cant ever see ND hiring a guy who left his wife and kids for a staff member at the university he worked for though

This would be the most shocking thing that happened this year. Over the Cubs winning a World Series, Cleveland getting a championship, and Trump winning the presidency.

Fleck is not the first divorced head coach in an incredibly time-demanding job. He is among the most candid.
“My wife hated my profession,” he said. “She didn’t marry into it. Hated it.”
Fleck does not cast blame. In fact, the split was an unfortunate result following a tragedy. The couple lost their second child -- a son, Colton -- shortly after he was born because of a heart condition. Stress built. Emotional crevices widened.

no doubt he had an affair but that has to do something to you! and maybe he learned from it..

A writer who covers Oregon is leaning towards Oregon hiring Greg Schiano.

While Oregon was losing to Oregon St in the Civil War, Uncle Phil was in Columbus with Greg Schiano at his side as Phil gave a victory speech to the employees at his Columbus office.

That's serious smoke.

The one thing I will admit, Fleck has the energy of a Sonny Vaccaro / Jim Valvano type. Guys who have meant a lot to Phil. Phil knows the importance of having the voice of a sport. Nike could spin Fleck's unique vocabulary into endless promotional campaigns.

I would be jealous of them either way. Bill King thinks Schiano is the mastermind of Ohio State's defense. And Fleck's energy would lead to great recruiting and energy around the program, like Penn State has right now with Franklin. Then with the right coordinators for the x's and o's he could get us back into the picture.

This year's defense? Maybe. But he wasn't there for the title run. This was his first year as Co-DC.

So with Fred Flinstone without a job at Oregon, does Kelly look there for DC? wasnt there some speculation about him before ND hired BVG?

So BK has been mentioned on here for the LSU job, the Oregon job, an NFL HC job, and probably a few more I missed seeing. Either I am missing something with his coaching ability or there are others that just hold him in high regard. Didn't he just go 4-8?

You're missing something. He's an extremely successful coach.

One season does not define a coach.

Exactly. I believe the flight tracker has already been debunked on Twitter.

What better job is out there that we would consider a step up & they'd actually be willing to invest in a 4-8 team with consistent off-the-field issues & questionable credibility when it comes to job hopping?

Why would he step down to take a "lesser" job? Yeah the spotlight, expectations, etc...but it's 2016, expectations are high everywhere. He looks like a front runner if he bails out after a losing season despite ND always supporting him publicly. His reputation would be worse than it is now.

Houston job is going to be interesting. They have a top recruit QB in Kyle Allen next year that the right coach could turn into a stud. They also have the best DT in the country IMHO with Oliver. A campus in the hot recruiting spot doesn't hurt.

Briles, Sumlin, and Herman made an opportunity out of it. I think someone will smell opportunity and jump, even if they have no interest from the somewhat big 12.

My choice: Lane Kiffin

Depends on one's definition of successful I guess. Do I think BK has been successful enough at ND to be given the chance to right the ship? Without a doubt. But no way would I be calling him to fill a coaching vacancy at another perennial top 10-15 school.

Wonder what guys like Meyer, Saban, Shaw, Peterson, Harbaugh, Fisher, Swinney think of Kelly?

I would think they are quick to defend their own. Behind closed doors I doubt Kelly strikes fear in their hearts.

And that's why you're not an athletic director at a major d1 program.

My definition of successful? Look up his track record bro. If you can call him anything but a successful coach, then you're lying to yourself.

Successful relative to what? He has been successful at ND relative to DWW. Not relative to our historical standard. And not relative to the programs that are elite today, i.e. Bama and OSU. For a coach like Saban or Meyer 8-5 is the floor; for Kelly, 8-5 is the norm and we've just hit the floor.

He is a good coach, but he is not good enough for ND.

Ok well, that was not the argument ndgradstudent. The argument was why are other programs seemingly interested in bk.

It's because he's an extremely successful coach.

In the eyes of 50% of P5 programs(?) Maybe? Sound right?

Have no clue.

I just came up with 39 of 65 would think he's a successful coach. (not extremely successful)

I threw Oregon in there for good Karma to raise it to 40. That's 61.5%.

Unfortunately, ND's not one of them.

Sounds incredibly scientific, and I'm sure very accurate.
