Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Nicco suspended for the first half due to his BS targeting call against USC in the season finale? If you get ejected in the second half of the last game of the season, and you still have eligibility you are automatically suspended for the first half of the season opener.

Total shyt.

Honestly, I don't think the punishment is wrong whatsoever. He spears people all of the time and plays downright reckless. He shouldn't just get nothing for a penalty that gets other players a first half of the next game penalty.

As I've said before about Nicco. I think he plays the game in a very disrespectful way. One big hit a game doesn't make up for a kid headhunting at all times. I'm glad he sat, one less half of him possibly injuring someone for no reason whatsoever.

God I hope the crowd is good for this one. I know there's going to be a lot of UGA fans, but I'm looking for some intensity from our crowd. If we bring it like we did against UM in 2015, I think we'll show well.

I work with a lot of ND grads and I would say roughly half of the office has already sold their tickets to UGA fans. It's appalling, imo.

Hopefully I just work with a bunch of Benedict Arnolds and the rest of the ND ticket holders have some semblance of pride.

I can't view youtube videos at work, but I assume it's Nicco's targeting call against USC. I remember watching the game with 3 SUPER FANS of PSU. All three thought it was a bad call. In slow mo, which the refs are able to use when watching a replay, he hits head to head. But watching the play full speed, I have a hard time thinking he was targeting.

Which leads to my other gripe about targeting calls. Many times refs have slow mo at their disposal, and rightfully use it. However, slow mo skews the data IMO. Sure the play may result in head to head contact, in fact, the defender may even lower his head. But was he targeting? More often than not I believe the guy is just trying to make a big hit. Therefore, he isn't actually trying to target (Hit helmet to helmet). Therefore, there should be some kind of call there that results in the call of a personal foul, but not targeting because he wasn't aiming for the head.

The issue is not that there was a helmet to helmet hit. There unquestionably was. The issue was that in no way was the running back a defenseless player. He was a running back hitting a hole that was being filled by a safety. The safety cleaned his clock. It was a good football play. Good football plays sometimes end with people getting lit up.

Didn't the back lower his pad level/head right before impact too? Again, that goes back to my complaint that slow motion replay makes plays look dirtier.

You're discounting all the old dudes who frequent ND Nation dot com selling their tickets to UGA fans, just for the sake of having one more thing to bitch about and/or in order to make a "statement" about their displeasure with the program.

50% of the best seats are going to be the UGA fans with money to spend.

Exactly. AND sometimes it is the safety on the receiving end of helmet to helmet contact in trying to stop a 220lb RB with a full head of steam. This hit was clearly incidental and definitely not targeting.

I guess we'll see come Saturday night but if the general consensus is true, it'll be pretty upsetting.

I am fully expecting 60-40 ND to UGA fans at best. They are coming out in force for this one.

I think the punishment carrying over to the next season is wrong. That's one of my biggest issues with the targeting call.

Can I ask why exactly? I guess I can't distinguish why the timing of the game on the schedule would make the punishment different for the penalty.

"good football plays" do not end with a player getting lit up with helmet to helmet contact. Nicco busted into that hole fully loaded with his usual spearing style of play. It was reckless and a penalty to the letter of the law, which I posted below bolded with Nicco's issue on that play.

"No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI)

Note 1: "Targeting" means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to:
Launch—a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
• A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet"

If you watch the play, I don't see how it is defensible. That is even with not adding the fact that this is Nicco's MO. There are dozens of example on tape of him playing this way. I'm assuming that the refs weren't using his past history in the decision, but if I was a ST coach for an opponent, I would definitely see this in film and let the ref know pregame to watch out for it.

Sadly, I think basically everyone cashed out. It's very disappointing to me... I know people who put in for this game just to sell them. One of my friends is a UGA fan and ticket broker and is going to this game... said the demand was entirely one-sided towards UGA fans. He expects at least 40% UGA fans at this game.

If I remember correctly, when Tuitt was ejected for targeting, replays showed him lower than the back and right before contact, the back lowered himself to the same level creating the helmet to helmet contact. Hard for defenders to counter that at the last moment.

This is kinda reminding me of Texas last year isn't it? Their OL doesn't appear to be anything special, if not, their weakness. QB is very green. RB' were good.

Does it? or am i off?

I'm all jacked up on Irish Kool-Ade, and after thinking about how crazy it is to expect a true freshman to carry the team on the road when he's just found out he's starting, I think the Irish can win.

I regret my bet with greyhammer, but I will follow through with it if Georgia wins by 13 or less.

Go Irish. Fvck Michigan.

They need to force all bulldog fans to enter through one skinny entrance that will create gridlock keeping most of their fans out of the stadium for the first half.

Man that's pathetic. I will feel terrible for the ND players if that is the case. It's supposed to be a big night game with an electric atmosphere and they are going to be audibly booed coming out of their own tunnel. All because people need to make $100 on a ticket. Grow up. It's a joke. I wish there was a way to revoke tickets from people that do this.
