I have to disagree here. I'd say solid or average. Our DL dominated Texas's OL which made flowing to the ball easy for the LB's. Also, Schmidt is in the middle of the D, he's going to have a fair number of opportunities and tackles. When he was in 1 on 1 scenarios he's didn't do a very good job, if he does better there then maybe I'd say great. In fact, he got easily cut blocked on a few occasions. One of the reasons I'd said previously I was worried about this matchup for him.

His performance looks good on paper, at least. Texas has several athletic freaks who can make anyone look bad in a one-on-one situation.

I agree that our DL should get most of the credit for shutting down Texas, but Joe's involved in that too as the QB of the front seven. Trying to replace a veteran leader with an athletically superior underclassman has not worked out well for us during Kelly's tenure.

I'd be thrilled if we dropped Navy from the schedule. I'm sick of seeing our guys drop like flies every time we play them.
Please review last year's game and name one player who was injured in any part due to Navy's play style. I'll save you the trouble. It was zero. We had a number of defensive injuries that day and absolutely none of them had anything to do with a cut/chop/low block or anything that has anything to do with the triple option. But they were injuries against Navy, so the mythical cut-block boogeyman is naturally to blame.

After that UT win, I believe ND came into that game expecting to easily roll over Virgina. Then after that dominating 1st quarter, they became even more complacent and lazy (especially the secondary). That's mainly what I attribute to that game and as Bill O'Briens says, "there was no juice, we need more juice we're too flat".

However, let's see what happens Saturday. I'm very excited to see what Elliot has come up with and hope the Irish come out with a lot of juice.

We're going to light his ass up. You can't protect your QB on an option play. He might get the ball away to the RB, but he's going to get hit!

I'm not throwing in the towel on Schmidt yet but I'm getting closer to thinking Morgan needs more real game time. I don't think this is the week for it but if Schmidt doesn't play well this week, then Umass becomes a no brainer for me. One of two things have to happen. 1. BVG uses Schmidt differently. 2. Schmidt starts playing better.

I'm with you. Morgan's ceiling is so much higher athletically. Schmidt has the brains all day long and twice on Saturday, but it seems like he has lost a step. Whatever we all think about these two, I think we all know Morgan is the future. BVG either needs to use Joe differently, Joe needs to turn it up a notch, or BVG needs to bring along Morgan sooner than later. He can do this by dumbing things down a little bit, but I'd just be happy to see him inserted as you said, in games like UMASS. One way or another, we have to get that athletic thumper on the field for the sake of success this year, but more importantly to give him some experience for next season.

Georgia Tech has made a mistake scheduling 2 cupcakes to start the season with before playing Notre Dame.

I think that was a huge oversight for GT.

I'm loving the optimism in GT fans.

I feel like our pessimism is a bit unfounded regardless of our youth now thrust forward.

Parking in Bulla... if it's not raining, going to hit the player walk and then back to bulla or around to Joyce if buddies are there. Anyone in Joyce or Bulla?

FWIW, some dude on ISD posted that he heard Kizer has been lighting it up in practice this week throwing the ball. No idea if that's remotely accurate.

It's not like we blew the doors off if Virginia, and Virginia isn't death valley. I'm not saying we're not better than them, but they're better than virginia. Well have to limit the big plays. They can't beat us in the middle but they're fast AF.

It doesn't matter. Every week is a different ball game.

Will probably be raining. The last three games I attended in the pouring rain (MSU, UM & Stanford) were all amazing victories. I hope you have the same luck, homie.
