Smartphone. I have an S6 now. Not sure I want to pay what the S8 will cost. Anyone have any experiences, positive or negative, woth other phones? No Apple here either.
I really really really love my Note. I'm not sure if you can still find Note 5s after the Note 7 disaster (they skipped Note 6 to bring the Note in line with the S). I'm still using my Note 4 and it still runs like a beast. I've had to replace the battery once but I'd still take this phone over my wife's S7. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't fit in the Gear VR headset. I use the stylus all the time.

"no apple".

I'm over here on my Apple with all my shit working all of the time while simultaneously connecting to eachother. Half the time I go to do something and it's already done.

Samsung is for poors.

I've got my Samsung S6, and it's grown on me a bit since I had some initial problems with it (had to have it replaced twice for service issues). I like the options for customizing a lot.

But I still am dying to get back on team Apple when they drop the anniversary iPhone. Thing's gonna be dope.

Security systems.

Anyone have any experience in them. I'm debating on a stand alone system that can be monitored externally on an app thru WiFi. Maybe 4 cameras with a digital recording system included.

We have one like this. Can monitor the house on our phones... even talk through the speakers. The system itself is pretty cool, can't be cut and such, police/responders can monitor the entire system once the alarm goes off until we put in our code, so if we put in a false code the system will appear to be 'off' with responders listening in.

Favorite laptop? tablet? phone?

Favorite tablet is a tie between an iPad Pro and a Fire HD.

The iPad Pro battery life and screen size is ridiculous, but the Fire HD is insane bang for your buck.

I lean Fire HD because of how good the quality:price ratio is.

Favorite laptop is any MacBook. This is where it pays to spend the extra $$$, IMO. Every other laptop I have experience with turns into a clunky, slow piece of junk pretty quickly.

Others could probably refute me with good non-Apple recommendations on laptops, of course, particularly because of the price tag on a new MacBook. I just haven't had any good experiences with laptops that are older than a year, except for my MacBook. I have a MacBook from 2008 that still works like a charm. Just keep it clean and keep the OS updated, and there's nothing to fear except for short battery life.

I've had two decent laptops at work in the same time frame, and they simply didn't hold up nearly the same, particularly in terms of the display and operating speed. My 2008 MacBook is still faster on my home wifi than my 2015 Dell (Inspiron?) laptop was, and had nearly the same display quality. The extra cash for that many years of quality functionality would be worth it to me.

Favorite phone is any iPhone. I have an Android now, and it just isn't as reliable.

I like Apple products because you actually get the quality/durability/functionality that you're promised for as long as you take care of the product. Can't say the same for other brands in my personal experience, whether it's a phone or a computer. So while the prices often seem ridiculous on the surface for Apple, and there isn't as much customization, my experiences tell me that the price tag is worth the vast difference in dependability long-term.

Tablets are a different story, where there is enough quality competition that the price point becomes the deciding factor.

Internet Privacy

Internet Privacy

Protesters raise more than $200,000 to buy Congress’s browsing histories

After Congress voted Tuesday to dismantle landmark privacy protections for Internet users, pockets of the Web erupted in a mixture of fury and fear.

Among other changes, this legislation would make it easier, and legal, for Internet service providers (ISPs) to both gather and sell personal information including Web browsing history. In other words, AT&T could, in theory, sell to the highest bidder a list of the websites you’ve visited and the frequency with which you visited them.

Many Internet users aren’t keen on the idea of companies selling their browsing data, so several independently came up with the same plan: They began crowdfunding campaigns to purchase the Web histories of the members who voted to wipe away those protections.

Internet histories might make Congressional investigations easier.

Unless you have easy access though the walls to run cable, go wireless. The drawback to the wireless is you'll need power close by to plug in the camera.

I can't believe they were stupid enough to do this. ISP's must have promised some serious campaign donations to get this passed.

I also assume that Congress has somehow protected themselves (or members of government in general) from the rules that will apply to the general population.

That thing looks terrible.

They could put whatever pricetag on a Samsung they wanted and it still would be for the poors.

I do not plan on getting one, but I gotta ask, what about it looks so terrible or even much different than any of the other rectangular phone/comms system/computer out there?

Cracked the screen on my Galaxy S6 last night. Will be returning to team iPhone this evening, and it will feel like a weight lifted off of my shoulders after two years with Android.

I was planning on waiting until the iPhone X or whatever they reveal in September/October to make the switch back, but homie don't play a cracked screen.

Does anyone know a reputable site to buy past generations of flagship phones? My screen cracked on my Note 4 and I'd really like a new Note 4 or Note 5 to replace it.

Just got done setting up 4 Amazon Echos, smart plugs, and a new tablet for the moms. She's quite skilled talking to Alexa already lol. She never used the IPAD that I got her a few years ago (she uses her IPhone all the time though). Bought her the new Fire10 tablet and she likes it a lot better than the IPad.

I've got both a standard IPad and a mini, and I have to say the new Amazon tablet is pretty slick. I've got a lot of Amazon tech (echos, fire sticks/tv, automation, Amazon Music) at my house too, so I may be moving to a Fire10 myself. You just can't beat the price point, and it's not near as locked down as Apple products. Loved the new screen size and the ability to add a memory card.

I have an iPhone, but I am not an Apple fan. Updates always seem to screw and/or change your settings. Then they keep pestering you to set up icloud or whatever service you opt not to use.

i love ipads because of the availability of accessories, but other than that, i'm starting to trend away.
