trying to keep each years unique while not going over the top with the changes. I think they did a great job this year! And I assure, the color is MUCH better in person than in any pictures online.

Irish fans. So fickle. :)

Purely from a design stand point, this is an awesome shirt. No stupid slogan, no weird script that is hard to read, or picture that is hard to make out.

The color? So it's a lighter shade of blue...the horror!!! I'm completely fine with it because,

A.) It's kind of boring to come out with the same navy blue shirt & people will complain about the color no matter what.

B.) The school can't figure out which shade of blue to wear on the field, so not a huge problem to have the shirt be a vibrant blue that sticks out. Would it be better to have an almost black shirt like last year's jerseys?

Meh!

I'm with Bambi – as much as I hate to say that.*

I'd just as soon see "The Shirt" stay essentially the same for a decade or three, with the only difference the current year noted somewhere on the shirt. Hell, put "2011" on one sleeve and "2012" on the other. Or "Notre Dame du Lac" on the front and the interlaced "ND" on the back with the current school year below it. Or vice-versa. [The "du Lac" serves to separate us from the cathedral in Paris and other schools.]

I'm not sure where things stand with current student classes, but in my day I was so damn dirt poor that I only bought a couple of shirts (with a low profile "Notre Dame" above the university's seal) and a pair of two of gym shorts with a subtle "ND" on the left leg.

I've always been partial to simplicity. Hell, what would think feel of a "throwback" that is tie-dyed with an image of Mr. Natural or the Flying Furry Freak Brothers incorporated?

I'd just as soon the university and set aside the added royalties and Hamm's the incremental added sales that come with changing the shirt every year in favor of consistency.

And no, I'm not here to rain on the parade of any creative students or faculty. It would be nice if the 2011 shirt looked essentially the same as the 2025 shirt when worn by students (or old fart alums or old/young fart locals in the stands.

The key would be to decide on a particular shade of gray, blue (NAVY!) or green. That would mean that, year to year, there might be solid blocks of visible solidarity in the crowd.

Besides, I've pretty much run out of storage space for my "commemorative" t-shirts of one sort or another purchased over many, many, many years.

Hell, I recommend they test the marketing waters by offering long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, fleece pullovers and parkas in the same style. It would get the fan base through more of the season with the same look.

*Will you stop pooping on my lawn since I agree with you, Kneutered? Oh, and just to p*i*s*s off many others, as a second generation Irish-American and an ND grad, I've never been a fan of the overly stylized, pugilistic Leprechaun. I may drink a bit, but I don't do fisticuffs.

i don't mind the color. it's a little different and will set the student section apart from all the fans who wear green or blue etc. sadly, i don't think they'll ever be able to duplicate what you see at nebraska with the sea of red and psu with the sea of white. too many color options exist for the throngs of ND fans that descend upon campus for games each year. just hope the team doesn't wear that color!

I was charged $5.95 for ground shipping. My total ended up being $22.57. Kind of strange that they're going to start charging more (if they are indeed going to do so).

Edit: Just saw that you're in Ireland. That would probably explain the shipping costs.

It's basically the same color as the roof inside the Basilica and at the top of the dome on the inside.

I wouldn't go all Faust on you and say this really is our official shade of blue, but those are two of my favorite things to look at on campus...just awesome.

Maybe it's because blue is my favorite color, but I don't really understand how someone can throw around "ugly" "horrendous" and terms like this with this year's Shirt.

NU, PSU and other schools that show a sea of one color make a concerted effort to spread the word through alumni groups, school PR, websites, etc. At ND it's been mostly a grassroots action. Willing ham for all his faults is the only one I recall promoting a sea of one color. It takes a concerted effort. Given the education of the ND alumni, they should be able to pull it off. But the Administration/Program have to beat the drum AND the Student Body has to join in and leave The Shirt in the dorms that day.

I'm of the opinion that it should always be green, just because I think the green shirts always look the best. And while the color isn't the traditional "ND blue", IMHO (and it seems I'm in the minority) it is a sweet color and I'd definitely wear it.

I love the shirt! Personally I think its fantastic. Unique, creative, great design and new. The color is something I would wear apart from ND, which I can't say about the '10 green.

Also, me and my buds were talking and were wondering if this color blue is preparing the way for the "jerseys that even Oregon hasn't touched on yet" that will be revealed late fall.
To me, that defo could be the case.
