And we're talking about some of the world's best salesmen here. 'Look, we know things come up. We're all about protecting our players and our school is behind that 100%. We understand things come up and if they do, we're going to help you not punish you'. Insert ND's example of punishing players.

How does that conversation go?

Saban: If you cheat, Notre Dame will take a long time to punish you.
Recruit: Screw that.

We weren't getting that recruit anyways.

They've missed two regular season games. I'd say their punishment started pretty quickly.

100% behind anything Phillip Daniels wants to tweet along those lines and I don't blame him for a second. If they're found not guilty and they've fucked with his son's chances of positioning himself for his dream, the NFL, fire away and I'll back it all.

People wake up. There is 100% no chance that the five players in question are not guilty in some capacity.

Speaking to a couple of students at the game last weekend (one of whom is a tutor to athletes), they were of the belief that at least one of the players was being held out b/c he simply knew that "cheating" was going on. All five will be receiving some kind of penalty (hopefully it ends up being time served not playing/practicing for the past month for at least a few of them).

I am as upset as anyone about how long the university is taking in reaching a conclusion but I have to believe, given the sensitivity of this situation, that it is being handled like this for a reason. Jenkins and Swarbrick have the benefit of the doubt in my opinion.

Phillip Daniels needs to shut up. Nothing he is doing is helping the situation. He has the right to be upset with how long it is taking, but ultimately when DD receives some sort of punishment for whatever his role was in this, everything he wrote is generally going to look stupid.

dought it

No, seriously that is an excellent post. It's easy to sit here and get upset, but we do not know to what extent of anything really, so why get pissed off about it? I hope it works out, and I want as many of the five back as possible, but we will find out soon enough and maybe we will be disappointed and wish we didn't know. Just let it play out fellas. It will be alright.

Sorry, don't agree with you. Phillip Daniels has every right to be upset about how the situation has been handled. He isn't doing anything to help the situation, but neither is the person who can...the Provost and/or President. And he hasn't been pressing the innocence, he has been pressing the fact that the situation has been unresolved.

He is also upset that the university has not provided any information to him or to his son. They keep giving him the "standard" answer. Sorry, parents and the student deserve better. Give them a date...this will be resolved on "fill in the blank". Give them some semblance of an idea of where they are in the process, why it is being held up, and what they can expect. They have gotten absolutely nothing from Notre Dame...and that would frustrate any parent (or student).

I'll concede that point as it pertains to public opinion but make no mistake, this will be used by other coaching staffs.

Negative recruiting by other coaches ... against Notre Dame!

Unlike Browner, Stonebreaker, Julius Jones, Gottlieb, Yeatman, Shepard, ... and scores of other academic and discipline situations, right?

You need to call Fr Jenkins immediately and alert him to the relevance of this mitigating fact to an academic hearing.

Be sure to send him the "ND kills dreams" tweet. He can put it with his Layden's 2000 Sports Illustrated article where T.J. Ducket's father said the same thing, as did Walter Payton, Carson Palmer, etc, etc.

Oh, I get it. Instead of reading my full post, you act like the whole intention of my post was to say that football is so important, Fr. Jenkins should be notified of this ground-breaking assertion.

Cute.

I'm kinda surprised no one has posted the Dean's phone number and email on here yet...haha. Much respect for our fan base, I know of several bases that would have done that by now, ha.

Fr. Jenkins is busy delivering speeches at the Shamrock Classic...he can't be bothered with trivial academic processes.

I'm surprised the students haven't raised hell yet.

Dean's office is first thing on search:

100 O’Shaughnessy Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556 574.631.7085 alweb@nd.edu

I'm calling them after work.

The whole thing is a shit show. The investigation ended TWO weeks ago. If you can't prove they are guilty, then reinstate them. If the evidence is enough to warrant expulsion, then expel them. The whole notion of them not being able to prove guilt but delaying a decision so they miss games as a form of punishment is complete bullsh!t. What about the other non-athletes that were involved? What type of "punishment" are they receiving for a delayed decision?

I'd encourage a lot of people to call and email. They deserve to feel a pinch.

I mean, there hasn't been any significant news in weeks... at very least put the process out there and don't leave the kids completely hanging like this,...

If they are cleared, I would lose my mind if I was any of the players...up to this point...they lost a big win against Rice, Shut out Michigan, and now the shamrock game. I'd kill somebody.

It would matter more if it was from Alumni and not football fanatics.lol

At the very least, I've spent thousands of dollars going to their losses so they can at least afford me a decision timetable, lol.

I'm calling. Save your breath by telling me not to. I'd rather call and have it mean nothing than to sit and say 'it's ok, take your time. It's only kids's futures and their final year on campus you're wasting. Not a big deal'.

Strange that these guys will now have served a longer suspension than what Ray Rice was initially handed by the NFL...and that is just to investigate the issue.

What exactly are y'all expecting to accomplish by calling? You think that they are going to pay attention to random people calling when they have people like Tom Mendoza breathing down their neck? :)

About as much as doing nothing, sprinkled with a side of hope, lol.

Slur your words and tell them you're Lou Holtz.

If you're going to waste some receptionist's time, at least be entertaining about it.

Have't sent, but considering this email:

"Hi there,

What on God's green earth is the hold up with the 5 suspended student athletes? The investigation ended over two weeks ago. Have you no precedent for handling potential academic violations?

I purchased the remainder of what is season tickets a week ago, presuming your office was competent and wouldn't be holding players hostage the whole year. I'm not thrilled to find out that significant players are being punished without being deemed guilty.

If they're guilty, punish them. If you cannot prove their guilt, release them. The time table you're operating under has become laughable and holding student athletes hostage while you spin your wheels on something that no doubt has precedent is embarassing.

Sincerely,"
