Seriously! I mean, you guys are obsessing over the etymology and history of the word "Sooner". This is just plain weird this year. So far, I see a lot of ND fans picking OU, and down here in OKC / Norman area, most of the radio and sports personalities are picking ND to win. I've already gone on record in this thread saying I think ND will win in a squeeker. Why are both sides so hesitant to pick their own side? This game seems to be missing the usual bluster and boasting that accompanies most big games. I get why OU fans are thinking ND will win (our terrible track record against ND, for one), but why are ND fans thinking OU will win? Personally, I refuse to believe my Sooners can run the ball until I see them do it against a real defense. ND's defense isn't the quality of last years squad, but it far exceeds anything OU has faced so far and is probably better than most of the teams remaining on OU's schedule. Mistakes and turnovers will probably determine this one.

Can't say exactly why OU fans are picking ND but my guess it has something to do with last years expectations and outcome mixed with this years opponent and the # of new contributors in major roles.

As for us. I think the biggest thing is a lot of our fan base has delusions of what the team was last year and set this years expectations on those delusions. We were not an offensive juggernaut that blew everyone out of the water and squeaked through a lot of close games. This years team certainly isn't last years team and an early loss against a team we know we are able to beat (no matter how many times we don't :(:(:() hasn't helped much. We also have a # of new contributors in major roles.

1. no run game
2. ? playcalling
3. can stop the dink and dunk passes + your wr's have big play ability
4. disappointing play thus far
5. not rolling teams we should have--temple.purdue
6. QB's seem to have heisman #'s against us ...minus MSU's qb's
7. the defense has taken a far greater step back than i thought BUT i feel we are starting to get our bearings

i feel we can def win in a close game...but i can also see us getting down quick and getting out of hand..BUT i will never pick ND to lose...23/17 ND

A) Yup.. I'm a weirdo like that.

I'm gonna drop it now, but don't act like it's OK. I happen to know that your University is a little better than that.

Read a frigging book.

B) I'm about to punch a wall.

To answer Hoosier's question, most ND fans here are pessimistic pansy’s and not rock hard men like myself....

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. As an OU fan, it's been frustrating for years now to see the talent level we've often had at RB and yet can't open holes for them. We have several good backs this year, none great. (except maybe this freshman Keith Ford, who, so far, has been pretty beast! He's not Adrian Peterson, but definately has shades of him) Your point about our WR's is certainly well taken, although they're pretty small, so if you're db's get physical with them, in a home game, that will help your cause greatly. I love Blake Bell. I love his toughness, leadership, the intangibles he seems to posess, BUT..asking him to go get a win in South Bend in his second start..may be a bit much. It does seem as if both teams are close to figuring some things out and turning a corner to becoming a legit top 10 team...it will be interesting to see which one (if either) does.

Our body of work this year sheds some light on why we're nervous about picking our team this year. Lost to a Michigan squad that barely beat Akron and UConn. Barely beat Purdue, whose only win is against Indiana St. Squeaked by MSU, who has no quality wins to speak of. Temple actually lost to Houston and Fordham, so nothing to brag about there.

The reality is, this team just hast come together yet. Someone else already mentioned the specifics in regards to our run game, play calling, defensive struggles, etc. this team has the capability of putting it all together, we just don't know when that's going to happen. It could be this week, or we could lose and spiral out of control...

As a ND fan there's no way this years defense will hold Oklahoma to such a low score. Also the Sooners are much better team with Blake Bell at QB and I just don't see the Irish winning this year. If ND somehow wins the score will be more like 28-27 and that's only if Rees doesn't throw any picks.

As NOT a fan of Notre Dame I hope the Sooners kick the sh_t out of Notre Dame. Regardless, every fan of College Football would still be forced to hear about this crap.

ND beat the Sooners 30-13 last year BUT after ND kicked their starting QB out for academics I predict a Sooners win too. Rees doesn't have a big time arm to stretch the defense.

As a ND fan..I would like for you to burn every piece of apparel you have and start watching Purdue football. Irish win this game by ten points. "

Bruce Feldman predicts 15-13? I can dig a close Irish win, but holding Oklahoma to 13 is just funny.

I am offended by the term 'poor children'

Had I been referring to the children's economic status I would have said impecunious.

I was espousing pity for their dispossessed, distressed state of living at the hands of their parents.

Long before Eisenhower ruined the cities with his dehabilitating interstate highway, these predominately Caucasian parents doomed their progeny to an existence in a Red state.

Do you think the OU colors were coincidence?

This is why I love this forum. In addition to the witty banter, I have to look up words that others use (I think myself a reasonably intelligent thing).

Can we stop bumping this thread with offensive offensiveness? This type of offensiveness should be kept in the "offensive thread."
