The number was 340 earlier today when the story broke. I believe this dealer had ~500 Gurley items.

FSU fans keep saying that Winston signs everything for the fans and its totally logical for this one dealer to have so many autographed items.....do fans sell their player signatures to dealers? I feel like if I had something signed by an ND guy, I would keep it? Right?

I think he'll be suspended. They already proved they weren't afraid to suspend him earlier this year for the Clemson game. I think the media backlash will just be too strong (scrong) these next couple days.

Does anyone not want Winston gone? I want to know how good we really are and I don't want any excuses.

I personally would prefer we beat them with him playing. On the other hand, it is ridiculous he is allowed to still even be enrolled in school let alone not incarcerated so...

I really hope we get enough Irish fans to crash Game Day and boo the f*ck out of Jimbo Fisher when he goes on set. Or at least get a "bull shit" cheer going in the background loud enough for the mics to pick up.

I have a feeling that Game Day may be most epic this week.

Um I think FSU may have no choice but to suspend him now...

I guess for me it's that if we get into the playoffs the worst possible thing that could happen would be to get embarrassed again. If we beat FSU with Winston, I'm not worried about that anymore. If we don't it remains a serious concern for me moving forward.

In my fantasy world, he plays, ND hands him his first and only college loss, then he gets suspended.

Yes. Winning should be all that matters, but unfortunately it isn't. Style points matter in college football. I think we can beat FSU with Winston and I kind of want him to play so we can make a bigger statement. It may matter to the playoff committee.

On the other hand, I will be really offended if Winston plays. FSU has to have some respect for the integrity of college football and suspend this guy.

Yep and if I had the choice between getting embarrassed in the playoffs and winning a fiesta bowl matchup I'd much rather take the latter. It can't be overstated how much Notre Dames inability to win big bowl games has hurt their national perception. You guys want to get respect from southern kids? As a 24 year old southern kid: win a major bowl.

Literally more than twice as many. It's beyond comical that FSU is not stepping in to suspend him.

The paucity of f*cks that anyone at FSU appears to give about what the rest of the college football-loving world thinks of them is pretty astounding. But at this point, they've chosen this horse and I'll bet they ride it until someone else makes them stop.
Who's that gonna be, the NCAA?

Serious question, what other school(s) do you think would allow this pattern of behaviors with virtually no response?

The schools in the movies The Program and Blue Chips.

Heck SMU paid guys for the death penalty but didn't have that kind of behavior

Here is how it works...

JW is known to sign everything that's given to him. He would spend hours signing jerseys, pics, etc for every kid coming up to him when he comes home. These "kids" get their JW jersey, go to JW, and he signs it. The kids take the jersey back to the person who gave it to them, get their $20, gives the jersey up, and then leaves. Happens like that all the time.

As far as suspending him, FSU is gonna have to override Jimbo. The NCAA could recommend to the school that they need to sit him, but that is ultimately the schools decision to make and not the NCAA's decision. And right now... Jimbo has no plans to sit him.

Right.
And, let's be honest, Winston sat for the Clemson game because he made a sexually demeaning comment while having been under a cloud of a sexual assault investigation. All this in a sport dealing with some heavy gender issues already these days. That's serious stuff that a school must appear to take seriously.

Signing autographs may be against the rules. But no one really really cares. FSU can wear the black hat here and some people will even embrace them for it.

It's the investigation into the sexual assault charge - and the systemic looking-the-other-way on criminal activity generally - that FSU football ought to worry about. But that won't be resolved before Saturday.

That is absolute horseshit. That's not how you get 1000 items with high quality authenticated signatures on the same site. It's just not. That's how you get 50 items on the same site. This is the same people who paid Gurley to do a bulk signing and then you have twice as many items for Winston. That doesn't happen from some mythical kid parade, it happens from paying him to do a bulk signing like Gurley.

This "Jameis is a good guy who spends hours giving his signature away" thing is just a roundabout way of saying "prove I got paid, everything is circumstantial so I'll just make up whatever crackpot excuse comes to mind."

First, I am not a JW apologist. He should have been suspended last year and never allowed to play another down. Also, I am sure there are plenty of things JW signed for money. I don't dispute that either. But I have witnessed exactly what I posted as well. The kid parade is real... whether you want to believe it or not.

FSU needs to do the right thing and not let him play ever again. But right now, it appears they are holding out on doing that. If the NCAA recommends it and FSU still doesn't sit him, then I say let the hammer fall as hard as it can on them.

How long does that hammer take, though? At least until the end of the season. At which point they've made the playoff and maybe more (unless of course we beat them this week), Winston's gone to the NFL, and who knows if Fisher's even still there to clean up the mess he enabled. They'll play the odds.

I don't doubt the kid parade is real...but 900 kids long?

No... not a one time. But I have witnessed him sign a large number of jerseys just as I posted. Multiply that by a lot of outings, and the number can get fairly high.

I would love to see the NCAA and/or schools make it a violation to sign anything while a player is eligible. The amount of signed items for college athletes is staggering and affects every school to a degree. Or, at least make it to where they have to sign items to the actual person requesting it. Gotta think JW got money from somewhere to sign that many items. Proving it may be a whole other thing... and that's what makes it hard to enforce.

That appears to be what they are doing. The current investigation will not be over quickly. And that is exactly what FSU is banking on IMO.

As far as autograph issues, if there is no proof of money changing hands, I would expect FSU to keep on playing him.

Just want to clear up my OP on this.

Do I think JW signed for money? Without a doubt.

Do I think JW got away with sexual assault? Maybe. I don't know all the facts in the case, but it appears there was at least some serious issues with the school and the Tallahassee police in their investigation.

Do I think JW will play Saturday? Without a doubt.

Do I wish FSU would step in and suspend him? Without a doubt.

Just don't want some out here thinking I an defending this clown. I am not. He is a sorry example for college athletics and an even sorrier example for young kids everywhere.

Now... beat that Seminole as* on Saturday so we can bask in the glory of how college football should be... even if it is only for one day.

Go Irish.

Actually it's biblical.

Similar to Lot, 10 honest people couldn't be found on campus to form a committee. Hell, they already had to go to the outside booster pool to find someone to hold his student conduct hearing.
