That was my first ever ND away game. Sat in a Purdue section, some PU fan threw up all over the guy in front of him, guy in front didn't even notice for 10 minutes. Purdue is straight up filth, man.

Which game are you referring to? Yeah, I agree...Purdue is a filthy place to be. Especially night games. They have "breakfast club" and the students get wasted before 10am then sloppy as hell come game time.

Then you have the Engineering factor...I swear PU is 7/1 guy vs girl ratio. Where is a single/young 20s dude supposed to mingle? It is certainly not at Purdue.

Last time ND played at Purdue a very inebriated student, goaded on by his also drunk friends, tried to physically intimidate my 73 year old grandfather.

Yeah, that was the last time I was there too...we haven't played them since. Night game and I had good seats (ND fans around) the PU folk were on my nerves and it had nothing to do with the game. Keep in mind I was a little tipsy myself but damn...

Some local tips:
Austin traffic is horrible, leave early for campus
No parking at stadium, park in garages downtown
Beer & wine available at stadium...yeehaw

Me too! I had a great time tailgating on Slater Hill (by the water tower) before the game.

Apparently their early-enrollee QB looked really good.

A few Texas guys on the Twitter machine think he'll be starting against ND. Might need to find a link to their spring game and do some scouting.

EDIT: Here it is for any interested parties

It would be fantastic if BVG got to harass a first-time starter at QB, against Texas, to open the season, for a second year in a row. How fortuitous that Texas ended up being in the middle of an overhaul for these two games.

Yup. Once Heard went down it was just a competition between Swoopes and Buechele. That offense has a chance to be bad again. Buechele has talent and I'm pretty sure was a target by the staff for a while before Book, but I'm not worried about a true freshman.

Amen. Heard will be back in time for Fall I think, he could still end up being the starter again. I doubt Swoopes will be in the picture, it'll probably be between this new guy and Heard I would think. The only thing I'm worried about is Texas brought in a new OC I believe. Sometimes teams find some success early when they switch OCs and/or offenses as opposing teams don't have much film on what they're doing and it's hard to know what exactly to expect. We'll have a lot of new starters for this game too. The game should be closer than it was last year, but we should still come out on top.

Actually, from what I was hearing, Heard was already out of the QB competition. It's Swoopes or Buechele. That offense is gonna struggle, but at least their O line should be better. They're still rebuilding and the boosters and fans are getting antsy down here.

Really? Swoopes wasn't hot last season. Heard was up and down too, but started most of their games and was the QB for the OU win. Swoopes only regained the starting job when Heard went down at the end of the season I believe. From what a lot of Texas fans on the Shag are saying it should be Buechele with Heard as a possible change of pace, or visa-versa. They gave up on Swoopes in 2014.

Opening the season with a 6'0" 190 pound true freshman quarterback with a true freshman center?

tumblr_inline_o1e3n9LkW91rn5drj_500.gif

I don't think the team has thrown Heard aside just yet. He was practicing just fine until his shoulder injury. Having him out of the picture is mostly just folks getting frustrated with his injury concerns and thinking Buechele will be a freshman savior.

They gave up on Swoopes until he became a battering ram behind that offensive line. You can look at the UT/Baylor game. Swoopes got the vast majority of the plays. It'll be Buechele, barring something happening with Swoopes probably being the change of pace.

Man, I hate to jinx it, but when you read that breakdown they sound like a terrible football team.

It's hard to imagine how far Texas has fallen since Vince Young and Colt McCoy, but Mack Brown was leading them down a dark path. We're talking about a guy that liked Johnny Manziel as a Safety, and passed on JT Barrett who really wanted to be a Longhorn. It's going to take a decent coach some time to bring them back up to speed, and Strong may not get the time to do that.

Weren't they down to something like 5/6 scholarship offensive lineman Coach Strong's first year? And it's not like they were under sanctions...

I don't recall the numbers, I don't think it was as bad as 5 or 6, but it was low. Texas fans referred to the mass transfers and cut players as "The Purge." When it comes to linemen, Mack brought 13 OL in from 2011-2013, but there were massive departures and they all didn't stick around for the 2014 season. Most of them were rated 4 star or better. Here's a list of linemen that should have been there when Strong started in 2014, and who he recruited since:

2015
Brandon Hodges - still at UT
Ronnie Major - still at UT
Tristan Nickelson - still at UT
Garrett Thomas - still at UT
Patrick Vahe - still at UT
Connor Williams - still at UT

2014
Alex Anderson - still at UT
Terrell Cuney - still at UT
Elijah Rodriguez - still at UT

2013
Rami Hammad - transferred to Baylor in 2014
Desmond Harrison - suspended twice, then let go
Darius James - transferred to Auburn in 2015
Kent Perkins - still at UT

2012
Kennedy Estelle - dismissed
Donald Hawkins - transferred into Texas, graduated in 2013
Camrhon Hughes - left program in 2015
Curtis Riser - transferred to Sam Houston

2011
Josh Cochran - retired after 2013 due to shoulder issues
Taylor Doyle - 5th year player, finished last year
Sedrick Flowers - 5th year player, threw a punch at one of our guys last year
Garrett Greenlea - medical in summer of 2014
Marcus Hutchins - 5th year player, finished last year

2010 (added for possible 5th years for 2014):
Dominic Espinosa - had a 5th year, but graduated and left
Trey Hopkins - no eligibility
