I've been one to defend our...less than stellar wins in the past as "a win is a win." But seriously if we don't boat race Purdue I'm going to be disappointed. I'm hoping for 50+ and for Golson to continue to build on his dark horse Heisman bid.

When a game is a "boat race", it's basically a shoot-out; lots of scoring and very little defense. We certainly don't want that, nor do I think Purdue is capable of it.

"Blast, "curb-stomp", "mollywhop", etc. better describe what you'd like to see.

I want to see us run for 250+. Reading Purdue boards, it sounds like their run defense is complete garbage.

If we're as good as we think we are, this game shouldn't be a contest.

Bama doesn't let teams like Kentucky hang around with them for 3 quarters. Its a disappointment IMO if we're not up 20+ at half.

Brian Kelly says A-Rod said that “it was one of the greatest experiences that he’s ever had” being at ND last weekend

What we really needed to know is, did A-Rod hook our players up with a little pick-me-up, a little MVP-helper? wink wink, nudge nudge

Purdue's offensive line is young and inexperienced. I watched them some and they looked bad. Purdue will be motivated to play much better on national TV after laying an egg last week, so we'll get their best shot. Having said that, we should still beat them handily. They have a few athletes but not many.

I think those salivating over a 42-3 thrashing will be disappointed. This has all the ingredients of a let down game. Notre Dame is flying high after last week, and Purdue is in the dumps.

Make no mistake, this IS Purdue's bowl game. They get a marquee opponent in a marquee venue.

With that said, they are hopelessly outmatched regardless, but IMO the game will be closer than anticipated from a point spread standpoint.

Shamrock game plus first trip away from home = no let down. 132 to -2.

In 2012 we couldn't blow teams out except Navy that we should have every game was close. Hopefully for us the our first three games are blowouts that shows our dominance. But we are notre dame so crazy shit happens.

Purdue (29). The Boilermakers have split two home games against Directional Michigan (beat Western, routed by Central). In the process they've given up nearly 800 yards and 72 points. That makes 13 of the last 16 games in which Purdue has surrendered 30 or more points.

The takeaway: if your team's color scheme is black and gold, change it. Immediately.

It will be 30 by gametime I bet.

I would say it pushes 32 or 33 with heavy betting on the Irish after the Meatchicken pounding. I know it has been close in years past, but ND is different offensively, and Purwho has graduated the defensive studs it's lucked out with. I expect BK to keep the O balanced again, however I foresee our running game being much more productive. Purdue won't load the box like UM, and their DBs will get dusted all night by our speedy WR core. Our young D will likely give up some points, especially in the second half, but all in all I'd bet we'll score somewhere in the mid 40s and give up 2-3 scores.

It is actually going down atm. Opened at -29 and I just saw -28. That is a lot of points, and this match-up lately hasn't seen too many lopsided victories. I can see why some people would be taking purdue plus points.

I'm not saying your wrong but if that happens it is a sign we are not an elite program yet. Like someone said in this thread Alabama doesn't let Kentucky hang around or have "let down" games against teams like Purdue. When Alabama has "let down" games it is against upper echelon teams. Purdue is garbage...I know they're in state rivals but that didn't stop Alabama from destroying Auburn a few years ago when Auburn sucked or from FSU whipping Florida last year.

No let down...no excuses. It is time to start asserting our will against lesser teams.

Urban Dictionary backs me up:
To be beaten very badly at something, especially in such a fashion that you were behind from the start and never had a chance. Comes from the Boat Race, an annual rowing competition between Oxford and Cambridge, in which the first side to get ahead can move to the middle of the river (where the current is fastest) and is almost never overtaken thereafter.
"Chicago got boat raced by Green Bay, 37-3."
