Changing names seems like a money making proposition. Fans will need new everything after they're done being p!ssed.

Ehhhhh.... i don't know. There's a lot of value in a brand. You'd be optionally forfeiting all of that value developed over 75+ years by rebranding.

LOL.. I didn't see wooly begin his post with "Pat" and it was just under yours... so i had fun with it.

Whew... we cool then. I thought I was being fairly reasonable for a white liberal with Native American heritage who wants whitey dead which would include myself... ughh.

I can't wait till pat finds the link to the Mardis Gras Indians. This thread will become a nexus of .... I don't know... it might just end the universe.

LOL. Cause that's exactly what the point is not.

All in jest.....

The point is, if this name was being used in a offensive manner, then I'd agree they may need to look at soemthing else. But these are the FACTS:

A. Most native americans don't give two frogs fatasses about this....some even use the term (I've used many examples)
2. The name has been around 81 years. 81 years. NOW it's a problem? Sorry, but why is this just now a big deal? I've seen some complaints in the past, but nothing like the coverage it's getting today. Face it...it seems like a buncha self hating white liberals that need something to bitch about and appear noble.
D. Everything offendes everyone these days. Where does it end? Seriously. Someone answer that question.

Can we just focus on real problems? Like horrible "targeting" penalties and possilbly moving a team to London?

I've been to Nawlins many a time...we go every year to visit our plantation. Mardi Gras Injuns don't raise hell like these others. They know how to keep a mouth shut and my beer full...(in my best southern racist voice)

I wasn't calling YOU a liberal...but this is a white guilt liberal ploy.

Why? Explain why?

And Reilly (yeah, that Reilly) wrote a fantastic article on this very subject

And his dad his throwing him under the bus.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Rick Reilly's American Indian father-in-law says Reilly misquoted him on the Redskins name: <a href="http://t.co/dQ3Bu21cvU">http://t.co/dQ3Bu21cvU</a></p>— Deadspin (@Deadspin) <a href="https://twitter.com/Deadspin/statuses/388405039272054784">October 10, 2013</a></blockquote>

Now that we've all focused on the one person in the article that I care least about (Reilly's father)...

Find me one of those tribes or schools that was quoted and let me know if they were misquoted. He still makes a solid case and this is just a small piece of the article.

Because, this is all about the Native Americans, right?

(can you imagine a family dinner at that house? LOL)

I read his father-in-laws comments and thought: "He said what he said, probably didn't think he was on the record or at least didn't think it would go in an article, got lots of blowback, asked Rick to take that part out because he didn't know he was on the record or didn't like the blowback, and when Rick said 'no' went with the public statement route."

I think there is a 0% chance Reilly actually fabricated a quote from a family member. For all of Reilly's flaws, he was the best in the freaking business at one point and cut his teeth as a true journalist.
