Since I've actually had to work today and unable to follow, I have a couple questions for anybody?

-Even with the talk of a bigger investigation, it seems like it's just the 4 guys, right? How much of a threat is a bigger story?

-Besides losing the players for the games, I'm having a difficult time seeing some of the outrage. The guys cheated. It seems pretty black and white. Why would some on here question their fanhood and/or surmise BK will leave after this? If he actually walks the walk and not just talks the talk, wouldn't he be one of the first guys to want to get rid of these guys if they were blatantly cheating? He talks about "doing it the right way" and right kind of guys (Ugh-- can't believe I actually just said "right kind of guy"), so I don't see why the school expelling students for cheating would drive him away from ND.

After following this story ALL DAY, I missed the presser...so, BK didn't find out until last night? If true, my theory of him purposely not mentioning Ishaq, Daniels and Moore in the preseason isn't correct...

But how does BK not find out about this until yesterday? Isn't this the type of improved communication between academics/athletics BK has been talking about for the past few years? BK is probably heated that he was kept out of the loop...

Nothing even started until July 29th, when a professor (presumably) notified the General Counsel's(?) Office that they suspected that some students had turned in work that was not theirs.

The University of Notre Dame is investigating suspected academic dishonesty on the part of several students, including four members of the football team. Because of the potential for NCAA violations, the university notified the NCAA today, and the four football players will be held out of practice and competition until the conclusion of an ongoing investigation and the university honor code process. Any possible academic dishonesty by other students will be addressed appropriately.

“Integrity is at the heart of our mission and academic misconduct will not be tolerated at Notre Dame,” said Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., the university’s president. “
If the suspected improprieties are proven, we will use the experience to reinforce among our students the importance of honesty in all that they do. We are also examining ways of better conveying to students that they can avail themselves of legitimate academic assistance without resorting to cheating.”
Evidence that students had submitted papers and homework that had been written for them by others was initially detected at the end of the summer session, and referred to the compliance office in athletics on July 29. The Office of General Counsel initiated an immediate investigation.
That investigation is ongoing. If it determines that the student-athletes would have been ineligible during past competition, Notre Dame will voluntarily vacate any victories in which they participated.
“The university is committed to thorough resolution of this matter, consistent with its commitment to academic integrity and adherence to NCAA rules," Father Jenkins said. Students who are subject to the investigation will remain enrolled until its conclusion.

I understand that, but I'm asking about July 29 to August 14. I assume they didn't wait 2+ weeks to start investigating, so why wasn't BK notified immediately? I understand it's an academic issue, not an athletic issue, but one thing BK has been adamant about in his time at ND is improving the communication between the academic and athletic sides of the university.

Asked early Friday evening what football coach Brian Kelly’s reaction was to news that four of his players were under investigation for academic fraud, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick’s response was short but to the point.
“Like all of us,” Swarbrick said at a press conference held at Notre Dame’s Morris Inn,” he was devastated.”
Just how devastating and far-reaching the investigation could become remains to be seen. University president the Rev. John I. Jenkins addressed what the investigation could mean for Kelly’s future.
“I want to say right now that we have great confidence in Brian and his staff,” said Jenkins, who said that there is no evidence that Kelly or members of his staff knew of the situation prior to the report made to Notre Dame’s athletic compliance office on July 29.
Jenkins put no timetable on the investigation.
“We’ll go as quickly as we can, but our emphasis will be on thoroughness,” Jenkins said.

My guess is Kelly found out that a complaint was filed on the July 29th but didn't find out till yesterday that the needed to hold them out of practice.
