Golson looked lightest on his feet. You can tell Kiel is still in the learning speed, where you are slower because of thought not because of ability.

I agree with you, but I don't think you can get that from the little bit of footage in that video.

When Tommy Rees is going through the footwork drill as fast or faster than you. I think it is safe to gather that.

Now all we have to do is find out how tall Chuck Martin is, because Everett is definitely taller than Chuck!

IMO, I think that is a bit of a stretch to make that statement with any certainty. I viewed that as more of a technique and form drill and not necessarily intended to be done with utmost speed. I think a statement like that would apply to Kiel more accurately under center running plays within the framework of a new offense he is learning. His technique and form is probably on par with all or maybe even a little better than some fo the other QBs on the roster, but obviously he doesn't know the offense nearly as well as the others at this point.

Or maybe... just maybe... Kiel has never done the drill before and this is Rees' third spring doing it.

I think you are over-analyzing things a bit here, dude.

Actually....you are proving my original point that he is slower due to thought and not just using his natural athletic ability. Thank you.

Listening...

I just think drawing any sort of conclusion from 30 seconds of video on a footwork drill is a little bit of a stretch.. he's still in learning speed? that might be true, but to say that based on that video is kind of absurd to me.. but that's just me (and a few others who posted before me)

KLM looked great, as usual.

Well I understand that, but ask yourself this: Is Tommy Rees a better athlete than Gunner? I say no chance in hell. Did Gunner look slower? I say obviously so. As Wooly pointed out Tommy has been doing these drills for three years, so he is able to go out and just do the drill with limited cognitive focus. Gunner who has been doing them for two weeks its most likely still focusing on the basics of the drill. Just my opinion though, not just from this clip either. You can see it in other clips of the qbs as well.

Grey hammer.....my calves were getting a bit tight thanks for the reminder.

The irony of that drill is that if any QB did that in the pocket, people would accuse him of having "happy feet".

The season can't get here soon enough.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but this has been the longest week ever. Thank the Lord they're back in practice today. I'm going to be in a sad state after the 21st. :p

I talked to fifth-year senior wide receiver John Goodman today and here was his take on the quarterback race:

"Coach [Kelly] is still working really hard with each one of them. One day one guy will start and another day another guy will start. When I say 'start' that's just when we do team periods or 7-on-7. Each one of them are doing really well. I think that Tommy [Rees] is doing the best out of all of them, but that's just my opinion. In the end it's going to be the guy that runs the offense the best and also has the best timing with receivers and running backs."

he's wrong...in the end it's going to be the guy that takes care of the football the best

Tweet:

NDatRivals: John Goodman sheds a sliver of light on the QB battle, says Tommy Rees has looked the best thus far.

...

Should I take that critique with a grain of salt as it came from the NCAA's 974th leading receiver (actually tied for 974) last year with 7 receptions?

I think taking care of the football falls in the "runs the offense" category. Being a receiver I will tell you I always thought he QB that threw to me the most was who was looking best!! So maybe Tommy Rees has a thing going with the Dwenger duo.

Regardless, I don't see a decision on the QB race until summer camp.

Wouldn't surprise me that Goodman thinks Tommy is doing the best. He is probably just staring John down the entire play and throwing to him in single double and triple coverage.

My precise thoughts!! Maybe all the other receivers are moving too fast and Goodman is the only one Tommy can pick up??? I kid I kid!

Perhaps Tommy has indeed improved? It's not out of the realm of possibility...is it?

at this point i think the only thing that TR can improve on is his decision making and ball security...imo he's tapped his potential physically
