Orgeron isn't getting the job unless everyone on their list turns it down. If he was a realistic candidate, why contact the others?

Due diligence. Interviewing minority candidates, etc.

Yeah, I see that Fisher and Fedora meet the minority requirements. In a perfect world maybe but college football isn't a prefect world.

Fun fact about the mighty SEC this year:
Every team in the league not coached by Nick Saban combined to go a sorry 0-6 against the current AP top 15, a complete washout. There are but two victories against the current top 25 (Kentucky over Louisville; Tennessee over Virginia Tech).

And...
if Alabama beats Florida Saturday then every team in the league not coached by Nick Saban will have at least four losses. Already we have this: every team in the league not coached by Nick Saban combined to go just 5-9 against other Power 5 conference opponents (and BYU). That included last weekend’s trips behind the woodshed by Florida (31-13 loss to Florida State) and South Carolina (56-7 loss to Clemson).

The end of rampant oversigning has slowly but surely brought the SEC back to the pack. They no longer have the talent or depth edge they used to enjoy. Unless you're Alabama.

Great find and post. The SEC outside of Alabama is a mediocre league now.

Big 10 is the best league this year and the ACC might be the second best.

Last year the SEC East was 2-12 vs the SEC West. (Fla beat Ole Miss, Georgia beat Auburn).

This year the East is 1-9 vs the West (Kentucky kicked a 51 yd FG against Miss St as time expired). Four more cross-division games are to be played.
1. Florida vs LSU
2. Georgia vs Auburn
3. Vandy vs Ole Miss
4. Missouri vs Arkansas

Odds are that the SEC East will be 1-13 vs the West this year, totaling 3-25 over two years.

What do I know? The East won all four - Fla, Georgia, Vandy and Missouri won. Is the East better than we thought? Fla and Ga then lost their ACC rivalry games. Or is the West (except Alabama) not as strong as we thought?

The SEC East finished 4-10 against the West.

SEC finished 6-8 vs the other P5 teams in non-conference play (3-6 vs ACC).

Even an SEC guy like me won't argue this. Lots of coaching changes, turmoil, and HC's that aren't getting the job done. Bama is Bama and UF is on the rise with McElwain, but everyone else is pretty mediocre to bad right now. I expect to see several HC changes in the next 14 months.

SEC records and scheduling 2016 and 2014 comparison

SEC records and scheduling 2016 and 2014 comparison

In 2014, the SEC was 5-6 against P5 teams (1-4 against the ACC).
In 2016, the SEC was 6-8 against P5 teams (3-6 against the ACC).

In 2014, the SEC was 40-1 against G5 teams (only loss vs MAC team, Temple).
In 2016, the SEC played four less games against G5 teams and was 34-3 (losses to S. Ala, Memphis, Middle Tenn St).
-- the four less games against G5 teams than in '14, four more games against P5 teams (all ACC teams).
-- three wins were against Independent UMass (Florida, Ole Miss, S. Carolina)

In 2014, seven SEC teams finished in the top twenty-five in the final Playoff rankings.
In 2016 at this point, four SEC teams are in the top twenty-five in Playoff rankings. (Only Alabama in the top 12)

Remember, it's not my job to hide the benefit, but to conceal the evidence of how one gets the benefit.

How successful are you at your job, 3T?

Under the "Alabama and everyone else" (not really) topic, the SEC is 1-3 in bowl games so far with Arkansas spanking Virginia Tech tonight. Mississippi State beat Miami (O)17-16 with a blocked FG in the final seconds. Looking forward to the next three games, which should be good.

Mississippi State DB John Michael Hankerson reportedly is no longer with the team after his third arrest in a month. He reportedly is no longer enrolled at the school.

According to Starkville Daily’s Joel Coleman, Hankerson was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Horn Lake, Miss. on Wednesday on five counts of armed robbery, three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping stemming from an alleged incident on Dec. 17.

Coleman was told that Hankerson and two other unidentified black males allegedly robbed an apartment and “pistol whipped” the occupants while stealing items.
