No. It's actually the opposite. A frightening degree of control by the institution. The institution of Florida State's football program would appear to more or less tell the Police Department of a good-sized city what's what. Without even having to tell them, b/c they already know (scariest part of that story was the ties between the PD brass and the boosters club).
Like Veritate said, will be interesting to see how this plays out. But you almost need somebody outside of FSU/Tallahassee to step in here and investigate. No idea who that might be. (The State Police? The governor?)
This is what the D.O.J. is supposed to help with in investigating; not local law enforcement issues like the Mike Brown case in Ferguson, MO where the police haven't even finished their investigation yet or only looking into politically partisan/politically favorable cases that furthers a political agenda/narrative....
If these reports are even somewhat true, it is thoroughly embarrassing and repulsive....it would show a true need for a complete overhaul from Law Enforcement to University Leadership alllllllll the way down to the FSU football team....There are some horrendous allegations of violations of justice and rights....This is a bigger issue than Jameis Winston and Jimbo Fisher; this is a criminal corruption case involving a big money university and a police dept that does things differently as it relates to that university's current cash cows (i.e. athletes) in how they protect and amend charges/police reports and sweep under the rug serious crimes...How is that any different than the mob???
I'm a realist; not a hater of Winston and FSU...as it relates to his rape case; criminally the case is flawed...the accuser backtracked on statements, changed stories, and has character issues....and yes, she helped her accuser avoid charges by the stupid actions SHE did....Winston did what anyone in the position of losing their life behind bars would have done, and I don't begrudge him blaming the accuser, lying about incidents, and playing dumb on other incidents....it is the burden of the police/prosecutor to show a crime was committed...they failed....but the bigger issue, is were they even truly trying? Were they in collusion with the university? Had the evidence been tainted by police mishandling of things? What role did the university play? And this is just one case, with so many moving parts, and it is hard enough to get a conviction for rape or any sexual misconduct....the reports coming out, the editorials and investigative journalism pieces coming out....they show a very scary picture of just how "in-control" the University really is, and has been, FOR YEARS....this a systemic problem; not a Jameis Winston problem...he is just the continual migraine that they couldn't hide or protect or cover-up anymore before leaks started coming out...
At this point, I don't expect FSU to do the right thing, like suspend JW while this plays out and gets investigated fully, honestly, and ethically.....Only Universities with some set of values puts their honor ahead of wins on the field....and quite honestly, I want him to play against ND, just so our kids can show this school how to whip someone's @$$, shut a punk kids mouth, and show a university how to do it right; winning even while a few of their stud players are suspended/investigated for lacking honor (regardless of how frustrating that process is)....I hope FSU goes down in its entirety; not JW or Jimbo Fisher; they're just pawns and expendable pieces in a system and culture that is corrupt beyond words....Maybe Eric Holder can actually do his job and investigate something that doesn't further an agenda for once and get back to the rule of law and standards....
Something stinks down at FSU, and it isn't the hot crab legs hidden under Winston's bed....
