The higher the pot, the lower your chances of winning. And they're abysmally poor for even modest pots. So...

That's not, true is it? Don't they pull from the same pool of numbers every time? So your odds of a win should be the same no matter who is playing.

Thought that also, your winnings get split up amongst the more people who win.

Same odds of winning, but the expected payout decreases once the pot is over ~$350M. This is because there is a very high probability of a split pot when the jackpot gets big.

The chances of winning would be the same regardless of how many people play. The odds of multiple people winning and you sharing the pot would be greater.

One thing I do find funny is when someone buys say... 10 tickets instead of one because it "increases their odds". Well, while technically true, it's statistically meaningless. Say your odds are 1 in 200 million to win this lotto, adding nine more tickets only increases your odds by a minuscule fraction of a fraction of percent (expert mathlete). Which means, your chances remain... For all tense and purposes.... Still 1 in 200 million. You just have $18 less in your pocket.

I can see it now "The Irish Envy Center for the Social Media Challenged" being built on Eddy St if one of us wins it.

would be a great place pre and post game, and all year long.

of course, would need the secret handshake to enter. keeps the trolls away. (mike frank too.)

We did an office pool for last night's draw. Hit for 122 bucks. rolling that back in and adding to it. while the odds are crazy against everyone,,, who cares... it's fun lol.

about 4 years ago, did an office pool (we only do it when it gets big like this), and we hit for 10k... my phone blew up after the draw :) as everyone gets a scan of the tix... was pretty fun.

you can still win money without getting all the numbers.

This...

Back in the summer of '87 when Andre Dawson was on fire for the Cubs, the Illinois Lottery became the first lottery to go over $50M. The week prior, my Grandparents matched the first 5 numbers sequentially and the last number was 1 and they had 2. Can't make it that sh!t up. Still impresses me to this day the calmness they accepted being that close and not winning. All I could think of as a 21 year old was... Damn! there goes my Lambo. I'm not sure how much they won but they built a new 3 car garage with it and the rest of it has been drawing .0009% in my grandma's trusty 60 day CD's and savings accounts. God bless her soul!

I'll probably buy a ticket for fun. It's fun to have a conversation with friends on what we're all going to do "when" we win.

Two chicks at the same time.

You can do that over at Koon's house any night of the week. Only cost two bottles of Boones Farm.

I suppose you can get something for his two roommates for their effort too, but Koon won't leave you alone without them bottles. So you better bring em...

I'm buying the Browns and making Manziel do Oklahoma drills until I get tired...

He's going to be looking for a job.. you could probably just hire him directly and get the same satisfaction for a lot cheaper. Buying the Browns to do it though... that's just throwing away money :)

I saw that the other day when the jackpot was around 350-400 million the return on investment (including all possible minor winnings, taxes etc...) was like -$1.14 or something per $2 ticket.

But who cares? Its fun imagining "what ifs". Getting you hopes up, thinking you might actually win it all only to be ultimately disappointed when its all said and done---- a lot like being a Notre Dame fan on a yearly basis.
