Grades:
Defense:
DL: A (Especially for the Hayes brothers. The middle wasn't perfect, but they held up nicely. Both the Hayes' made tons of plays and kept this game from getting out of hand.)
LB: A (Morgan, Coney and Tranquill were all over the place. Very few misses and they hung in there, despite not getting any breathers.)
S: B (They let a few guys behind, but nothing major. Tackling was pretty good too. Weren't tested that much. The one passing TD they gave up, can't do anything about that. Overall, Watkins stands out. Just a BEASTLY corner.)
Special Teams:
Yoon: A (We were worried, but we can put those to rest. 4/4 and pretty much gave us all our offense tonight. Some quality kicks too.)
Punt Coverage: A (Very solid work and great open field tackling. I see you Flexter.)
Kick Coverage: C+ (Not so good. Lucked out with the holding call on the first kickoff. They got better as the game went on though.)
Kick Return: B- (Meh. It was a'ight. Some bad ones early, but Sanders nearly ripped one for six. Still a good return though)
Punt Return: B- (Nothing but fair catches the eye can see. Whatever. Didn't muff any of them. Finke has balls of steel though.)
Offense....Ugh, the offense....
I'll make this easier on me, because they all earned the same grade. F. QB gets an F, RB gets an F, OL gets an F, TE gets and F, WR gets and F. I know Georgia has a very stout defense, but ND couldn't do ANYTHING. They couldn't run it inside, outside, screen pass, bubble screen, deep shot. Nada. So much for McGlinchey being a first rounder. He sucked big time today. I know, they all sucked, but McGlinchey is a 5th year captain who's projected to be the 1st OL taken in the draft. He played like a true freshman who hadn't an effin' what he was doing. Wimbush was awful, but I can hardly blame him. NOBODY was giving him help. They were playing in a box all game. Receivers are bad. Other than EQ, they can't get open. They're getting jammed, covered, dropping balls left and right. I vouched for Josh, saying this was his shot to steal the spotlight from Chubb and Michel. He was Mr. Invisible tonight.
In conclusion. Terrible blocking, terrible passing, terrible catching, terrible running, terrible playcalling. They're getting to the edge, so let's run these slow developing run plays that have NEVER WORKED. I'm just tired of this.
If our defense sucked, our offense was great. Now our defense is great but our offense sucks. Can we just be on the same effin' page?
