Hey guys, Texas fan here (obviously). Coming up with my family and curious about parking/tailgating. I've seen/read most of everything online, but was curious for real opinions. We'll have a rental car (2 actually) and want to just set up a small tailgate behind the cars. How is the golf course for that? Any good/bad experiences? And is it just pay as you drive in? Or is it worth shelling out more for a lot closer in?

Thanks guys, really excited about the trip. Should be a ton of Texas fans in town, so hope both sides have a good time win or lose.

You know, I went on Reddit and asked some A&M guys for some good Texas insults, and all they could give me was that boilerplate Aggie butthurt drivel. I'm glad we're playing you guys.

The Golf Course is pretty good for tailgating. There's lots of room to throw balls and grill out. The only downside is that it's a bit of a hike to the rest of campus, which you'll definitely want to see on your visit. It is, however, reasonably close to the book store. Hope you have a great time until 7:30 on the 5th.

Welcome. IDK why, but everytime we have a visitor from the opponent come here before a game, I read it in the voice of Drago's wife in Rocky 4.

Talking to anyone from A&M is one of the worst things you could do probably. There seriously isn't a way to describe them.

I have two brother in laws, one went to and taught at OU, the other is a huge Longhorn guy... my sister in law went to UT and my wife is also an OU alum... they all agree on one thing... A&M fans are the absolute worst and they were all glad when they left the conference...

I remember when A&M visited ND years ago. I think they were the nicest visiting fans I have come across at ND followed by Tennessee fans (both in South Bend and on Rocky Top) then UCLA.

Interesting, my experience with A&M fans and Tennessee fans have been largely negative... Tenn seems to have this odd obsession with ND... UCLA fans are great, very laid back, very much fit the surfer stereotype

Yea....UCLA fans just do give a shit. UT fans have always been great.

I really like UGA fans too. I was at the UGA/FL game before the ND/OU game in 2012 and this one tailgate basically treated me and my buddies like family. Even let us use their pisser, which is a big deal at that game.

I know this, my OU brother in law also used to work security detail, he's in the core and taught military courses at OU so it was a requirement of him and his students, at the stadium... he said some bases tend to be more obnoxious than others, but that A&M were the only base that you could count on being obnoxious, destructive, lewd and so forth... just his experience obviously, but that's what he told me. Again, he was pretty glad to see them leave.

Having attended numerous UCLA games UCLA fans care, they get into it like everyone else... they just don't let it rule the day win or lose... and they are very accepting of other fan bases (I wear my ND gear to every game) I've seen numerous visiting fans get stuck in the golf course/parking lot after games and UCLA fans are there helping out win or lose... smiling, just enjoying life... they even laugh at USC fans for the most part, as long as the SC fans aren't getting over the top and such ( I have seen some fights between the two, but can honewstly say each time some ghetto SC fan started some ish)

Plenty of nice Ags, and you'd normally get the "good" fans from any fan base when they travel to your place. Texas A&M is very cult like, it'd take hours to describe some of the things they do. Most people in Texas that aren't Aggies consider them an embarrassment to our state. But that's enough about them.

I'll take a look at the visitor thread. We're staying in town the entire weekend so we can see the campus and whatnot. Was lucky to get tickets for face through our allotment, but I know a ton of people that are coming up without tickets in hand.

You should make a checklist of things to see/do while on Campus.

My first taste of UT was back in 67. I remember seeing the tower and the marks on the tower from the bullets as the police tried to kill that idiot. UT and Austin are fun places to visit. I've been going to ND games since the early 70's. Fans who visit always leave with a good experience and plenty of nice things to say. Go to the bookstore early. It is packed on games days, even after night games.

How early would we (2 cars) need to get there for decent spots on the golf course if it opens at 8?

I do kind of the same thing except the voice I read it in is Johnny Ringo from Tombstone and most of it is in latin.

As mentioned earlier, I'll be in Austin next weekend for my best friend's bachelor party. Desperate to get him to fall in love with a southern girl that weekend so he doesn't marry the spawn of Satan known as his fiance.

If you don't care about the quality of the spot you will have no problem parking if you get there by 10.

Do you have a sense of how many UT fans are making the trip?

A shit load, by my count. A lot of people on the Shag are signed up for bus2notredame.com, and they're buying up tickets like hotcakes between $300-400 a ticket. Plenty more are going just hoping to score tickets on campus at a cheaper rate. Some will get lucky, others will not.

I really hope it is not embarrassingly many, like the Louisville game last year. I assumed because it was the last home game of a season that had gone sour lots of ND fans sold their tickets. There were points during that game where I could have closed my eyes and been unsure if it was a home game or not.

Not sure where my post from last night went. But there's going to be a huge Texas crowd. Hundreds if not thousands are coming up and still don't have tickets (although it sounds like they are now starting to bite the bullet on StubHub and other places). The bus2notredame people are expecting 90% of their 18 buses to be Texas fans. So they say. Couldn't speak on the L'Ville crowd last year, but Texas fans travel as good as anyone. And this game has been circled since it was announced. A bucket list game for both sides in my opinion.
