This thread has to be the most satisfying read for a Notre Dame opponent ever... I'm sure the UGA version of IE is loving this shit... lol

I checked SEC Rant yesterday, but didn't see anyone spying at that time. They sent a troll over here in disguise for the Georgia game last time, but they were pretty easy to sniff out. Dude was dumb as a box of rocks.

Now I'm not saying people doubting us having a shot are wrong, but I'm just curious - when was the last time our fanbase seemed to have accepted a loss this resoundingly when we were ranked in the top 10 ourselves?

OU 2012? I feel like the media thought we had no shot, but we were pretty confident in that group.

FSU 2014? I remember the Noles looking shaky so I think there was some faith.

Clemson last year? I think most of us thought we could at least stay with them.

So just curious if anyone can think of another example where we were highly ranked, but our fans all seemed to expect a non-competitive game.

Whelp, after listening to the Irish Illustrated podcast I have 0% confidence now.
Probably won’t even watch the game.

At least they’re being honest. Gotta think they’re being positive in regards to predictions b/c the score will likely be worse than what they predicted.

I think they made good points in regards to this game likely boils down to one simple statistic:

Since 2016, UGA has signed 18 five-stars. We can argue w/ how many ND has signed but I doubt it would be over 2. They’re just more talented. They’re going to look at ND and say “we’re better than you so let’s line up and see if you can stop us”.

ND needs to score at least 2 TD in the first half or it doesn’t bode well based on history of these types of matchups. As a student-athlete, I really like Fromm. He’s the stereotypical All-American kid. You could see that when he was being recruited on QB1 series on Netflix. I don’t want him being injured...I don’t want any kid on either team being injured...but he needs to feel ND’s pass rush & it needs to be painful.

And that's part of the reason I'd eliminate the zone/read for this game. I'm only running if there is an RPO attached to it, otherwise I'd just as soon run out of the pistol or under C in an attempt to setup play action. The chances that we catch UGA slipping with a Book/Jones zone read for a big play seems very unlikely.

That's where I was going with my comment. Even for Wimbush and Kizer, who used it to occasionally spring a huge play, its overall presence in our playbook seemed like a net negative.

I mean even Kansas has had QBs over this time frame that can run the damn read with more effectiveness than ND's QBs have... I watch a lot of Pac 12, can't think of one program that has really tried that hasn't been able to do it right... so,.. off to the "Revisited" thread???

It's easy to be magnanimous when you're favored by 14 points and have a 51% chance of ending the season with no more than 1 loss, thereby clinching a playoff berth. No one here is being unreasonably pessimistic.

This is the first game that I can recall where the majority of ND fans are realistically expecting a loss. There’s the occasional radio caller who can construct a way that nd can pull off the impossible but most realize what’s coming & are hoping for ND to be competitive.

I’ve incl it on many posts but I even heard Gary Danielson & Rusty Mansell of 247sports (Georgia beat) say the same thing....there’s a handful of teams (bama, UGA, tOSU, clemson & OU) who are so loaded that their 2s & 3s could start & still compete at the highest level. There’s a drop-off after those teams & I hesitate to incl OU b/c of their lack of D but they’ve been in the CFP more than anyone.

There’s no shame in getting beat by a better team...just compete & get better.

I believe ND runs no-read zone reads where the QB is required to give. If you’re into slow developing run plays there’s no cost to making it mimic the zone read.

A true ZR means the trailing DE is supposed to be unblocked so they can dedicate one more guy to the play side. See if ND does that.

I don't think elation would have been an appropriate reaction either. New Mexico is a very bad football team. The margin of victory was appropriate given the talent and resource disparity between our two programs.

And there were still legitimate reasons for concern. Long's offense went 3/10 on 3rd down conversions, and two of those were directly attributable to NM penalties. Getting held to 1/10 on 3rd down by the Lobos' defense is Not Good™. But we otherwise took care of business, which gave some hope that we'll compete with Georgia. The team that showed up against Louisville? Not so much.

At least Vandy was able to gain over 100 yds rushing. I don’t see ND doing that thought

Part the negatives boys, there was a lot of good exposed in the NM game. It was chaotic but good. We settle down and get organized and it will be a game.

Georgia is a great team that has played a few cupcakes so far. This will be a real test for both teams.

Georgia's OL is probably the best in the country. They rank 1st in most categories that FO tracks. This will be a serious test for our front seven.

Unfortunately this will be a test for us and not them. This game I bet is over before half time, maybe sooner if Kelly has that terrified look coming out of the tunnel ex, Bama.

The 2019 UGA defense specifically the front 7 is not nearly as good as the 2017 UGA defense and specifically the front 7. That defense had Lorenzo Carter, Jonathan Ledbetter, Trent Thompson, David Bellamy (the dude who sacked and stripped Wimbush to end the game) and Roquan Smith (who was dominate that night and the whole year). Don’t get me wrong UGA has a really good defense this year, but it’s not on the same level as the 2017 defense.

And yes the 2019 ND OL is not nearly as good as the 2017 OL. But, there is a larger gap between 2019 UGA defense compared to 2017 UGA defense than the gap between ND OL 2017 compared to ND OL 2019.

So, on a bit lighter note, I'm planning a watch party for the ND - Georgia game.

In the past, I have tried to maintain a food theme that is consistent with the State in which the game is played. I love when we play Texas!

Any suggestions for regional delights from the State of Georgia? Not really interested in peaches or pralines and it appears fried chicken has come up often in my Google searches.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

You may be proven correct come Saturday evening but I can't help looking back at Texas v Georgia, Jan. 1st, 2019.

On any given New Year's Day... or Saturday.

As for Kelly... fortunately/unfortunately he is getting calloused to the experience. Not his first rodeo and hopefully he has learned a few things.

ND wins - Amazing
ND loses, but beats the spread - Good
ND loses by 14 - OK
ND loses by 21 - Bad
ND loses by 28 - Very Bad

Add one additional "very" for every possession's worth of point differential beyond that.

Edit: I'd say "Very Bad" is the cut-off for unreasonably pessimistic.
