I keeed. I really don't feel strongly one way or the other with the Cards, but I do enjoy going to a game there. The outfield seats are always interesting.

Waino headed back to the DL. It's seriously time for Mo to move him to the bullpen. God knows Matheny won't. He could be a 2 inning guy to pitch the 6th and 7th when the order is up for the 3rd time. Oh man it makes too much sense!

And it would give Matheny another bullpen arm to under use this year, which he DESPERATELY needs.

Martinez - Wacha - Mikolas - Weaver - Flaherty/Reyes = pretty good pitching staff for 2018.

I don't even trust him in that role. Sad, but the dude is done..

Fowler can’t hit. Carpenter either.

Not sure what to do with those two. There are supposed to be horses but you can’t play them. And you don’t have enough bench to let them sit. Sucks

He definitely is, but I never thought this was the year to win the WS. Waino's contract runs through this year. Move him to the 'pen, let him keep his dignity, and thank him for his service at the end of the season.

Also, if Mo knew that we'd be playing the "Memphis Shuffle" with Brebbia, Sherriff, and Mayers why in the hell did we sign so many veteran relievers without options?

2 overdue comments:

1) Holland sucks

2) Jordan Hicks has 7 of the 8 fastest pitches this year but only has a 4.3 K/9 ratio. If he could had a change up or a curve that grades out as a 60, he could easily be the next Aroldis Chapman minus the gun charges.

Bonus Comment:

Matheny couldn't manage my fantasy baseball team

Man you really like to beat that drum....

I agree with you though. I wasn't happy last year when he was the "big splash" signing. He was always underwhelming before his season with the Cubs and didn't move the needle for the batting order. The Cards needed a bat and ended up with a guy who would hit .260 with 10 homers and 15 steals in a good year!

Mo and Girsh mailed it in last offseason (and this one). If that was their strategy, then just don't sign Fowler, save that money, and throw $600 million at Machado or Harper and see who signs. The team wouldn't have been any worse off last year or this year. And this year we have AAA outfielders knocking on the door. Ugh it pisses me off that he's holding down an OF spot and putting up shit numbers.

On Hicks, you'd think he could just dial it back a tad and give up a few MPH on his fastball while spotting it better and have more success....

I don't think he's developed a good enough offspeed pitch to take that chance.

I mean if he's still hitting high 98-100 but just hitting his spots you'd think his strikeouts would increase with or without secondary pitches... maybe I haven't watched him enough but it seems like he just can't spot it consistently.

That dude sucks at baseball. I don't know how the Sciosciapath keeps putting him in the lineup even in a platoon!

Don't get me started on that fat tub.... I'm so over him it's not funny. If someone off the bench comes in and has a great game, back on the bench the next day, if the same player comes in and goes 0-4 with multiple drive killing double play balls... right back in the lineup. Same with the staff, a pitcher is getting rocked, let them work through it. If a pitcher is dealing, let's pull him for some dude with a plus 5 ERA. At this point just the sight of him makes me angry.

The Cardinals finally fired this idiot manager. Who would have guessed that not being able to relate to players and dismissing analytics would be bad qualities to have?

This crap about Bud Norris hazing young players and tattling on guys to Matheny is some all time nonsense.

Dexter Fowler homered in his first at bat yesterday since Matheny's firing the day before. Talk about poetic.

Firing Matheny is only part of the equation. Mozeliak and DeWitt need to turn that mirror around and commit to a strategy.

I don't know if people realize how big of move this is for an organization like the St. Louis Cardinals. This franchise doesn't just go around hiring and firing people on whims or trying to real in the hot new name in coaching. They have had 4 different managers since 1980 (Herzog, Torre, La Russa, and Matheny).

Should have been done years ago. Great guy but the cardinal way has been rotting away with each year that passes under Matheny.

I wish him all the best but the beacon of the National League needs to be restored back to its winning heritage.

That's just it. It's not like they dissolved into continuous losing seasons or complete disaster 100 loss seasons. They had been middling and very inconsistent for three years straight now and this is a luxury that not many franchises have.

I agree a move needed to be made but the strength of the organization is still there even if the guy who was managing the team wasn't getting done.

I'm frankly more excited that Mabry was finally let go too. That was move way overdue IMO.

He's not a great guy. In addition to being incompetent, he's also an ass wipe of a person. He had some good regular seasons at first, and even during those regular seasons his lack of tactical knowledge and poor decision making was obvious. He's always been a jerk, and he was a guy that didn't trust young players or give them a chance.

He remained in place despite not being a great guy and despite his failures. The only reason they finally chose to get rid of him was because his relationship with Dexter Fowler (there isn't one) and his allowing Bud Norris to harass Jordan Hicks constantly wasn't tolerable to the front office while they were .500

I'm glad he's gone because he's a baseball dinosaur and a bad guy. Plain and simple. They should consider finding someone good this winter and not someone who once played for the Cardinals. If that box MUST be checked, they'll keep getting more of the same.

Thoughts? Feel like it's selling low on Weaver and Kelly, but still got to give it an A-.
