Based on the reports by ISD today (also a bit of my .02 on the reports):
- Sounds like Bilal has really stepped his game up and is really holding things down at Rover.
- MTA is going to be a beast. Hinish looks to be in MUCH better shape than he was last season. Ewell still a work in progress. Physically looks beastly, but his technique needs improvement. Overall, that interior looks to be insanely good and deep.
- Ade is going to play. He's gotta play. Gonna be hard though, because sounds like all the ends are doing extremely well. Jay is looking more consistent than last year and Daelin is really dominating in run defense. Still needs to be more assertive on the pass rush. Okwara's size isn't a hindrance to him at all it would seem. Easily ND's best pass rusher. Kareem, unlike Daelin, IS quite assertive in rushing the passer and solid run defender.
- Wimbush's accuracy appears to have improved in the short game, but not quite there yet. Book is more accurate, but is slow on getting rid of the ball.
- Aaron Banks. NEEDS to start. Preferably they line him up at RT and move Kraemer inside to LG next to Hainsey. Kraemer would likely benefit from the move, because he's struggling a bit to set the edge. Got blown by a few times by faster ends. But yeah, Banks is a monster. Able to handle speed and power with great effectiveness. Bars and Mustipher have really taken the mantle from McGlinchey and Nelson as leaders on offense and it seems like the transition has been near seamless. Bars looks vastly improved both physically and technically. We tend to forget, but he has a high ceiling, just needed to get his footing after being hurt and needed some time to learn his position (he was a tackle prior to starting at RG last year). Ruhland is doing more than holding his own. Lacks size, but makes up for it with tenacity, power and technical precision. This group may not have a Q-Nelson talent, but these guys are still really damn good.
- Safety is anyone's guess. It was Gilman and JGH starting, both looked decent out there. Heath has trimmed down and looks much faster. Coleman also got in there and was solid.
- Love had an up and down day, but it's Love so we know what we have with him. Watkins is vying to get his starting gig back. Had the best day of all the corners. Griffith is just game-ready. He made some freshmen mistakes, but he's got a future here.
- Boykin is establishing himself as the #1, if he hasn't already. It's anyone's guess who starts behind him. Claypool, Finke, Armstrong, Young and McKinley all had their moments, but none have established themselves as for-sure starters. A few too many drops though, Boykin included.
