Oh wow the "monitor the landscape" guy thinks it's a complete disaster I'll be sure to hold this valuable opinion close to my heart.

They're not wrong. Although for football they'd probably only have to fly across the country once a year that's too much for a team to handle!
Wait a minute...

But in reality, it would be a pain in the ass for sports like basketball that play teams multiple times a year. You could be talking 2, maybe 3 trips across the country which would be a lot for programs not called Notre Dame.

Kind of excited for road trips to SMU ngl. Think they are going to zoom by TCU within a decade considering the $$ they can throw at players, facilities, and coaches.

SMU is foregoing conference revenue completely for 7 years, STA and Cal are getting a reduced rate.

Can't understand SMU agreeing to that, except if they think pre-existing major conference membership will help when the whole thing gets blown up and we're left with the B1G and SEC super conference. Because that might happen before they get any ACC money.

They got deep pockets to cover the difference and like you said its an investment for a seat at the big boy table next go round.

I had heard on one of the national podcasts that a group of oil men were going to help fund the program for that seven years just to get them into a major conference.

From the peripheral of a college football fan the ‘big SMU oil money’ always struck me as odd,… you’d think it would have made a bigger impact all these years. Even after the Death Penalty debacle you’d have thought if it was so impactful and readily available it would have helped the rebuild and help SMU grow more than it has,… idk, maybe I’m articulating it poorly but yeah, it never quite added up in my mind.
