Former CFP PxP man, Ron Franklin passed away. He was one of my favorite voices in CFB. He & Mike Gottfried used to call the Saturday night game on ESPN before he was fired. RIP.

Damn, all my heroes are passin' away. Meatloaf passed away last night at 74: https://www.reuters.com/business/med...74-2022-01-21/
Used to listen to a lot of Meatloaf about 12 years ago when my wife (then gf) and I got back together. I was trying to recruit her to duet with me in karaoke to do Paradise By the Dashboard Light, but she's never mustered up the courage to do it and I've given up ha.

Meat was one unique cat, loved his film stuff too like Fight Club, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and all his cameos. Fun fact, it's said "It's All Coming Back to Me" was originally written for Meatloaf, but because of a temporary fallout between songwriter Jim Steinman and Meat the song ended up going to a young artist that was still early in her career. That ended up being Celine Dion, who would make it a #1 hit. Meat would eventually record it years later after he and Steinman reconciled, but he was past his prime by then.

Howard Hesseman aka Dr Johnny Fever from WKRP.

The episode which a cop tested Johnny Fever’s reaction time after continuing to drink shots was a classic.

Only lasted 3 or 4 seasons IIRC, but was pretty funny. I watched it al the time. Didn't see Howard in much other work after WKRP. RIP Howard.

Top 10 Coach in NBA history it seems, and just inducted into the HOF a few years ago. Would have been before my time when he coached the Cavs though.

Ivan Reitman, a storied producer and director behind some of Hollywood's biggest comedies, has died, according to the CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group. He was 75.

Reitman was behind some of the 80s and 90s most enduring comedic films, including 1984's "Ghostbusters," which he produced and directed. The movie was a major hit and launched a franchise that spanned decades, including last year's "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," directed by his son, Jason Reitman.

Reitman was behind classics like "National Lampoon's Animal House" starring John Belushi, and "Stripes," starring Bill Murray, John Candy and Harold Ramis. Reitman's directing credits also include "Twins," "Kindergarten Cop," and "Junior," all starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and "Dave," starring Kevin Kline.

Just saw that Jeremy Giambi committed suicide. Sad news.

Probably best know for being thrown out at the dish by Jeter’s flip in the ALCS. Should have slid.

Reitman was a producer on a lot of other classics too: Heavy Metal, Beethoven, Space Jam, Private Parts, Old School, and of course the incomparable...Stop or My Mama Will Shoot!

Singer and keyboardist Gary Brooker, former frontman for 60's act Procol Harum, died this past weekend of cancer at the age of 76. Brooker wrote the classic “A Whiter Shade of Pale” which was loosely based on Bach's "Air On A G String" and went on to be one of the biggest hits in history, selling more than 10 million copies.

Mark Lanegan passed at 57. Might have been a result of after effects from COVID. He was front man for Screaming Trees back in the grunge days. Was close friends with Cobain. In the 1990s, he recorded an unreleased album of Lead Belly covers with Kurt Cobain. He was also in the band Mad Season with Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. RIP Mark.

Loved his voice in his prime. He got really strung out soon after and has battled addiction since. Watched some interviews w/ him on YouTube where he sounded fine but looked really rough. Rest In Peace.

Wasn't a huge Screaming Trees fan. This just makes me feel old that another guy from that era is now gone.

Eddie Vedder is the last man standing. I hadn’t heard a lot of Screaming Trees but I really still frequently listen to “Nearly Lost You” from the Singles soundtrack.

Vedder had his shit way more together than the rest, which manifests now in him still being alive. I recall thinking it even back then as a teenager.

I'm stunned Scott Weiland lived as long as he did.

Scott was a big ND fan. I got to see STP and green Day at Deer Creek back in the late nineties.

I think they said he had been clean for about 10 years? Even so the addiction is always there. It’s learning how to control it.

I met a neighbor of Weiland years ago on a customer ride-along. This dude worked for US Tobacco (or whoever owned Camel at the time). He said Scott was a great kid and could wring Scott’s big brother’s neck for introducing him to heroin. This was long before Scott died but I think even the casual fans knew his demise was near. Really talented front man who just couldn’t control his demons. I remember reading that Duff McKagan had gotten Weiland into martial arts upon the formation of Velvet Revolver. Scott enjoyed sobriety for a good while but it didn’t last.
