Line already down to 7.
Line already down to 7.
Just a reminder that Purdue has also not been good at football for years. Might be worth taking the over...
Agree, but good enough to beat OSU a couple of years ago. They’ll be ready like every other opponent we face. Lol
I can't believe I get to have an aneurysm at the stadium next Saturday. That is if my 81 year old grandfather doesn't have a heart attack and beat me to it.
I'll be in town for this one as well for the first time in fifteen years. Planning on hanging at the Linebacker lounge for a bit before the game. Those who have been a more regular attendee than myself what's some advice for parking for these pregame festivities?
I think we can all agree that the first two games have strongly favored the opponents in terms of intangibles.
For FSU, it was their showcase night, Bowden appreciation, first game back from Covid, etc. They prepped months for that game and put all they had into it. ND is clearly still figures things out and to go into an atmosphere like that for Game 1 was a huge disadvantage.
For Toeldo, it was the same thing as FSU but better....they got ND on a short week after a hugely emotional game the week before. Plus, this was a cohesive team. Forget talent, they were a well coached team. I liken it to the "mid major" in the first / second round of the NCAA's. They can't match up 1-1 on paper, but they are team that has played years together and this is their one shot and the circumstances allow them to keep it close and/or pull off the upset.
Purdon't will be up for this game, no question about it. But I think ND will be on a more level playing field w/r/t intangibles heading into this game. I just hope ND isn't looking ahead to Wisconsin since David Bell can single handily put up 200+ yards this week if we are not careful.
I definitely agree with everything you've said, and Jack didn't do us any favors by scheduling Toledo on a short week after FSU. In his defense, I don't think he envisioned Toledo being as stout of a football team as they ended up being, but still. Please no more 6 day turnarounds after Labor Day. Either play Saturday afternoon, or give us a bye week.
However, there are so many red flags with this football team right now that I give me pause well beyond the intangibles that you mentioned above for both FSU and Toledo. Our OLine is just plain bad. It was one thing to struggle in a tough road environment at FSU when communication is tough and they had a few transfers coming in that gave FSU some immediate improvements. But then to come home and get pushed around and bullied for 60 minutes by a MAC team, no matter how cohesive that unit may have been, or how well coached, was simply a bad look. We had a distinctive size and talent advantage on paper and it is inconceivable that we got pushed around by a MAC front.
I'm not saying they can't improve but man...it's been a long time since we've had this many issues up front.
I agree this is concerning and if the line continues to play the way they have this is gonna be a real issue against Wiscy and Cinci. However, it was just two years ago that a Notre Dame offensive line was pushed around by Ball State...
Fair, but a lot of our issues that day were BK and Chip Long appearing to try and develop Wimbush by forcing him to stay back in the pocket and go through his progressions, rather than take off and run, which was always his biggest strength. IIRC, he had a TON of running lanes that he simply ignored and it was pretty obvious he was instructed to do so to try and improve his passing game.
I'm not looking ahead past Purdue and it pains me to say that. George Karlaftis is a projected first round pick and we couldn't contain Jermaine Johnson against FSU with our first string LT....
Some items I found interesting from ND's depth chart this week;
Buchner still listed as the #3 quarterback
Carmody is listed so his health situation must be encouraging
Botelho sighting as an OR with Justin A at Vyper (EDIT: both behind Foskey)
Kollie is on the depth chart as Bertrand's backup
Rover is Kiser OR Pryor OR Watts. As a reward for the position switch the staff is going to try and get Watts on the field a few times this weekend is my guess.
Hart back at starter

Purdue routed uconn this week after their coach was essentially fired. UCONN after not playing last year would maybe go 0-12 against an fcs schedule. Purdue beat Oregon State somewhat close in week 1. Oregon State doubled up Hawaii at home last night.

What times the presser today?
Why are they doing the stupid Irish wear green for this game? Gonna be a fail and the stadium won't be full again
