Thread dedicated to all the nay sayers, those who chose to badmouth the coaches and other ND staff. Those who made beds wet and ruined bed sheets.

Let’s take some time to go back and find those posts and posters who doubted this ND staff and make them accountable for their posts.

Let’s check these receipts and see who is willing to take their medicine and eat their crow.

I have never said any negative thing ever, against anyone. Therefore, I come to mock, spit and chastise the individuals that doubted the greatness of Marcus and of Notre Dame. Shame, shame

I’ll say it, it’s possible Martin is not as good at tampering as Bowden.

How is that for a pretzel

I’m not outraged by anything. I think ND will land a comparable WR. But clearly they chose not to host visitors this weekend, guys commit after visits. Thus you’ve eliminated 3 possible days of commitments. That’s a fact.

Either:

A) Beat is in the dark, things are going on at a least serviceable pace. We just don’t really know plus didn’t make USC “resign” announcements

B) Freeman ceded control to Martin who has never done this and he’s getting worked/lowballing guys

C) Freeman to the Ravens

Definitely a failure if they don’t land Gilliam. It’ll be an overpay, just pay it.

Someone in the room gotta be like we can’t not have a DT.

He has the power to change it, you credit Cignetti right above. Freeman was at a wrestling tournament while other coaches nationally were working.

Is he hands on recruiting these portal guys or leaving it to the front office? Is he calling boosters and getting the money? Did he work with Pete and the proper parties the last few months to prepare? Everything you are putting at the feet of NDs FO, is Freeman doing any of it? Everything you are crediting Cignetti for, is Freeman doing any of it?

If you’re asking me to be more specific, it’s a reflection of your post.

My issue with laying everything at the feet of Martin is similar to laying everything at the feet of Ash. Freeman hired them, Freeman oversees the program. Head coaches are supposed to be psychopathic control freaks that have their hand in everything. If Freeman just hired Ash and then never checked in on the defense before the Miami game….what was he doing? If Freeman hired Martin and never checked in on the plans for the portal….what was he doing?

These are just as valid questions to ask, especially considering the knock of BK compared to the supposed strength of Freeman. He can’t only be a rah rah locker room guy.

Freeman frequently trips before leaping forward. Year 1 without Bowden. We thought the 2026 recruiting class was a sign that wouldn’t happen here. It looks like they was only partially true. He learns from mistakes too often.

Then match it. Double it.

You are literally going into a season GUARANTEED to do nothing in December/January without at least 1 starting caliber portal DT.

These are my reciepts. I’m comfortable with them. As one of them says:

“Freeman frequently trips before leaping forward….He learns from mistakes too often.”

If I were a player who came back, in part, to try and win a National Title I'd be pissed.

He did a good job with the recruiting class, but I really don't think you can leave him in charge of the portal. Martin might be better off just focusing on HS prospects.

Might need to hire someone next year to handle the negotiations with players who enter the portal and have Martin focus on HS prospects.

I suppose the good thing is they can learn from this. Heck, they'll have to next year with a lot of key starters/contributors they'll likely be losing. Carr, Faison, Craig, Traore, Sneed, Bowen, Moore, Gray, Shuler. And that's not even counting the possibility of Tae, 1-2 portal DT's, and 1-2 portal WR's. They might have to go the Indiana route with the first visit and huge "take it or leave it" offers.

ND has had some of the highest profile signings over the last few portal periods. And, they've even brought in kids from Marshall and FIU.

I refuse to believe that the ND staff forgot how to work the portal. Sure, there are always going to be surprises and misses.

What I do know is that our beat writers are fully clueless. Relax and trust in the staff. I have a feeling we walk out of this portal feeling pretty good.

What can be, unburdened by what has been

Ok so back on topic,… this has got to be the biggest gut punch six weeks in my history as a fan… lose a chance at a natty basically two straights years when everything seemed so poised the day of the conference title games. And yes, zero impact DTs means forget a natty next year,… the ‘revenge season’ is relegated to the regular season and we all know it

This post has to be the most soaking wet piss pants post.

I say a lot of crazy shit, I admitted to not really understanding the ins and outs of the portal but getting the vibe that things weren’t good from posts. Either way I’ll throw myself among anyone else because I am self aware enough to know I say things on the regular.

Ok I'll say it. But we missed out on Ibirogba, Trick, Townsend, and Marsh. There were sooo many guys we couldn't land. The staff was sooo unprepared and does not know what they're doing....Why is Burnham transferring??? Guys leaving left and right and we can't land ANYONE???WTH are we going to do??? Marcus is obviously sabotaging cause he's headed to the Giants, I mean Browns, uhhh I mean Steelers...

Sometimes you have to let things play out, just cause you need a date to the wedding doesn't mean you ask every person you see to go. Don't be desperate, be confident...this staff was confident.

Excellent job by the staff bringing in what has potential to be the most talented recruiting class we've had in years...and now the most talented transfer class we've ever had.
As coach Free says...delayed gratification!!! Go Irish!

I was coping that they had a plan the whole time. Didn't think it could turn out this well, feels like June all over again where they closed on every guy they really needed to.

The question will be whether they foresaw good guys entering after day 4 or if they just pivoted and threw large sums of money at the problem. Guessing we'll never know.

Yeah fully prepping myself for the "ND was the bridemaid" for all of these guys. "Player X used ND to get a better offer from his first choice."

Tale as old as time.

Never felt so good to be so wrong.

Otherwise kind of proud of myself for not jumping off a bridge and waiting for the dust to settle after what seemed like a crazy first week of swings and misses.

Ngl, hoping for Gray still.
