Site Suggestions

HoosierIrish brought this up in the now-lunch-log-out-something thread, and it's a good idea.

Since some people don't have time (especially during the week) to sift through several pages of jokes, arguments, and other banter to find the actual news relating on to the thread they clicked on, how about starting a 'News Bulletin' thread, where a certain number of posters can post news, nothing else.

I'll volunteer to be one of the posters charged with keeping it accurate and current.

Other suggestions - Can we upgrade the banners? We don't have any pictures of any players with the new uniforms, and we might not even have pics of current players. When newcomers visit this site as opposed to, say, Domer Domain, they might turn away because this one looks so old, whereas they have a sweet pic of Ishaq and his dreads in the new, shiny unis.

I'm an IE-er for life, just trying to stay current. Go Irish and fuck Michigan in their goat ass!

While I was creeping over at DD to see if ol' Chiro had anything new from his "source", I noticed they have a thread titled "Tweets Only".

As Whiskey has mentioned, the best way to get ND news updates is by following a number of twitter accounts.

As I am assuming a large portion of this community doesn't have twitter. This "news only" thread could be just that. Bringing tweets to the board.

I'd like to suggest that we not worry about catering to people who would choose where to hang out and talk ND football based on what banners they have up. Are those really the caliber of people that we want to attract? Or do we want to bring in people who are more interested in substance than style?

Cause our substance is so much better, lol. There's good posters and discussions on both sites. In fact a lot of IE members go to DD as well. Just offering a suggestion. First impressions matter, and even the long time posters like myself think we could change some things. I think the mindset 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' doesn't have a place in this era. Shake and bake!

We shouldn't abandon our tradition here at IE. Just because the university wants to put carpet on the field doesn't mean we need new banners.

In the interest of clarity: I never made, nor attempted to make, any comparison between the substance here, and the substance at any other website. I did suggest that those who would choose their source of information and discussion about Notre Dame football. based on the more "hip" look of one over the other, probably are the type of people who prefer style over substance. Personally, I would prefer to discuss ND football with those who prefer substance.

For lunch on my break i went to Mcdonalds. I had one of the new jalapeno mcdoubles it was delicious. They have a new white cheese on that burger that seems to be of a better quality. I also had a medium fry and a large ice tea (On my way out I filled the tea up with sprite instead, because fuck the man.)

.......For real though i would really like it if on the home page next to the thread title there was a box that had the number of pages so i could just jump right to the last page.

I like the thought of the OP but there are some practicalities to consider. The "twitter" thread on DD is excellent so I go read it there. I know it takes a lot of work to keep up and I bet will fizzle out at some point unless another poster steps in. It's hard to put that much time into a thread like that continuously and it's been going over a year I believe.

While it can be annoying to read thru pages of a hot thread, I've learned that maybe I don't need to know every little nuance that may have occurred on the topic. My point is this being a free site mostly kept up by volunteers, I'm pretty satisfied what I get. Have been for 6 years now and that doesn't include my lurk year.

In all seriousness, I agree with this. Instead of having to click the thread then hit last page, maybe a link next to the thread title that just takes you to the last page.

I'm going to start a 'news' thread. Thinking of names now. Irish Bulletin? Domer Digest? Shamrock Sentinel?

I know people will want to comment and try to derail it, but hopefully people will respect it and the mods will help keep it clean.

Let's get a couple of name ideas then I'll start it.

Anytime there is "news" important enough to give a shit about on an ND board it usually gets it's own thread.

You trying to be Dan Rather or something?

I don't know who that is. Not trying to be anyone, just trying to help out where I've seen a number of requests over the past few months.

Depending on the topic, you're right, there likely will be a thread about it. This news thread will simply have the facts on new developments. It will not have dialogue, questions, discussion, or opinions.

I'll try to keep up and link it to the thread when applicable.

I'm not sure how that is going to work. You post "news" then expect people to go to the appropriate thread for dialogue?

Lots of people hop on here for 5 minutes and/or don't post.

Not sure where I'm losing you. I'm simply providing a central thread for the hundreds of members that come here on a daily basis for 5 minutes a day just to see if there's any factual developments. Not everyone wants to engage in our non-sense everyday.

They don't want to investigate thread(s) to find out what's going on. It's BAU for everyone who spends hours on here a day, but making it more user-friendly for the people who don't have the time to.

Hey, I know how I am, but I see both sides. It's BAU for me, and I'll be crushing threads like pussies. But I see where people are coming from when they get frustrated trying to find real developments when sifting through our BS.

How many times does a thread get bumped 'so what's the latest'.

5 minutes of hop, guess it's right time/right place kind of thing.

No, I'm not lost...get it completely. You, others, want a central location for updates, not bull shit. I feel this "scandal" and lack of information could be the driver here.

It's all good man, have at it. Not getting derailed may be a challenge, sounds like one you're up to.

Maybe a bottom ticker is what you are suggesting? News as it comes in.

If you look under the banner, on the front page, it says, " Irish Envy | Notre Dame Football Discussion", not "Irish Envy | Notre Dame Football News". Maybe people should stop looking for vegetables in the butcher aisle?

I like that I get some news here before it hits the media outlets, but I don't rely on a chat site for my news... and neither should you.

Our banners still have brown helmets. A ticker is way in the future, lol.

You're right about not having it derailed. It'll only work if the mods support it and/or restrict access to themselves. I'm saying I'll do it cause 50% of the time, I have IE up while I'm at work. But if the mods want to do it/restrict access to it, that's best.

I'm not changing the mission of the site. Just making ONE thread that is 'quick hits' and void of pages of discussion.

So if someone wants to know if Tillery changed his visit plans, they don't have to read 3 pages of posts about what he wore to bed last night to find out about it.
