Investigators will share updates in the investigation into the mysterious deaths of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his pianist wife, Betsy Arakawa, who were found dead in their New Mexico home last week.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office will host a news conference along with officials from the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, the New Mexico Department of Health, and Santa Fe City Fire Department on Friday at 2 p.m. MT (4 p.m. ET).

Gene Hackman died of heart disease, about one week after wife died of hantavirus: investigators

Hackman died of heart disease and Alzheimer's about a week after his wife died from hantavirus. Likely that after she died, he didn't know to call for help and was probably unable to feed and care for himself.

Wow, that actually sucks worse than any of the theories that people were coming up with. Alzheimer's is such a bitch, right up there with cancer. What an awful way for her to go unexpectedly, and then he basically was unknowingly neglected until he wasted away. Just horrible.

Was thinking the same thing and the dog likely died from the same hantavirus (but haven't seen any news yet on how dog died).

Something about the Hackman situation that leaves me shaking my head in disbelief: Hackman's 95, has advanced Alzheimer's and other major health issues, his wife is 65 and taking care of him, which is no easy task. She dies from hantavirus, he survives another week or so then dies, and it's another week or so until they're found. What in the world were they doing without any help around the house on a daily basis? Taking care of a man with Alzheimer's and other health issues, plus doing laundry, cleaning a house, cooking, and all the other things involved with running a household is a LOT of work for anyone, especially someone her age. Hackman was reportedly worth $80 million. How in hell do you not have a live-in housekeeper/cook, someone else who comes in 2 or 3 days per week to help out, and a home health care nurse come in a few days per week to help with Gene?

Or how does it go so long before one of his 3 kids or his grandkids or his friends not call by chance and get worried? I suspect I know the answer and if true, that's very sad... and scary to me.

Absolutely! There's no way in the world my mom, my siblings, me, my wife, or any of my kids could go more than 3 days, let alone 2+ weeks, without someone talking to any of us or noticing that something was maybe wrong and checking.

Like a bright, shooting star with inside info, he was never meant to last amongst the onslaught of questions of NIL, QBs, Campus improvements, MMFF, DTs, Jason Onye, the Transfer Portal, and Dale. RIP to the IE posting career of Merck. We hardly knew ye. May you find peace on 247.

40-0 George Foreman vs 38-0 Muhammad Ali

Good fight to re-watch in his memory this weekend. Maybe fire up some steaks on the George Foreman too. He’d like that I’m sure.

Well crap. How could you not love Big George? Totally reinvented himself over the years and went from being the meanest, scariest man in the world to a loveable, classy dude with a surprising amount of charm and intelligence, becoming the oldest boxing world champion and one of the wealthiest boxers in history. For all his charm and smiles, he could kill you with a single punch. Arguably the hardest puncher in boxing history. Just devastating power, and didn't need to wind up and throw a long punch to do it. He could absolutely tear your head off and put you to sleep with a 10" throw. One of the best ever and maybe my favorite heavyweight of all time.
