Actor Hal Williams died yesterday at the age of 91. Williams was a prolific character actor who is probably best known for his starring role on 227 and as Officer Smitty on Sanford & Son. He made countless appearances, mostly in the '70s and '80s, on The Waltons, Magnum P.I., Knots Landing, The Dukes of Hazzard, Webster, Tales From The Crypt, Night Court, The Jeffersons, Hill Street Blues, and dozens of other shows, appeared in more recent years on Parks and Recreation, and was still working as recently as last year on the Matlock reboot. Just a solid character actor who never lacked for work and whose face everyone recognized.

British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, the former British military special forces guy who became famous a few years ago from the film 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, where he climbed the world's 14 tallest peaks in 6 months, was killed Thursday in an avalanche in Pakistan.

Consecutive summits of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu in a 48 hour time span is literally insane.

Pastore's death has been ruled as natural causes. It appears that he passed away peacefully in his sleep roughly three days before his body was discovered. Most likely a heart attack.

Christmas Story is THE definitive Christmas movie. It's so well done, damn near perfect. We watched the sequel they did a few years ago, A Christmas Story Christmas. It wasn't as good, but it grows on you and nothing was going to live up to the original. They got almost all the living original actors back for that sequel, the only ones missing were Miss Shields and the mother, both of whom were in bad health I guess.

At first I didn't know if Julie Hagerty would work as the mom, she has that kind of diminutive voice, although she's obviously a comedy legend going back to the Airplane movies. The funniest damn moment for me was when she ducked and rolled when the Christmas carolers came to the door and then knocked out Raphie's wife. My own wife has a thing about carolers too, I could see her doing the same. :laugh: Honestly the more I watch the movie the more it grows on me. It gets a little dusty with the surprise near the end. The old man from the original movie was a treasure, he was the only thing that was really missing from the new film. They tied it back to him well though.

I’m from the land of ‘carolers are still a thing’??

I liked the second, one of the better nostalgia pushes from this era,… most of these modern updates/ sequels are horrible imo. I definitely did not think the new Christmas movie was horrible

No way it could live up to the original, but I agree, for what it was, it was done exceptionally well and avoided most of the usual corny, predictable traps most fall into. Definitely worth watching.
