Hmmm...not trying to cause a stir but I disagree with a number of your points.
First of all, despite all the hype little brother is getting this year, they are a mediocre team in the vast landscape of college football. They are an above average team in the B1G, but this year that is not saying much. The formula for beating msu is simple and kelly made it look simple. You stop Leveon Bell, force their below average QB and below average WRs to beat you. Not going to happen against a team with a better offense. MSU had the worst gameplan I have ever seen going into that game. No misdirection, no screen passes, nothing to slow down your extremely aggressive front seven. It was absolutely pathetic from an offensive game calling standpoint. I think even you can agree with that.
I would also make the arguement no one in america knows what Michigan has in the trenches thus far. Look at our line play on both sides last year pre-ND. It was pathetic, disgusting, worse than this year by EONS! The first week this season we play a team that WILL be in the NC game, a team that has 1st and 2nd round players at almost every position on both sides of the ball. Not a good gauge of talent for this Michigan team, anyone with a brain knew we were in over our heads.
Air force...well you guys know all about playing service academies and the triple option. There is no way with 6 days you can prepare for a triple option offense on defense completely (unless maybe your alabama....), the service academies year in and year out gouge top level defenses on the ground.
And UMASS is the epitome of bad in D1-A football. makes me angry we even schedule these games, but it gives our reserves a good chance to get on the field for a game.
This game will be the telling performance for both of our line units, it is the first game this year that we play a team with comparable talent, and talent the likes we will see the rest of the year in conference play.
I do see that ND is feeling good this year with your first 3-0 start in quite sometime, and I am happy to see another historical program returning to the place it should be in the college football spectrum.
Your comment that we are squabbling for loose change though is pretty unfounded and spiteful though. Whether or not you agree with it, we won the BCS SUGAR BOWL last year, we have had top ten recruiting classes the last few years and currently have the number two ranked recruiting class in the nation, and after it is all said and done could have the number one class. If you think this program is stuck in a rut that will never be crawled out of, I really dont know what I can say to you to make you realize that is ludicrous.
Michigan fans with any sense of football knowledge knew the Bama game wasnt going to even be close! But can you really dog a team for going out and scheduling the best team in the nation and getting whipped? I would rather schedule the best team in the nation every year OOC, play in cowboy stadium in prime time, and get beat...than schedule youngstown state, UConn, etc. and beat them by 45 points.
