There's also Kerry Coombs, who would be an absolute ace recruiter in the tri-state area. His on-the-field product would depend on his coordinator hires, though. Perhaps he's learned enough from Urban to make it happen.

Many think that if he really wants the job, he could get it, and would be a true lifer. But a lot of the boosters are uneasy about hiring him for his lack of experience as a coordinator.

Guess Rhule will not be at ND in 2018 but on the bright side BK is now less likely to collapse week one against Temple.

Yeah, that hire is as much about his personality as it is his reputation after building Temple.

they could potentially be putrid for 3 years or so before they get better. Last season's and this season's dismal recruiting results will be evident down the line.

That means if things hold up, I would guess Fleck to ND at the end of next year, unless an unforeseen shoe drops in the NFL forcing a reshuffle in CFB.

EDIT: I would imagine his buzz will be stronger next year, assuming he pulls an upset or two and/or is ultra competitive in his big games. Very similar to Herman in 2016 in the buzz category.

WMU plays USC in LA 2nd game of the season next year. Would be interesting to see how his Bronco's do there if he's still at the helm

Assuming he stays he has three notable shots.....Wisky, USC and MSU. If he is competitive in all three and pulls one of those out, especially the Wisky game, he will be next year's Herman.

I am excited to watch WMU take on Wisconsin, USC, and MSU assuming Fleck is still around. It does setup well for next season to be an audition for the ND job like we saw with Texas this season.

I think it'd be smart of Rhule to have a short contract with a smaller buyout because that Baylor job has officially turned ugly. Gutsy of him to grab it. They have literally one commitment right now. They death penaltied themselves.

I was just going to say that.. Everyone said he was gone this year after 4-8 but nope he is here.. I wouldn't assume a 8 or 9 win season gets him fired... If I had to bet my house, I would bet it with Kelly being the coach when they play MI in 2018...

I am curious to know why Fleck isn't really being considered for these other schools. He seems like the hot name, but I haven't heard anything about him interviewing... Is he content with staying at WM or is other schools aren't as impressed with him and his resume as people on this site are

It's kind of a weak year for job seekers once Texas and LSU made their moves. The only question is why not Oregon? And if it's true that he prefers to stay in the Midwest then what's one more year?

Cincy, or Temple if you believe that is a better job than WM

Some people have been hearing that Cincy hasn't even reached out to him.

Either that means they have their guy lined up and are making things official, or else they got word that Fleck wouldn't be interested.

I guess my fear is he has 3 years HC experience.. If he is holding out for something better like a potential ND or even MSU job... What happens if Western takes a step back and goes 7-5 next year. The shine is off and will he still be the Hot name...

only if the money is there, and right now the money is at ND

His agent has been looking for the next gig for years, whether it was late Dec/Early Jan of 2013 or this past year.

There were far too many reports throughout this year that had Kelly looking for there not to have some truth to it. If it wasn't for his debacle this year, I personally think he would be gone on his own accord. At this point I don't think its money, its ego and personality.

I wonder if some of these programs are turned off by his personality. I wonder if AD's and such at bigger programs could handle all the row the boat stuff and what not. I'm all for it, and I think the kids eat it up. But what about the suits?

1 - This is his fourth season, not third.

2 - His name has received a great deal of attention prior to this year. If you didn't notice, WMU has won 8 games or more the past 3 years, something the school has never done. He won the first conf title for WMU since 1988 and won the first division title since 2000. Bill Cubit had 2 winning seasons in his last 6 years and Fleck turned them around in year 2. While young, he has good experience being on staff for coaches like Tressel, Jerry Kill & Greg Schiano and obviously coached in the NFL.

Here is an article from Feb 2015 that was featured in SI. It has some good stuff in there, including mentioning his recruiting success. That success is why I don't foresee a collapse. He may lose some games next year, just like Herman did this year. But like Herman, I don't think it will matter in the end.

Nice to let the fans/players/recruits/school know you are ready to book it at any moment.
