Revised Season Predictions

Mulligan time.

This was a popular thread last year, mostly because we were all kind of shocked at the result of the week 1 debacle against USF.

I know most of us didn't see anything completely unexpected against Navy, but did what you saw early Saturday morning have you yearning to alter your predictions a bit? Did the running game have you drinking the BCS Kool-Aid, or did the secondary play have you backing off your 10-win prediction?

I thought we were an 8-4 team before the game, and I think I saw enough, especially with Michigan and Stanford's struggles, to up that to 9-3, with an outside shot at 10-2 (the only games I think are significant stretches are against Oklahoma, even though they actually looked vulnerable, and Southern Cal).

So, what say ye, gents?

I'm still thinking 9-3 8-4.
But I'm gonna just look at these season 1 month at a time this year.
Let's just get through Sept. 4-0 3-1.

I was thinking 8-4. Thinking 9-3, maybe 10-2 after seeing teams like Stanford, OU, Mich, MSU all look pretty average.

I'd love to see 9-3. Don't overlook Michigan, Denard sold his soul to the devil and always plays his best games against our Irish. And that MSU defense is downright scary good. OU looked very average and Stanford won't be half of what they have been while Luck was there.

10-2 was my original guess, but I am more incline to think we have a better shot against OU. They struggled and their defense COULD NOT stop the run... gee, that helps us GREATLY.

Still 10-2, but I think the OU game is becoming more of a toss up game instead of an automatic loss.

8-4 before, 8-4 still. We didn't learn anything new by throttling Navy. I think we have the potential to go 10-2, but I don't see it happening.

In my opinion:

12-0 - 1%
11-1 - 5%
10-2 - 10%
9-3 - 30%
8-4 - 33%
7-5 - 20%
6-6/worse - 1%

11-1

That is only because of young corner play.

Also saw this on SEC board

I watched the Navy game. They are way too slow to beat any of the top 6 SEC teams.

thought 7-5.
thinking 7-5.

Been hurt too many times.

I'm about here... I probably would have predicted 7-5 at the start and I would stick with that right now. I think this team has ten win talent... but I also feel Bama and LSU couldn't survive this schedule without losing, and like the rest of the nation, we are not LSU or Bama at the moment.

9-3, with a bold prediction of being undefeated at home.

I probably agree with this.

Home schedule: Purdue, Michigan, Stanford, BYU, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest. They can certainly win all of those if they stay healthy.

Potentially, I think we can win every game....I'll go with 9-3 though, just because they'll lose some that they shouldn't.

ND 50 Navy 10
S08 PURDUE 3:30pm NBC -win, they can't compete with our o/d lines.
S15 @ Michigan State 8pm ABC -win, our QB play is much better than theirs.
S22 MICHIGAN 7:30pm NBC -Win our O/D lines > theirs, and Diaco won't let Denard kill us like the last two years. And we won the game last year (virtually).
O06 vs. Miami (Chi) 7:30pm NBC -win, they didn't look good against BC. Their QB play is average at best. Our O/D lines > theirs
O13 STANFORD 3:30pm NBC Didn't see their game, but they stuggled against a bad team and have a new QB, win
O20 BYU 3:30pm Trap game, but our O line > their D line. Win.
O27 @ Oklahoma Offense looked terrible, they couldn't run against utep and couldn't stop uteps run, win.
N03 PITTSBURGH 3:30pm NBC -they looked terrible -win.
N10 @ Boston College they didn't look good -win.
N17 WAKE FOREST 3:30pm NBC -win..
N24 @ Southern Cal -loss. Marquis Lee/Robert woods versus our corners is just too big of a matchup to compete with. Our o/d lines should be able to dominate theirs, but we barkley will be able to throw before the rush.

11-1

Said 10-2
Saying 10-2

Also, I have money on the line with a few OSU buddies that ND will end up with a better win percentage than the Buckeyes. It's going to happen.

Stanford is waaaaay overrated and vulnerable, Mich St. has no passing game, We are all-around better than scUM (Just like last year), OU had a close game with the Miners, who could only pass for like 20 yard in the first half. The only team that has more talent than us is USC. I seriously think ND will for sure go 10-2, maybe 11-1, and a long shot 12-0 isn't out of reach with a few injuries to USC (they are not as deep as we are through the whole depth chart). Fix the secondary problems and we got ourselves a 10-2 season guaranteed.

I think we could (doubtful) win 11. USC is just better. But every other game we should at least have a good shot at. Realistically I see 3 toss up in Michigan, State and Oklahoma. I think Ok is probably better, but we still have around a 40% chance (remember it is away, a 40% chance is really high, comparatively speaking) and maybe we are slight favorites over Michigan/ State. So say we win 1.5 of those games. I think we have better odds of losing vs. Stanford OR Miami OR BYU (or someone else...) than beating USC, so Ill go with 9-3, but it could be 10-2 or even 8-4 easily. The main thing we need is to beat the teams we are easily better than.

Imagine rolling into USC with both of us unbeaten!

Note: One thing that scares me is playing Miami Stanford, BYU and OK in 4 straight weeks. We will most likely be beat up going to OK.

Ohhhh yeeeaaaahhhh!

Seriously, if we go 11-1 we'll be playing for the national championship with our schedule. If you think we're that caliber of a team right now, you're high. We can be good, but we're not on the same level as Bama, LSU, SC...not yet.

I was 9-3/8-4 coming into the weekend. Still am, though maybe shading more to 9-3. Not because of anything I saw from us but because I watched lots of both MSU and Michigan and both look quite beatable.

MSU had no passing game, and I don't think our front seven lets Leveon Bell win the game by his own self like Boise did. That said, very stout defense, EG's first road game, always a tough opponent. So who knows?

And maybe it's not fair considering they basically played an NFL team, but Michigan looked like they've slipped back some. Denard's still not a comfortable passer and if we can do just half of what 'Bama did in the trenches, I like our chances.

As for the other tough opponents, too much happens between now and when we play them to judge much, I think. Though I'm starting to worry more about BYU.

Did any of your folks watch our secondary play?????? I was thinking 8-4 or maybe 9-3 before the season. Sticking with that given the not so solid play of our secondary.

If a true freshman who was a RB in HS is the second best CB we have, we are in DEEEEEP trouble. Not just because he is a freshman, but he played like it was the first time he ever played the position. You kool-aid drinkers better get ready for the SOUR flavor kool-aid. Our CB's will get eaten alive by MICH, USC, OK, and maybe MSU and others.

If we go 11-1, the 1 loss would more than likely be to USC. Considering losing the last game of the year is a death sentence, we wouldn't be playing in the NC game.

I don't think anyone is high being this optimistic. We have the talent to pull it off. Last year, the only game we really didn't belong was Stanford. We stayed right there with USC; I don't think they're that much better than us this year.

If we lose to USC as our one loss I doubt we play for the nat title. Alabama/oregon/usc/insert random SEC contender would probably jump us with a late loss.

Nothing I've seen has made me change my opinion on how things will play out. This looks like a 8-4 season. The secondary is still way too shaky, and they'll have to make big plays to win any more than 8. Also, we've not really seen anything from the QB position yet. We'll learn a lot from the Purdue game on both sides of the ball, so perhaps we should revisit this thread then.
