Put those games on his schedule. He refuses fire him that simple.

Hard to fire someone that is retired. Of course you would have known that if you read the article before you commented.

Of course knowing what one is talking about, before someone opens their mouth could change this thread entirely!

I love these people that want to punish someone for expressing their own rights, just because they don't agree with them! What chaos would fill the world!

Reviving this thread...

First of all, I attended the game against the Seahawks last week. I'll try to upload the picture later, but in the box I was in there was some interesting art. There was a piece of pottery with the Redksins logo prominently displayed... and the accompanying identifier noted the artist -- a Native American -- as well as her tribe, location, etc. The not-so-subtle point being made that "hey look... this Native American made a piece of art for us with the Redskins logo sooo..."

And then today, you have this today on the broadcast:

Interesting PR strategy... they're trying to undermine all the people who have a problem with the name by highlighting people that don't. I think it will backfire on them.

President of the Navajo until the next president takes office because that dude lost the primary. Finished 7th. He definitely does not represent the Navajo people well at all, and being at the Washington game certainly doesn't help.

RGIII's terribleness was perfectly illustrated on that last play. 4th & 6... can easily run for the first down, or can make a short throw to a receiver who has two steps of separation. Opts to throw and short arms the pass so bad that it's uncatchable.

The only reason he was drafted high was because of what he could do with his legs. Now he either doesn't want to or can't use them effectively when necessary... as such, he's one of the worst QBs in the NFL.

I saw the end of the game and RG III doesn't look healthy. He was laboring running down the field and was inaccurate with passes. He didn't look even 70% to me. Still better than Cousins, but maybe not Colt.

Then you really have to question why he's playing. It's both stupid and selfish for him to come back and play this week instead of sitting out and waiting until after the bye.

Will be rooting for everything bad to happen to the DC football team until they change their name. Was pleased to see a montage of RGIII getting hit today.

Dumb post. Why would you root for RGIII to get hit/hurt because Dan Snyder refuses to change the name?

From what i read from the nfl insiders is that there was a huge augmented between the head coach,gm and owner about RGIII this am.

I think it's a fair criticism to say that he should've sat until after the bye week. He also could've run for that first down on 4th down. But in fairness, he did about as well as you could expect him to do against a front 7 like the Vikings', who really had no problem collapsing the pocket and getting hits on RGIII. We all know that our O-line is suspect, and, as long as that's the case, we will struggle to make great strides with him at QB in this stage of development. If we had done to Teddy Bridgewater what we did to Romo/Weeden, we wouldn't be talking about RGIII right now.

Schadenfreude, mostly. I don't disagree that it's a dumb emotion, but Snyder's a dude I love to see fail. And if it means that a fan base who has, by and large, expressed a willful ignorance over the derogatory nature of the team's name suffers, I'm ok with that.

As for RGIII, I harbor him no ill will, and I'd rather not see the D.C. FBC rush him onto the field when he's clearly not ready. Once he's out there though, I'm rooting for him to fail, just like the rest of the team.

Makes sense.

Kind of weird fun fact though towards the bolded... polling/survey data shows that the percentage of DC area Redskins fans who want the name changed/find it offensive is greater than the percentage of Native Americans who want the name changed/find it offensive.

Hard to say they have "willful ignorance over the derogatory nature of the name" when more of them take issue with it than the people it is supposed to offend.

So, with Mississippi getting so much attention this year in football, how long before some groups pressure the university to stop using the term Ole Miss?

I know the university has tried to distance itself in the past, but it has been met with large objection.

But if people across the country are repelled by the term Redskins, I find it utterly fascinating that nobody has raised awareness toward a school calling itself by a name that slaves would use to describe the wife of a plantation owner.

Yeah that's interesting. As you acknowledge, it's an issue that has received some publicity:

'Ole Miss' Debates Campus Traditions With Confederate Roots : NPR
University of Mississippi initiative to stop using Ole Miss nickname because of past racist connotations draws student and alumni complaints.

but it hasn't generated the heat that "Redskins" has.

I suppose that stands to reason though. The people who are opposed to "Redskins" think it is a slur. No one is saying that "Ole Miss" is a slur ... just that it it is insensitive because it brings to mind a racist past. Even looking at both issues from the standpoint of those most likely to be offended, the injury is far less direct.
