With TAMU most likely joining SEC this week, ND, Ark, and BYU is Big 12 primary dream replacements. Would ND be interested to join Big 12. The Contract with NBC should not be a big issue as UT has LHN, KU and KSU has internet networks. Plus they would additional income though ESPN basketball contracts, and allowed to have their own internet network too.

No.

“Our priority — and our clear priority — is maintaining our football independence and continuing to build our relationship with the Big East with our other sports,” said [Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack] Swarbrick. (August 29, 2011)

Yea, no offense KansasAlumn, but HCTI kinda nailed ND's feelings towards this right on the head.

We are doing just fine as we are, and we have a lot of rivalries to up keep. None of which are with anyone from the Big 12.

If ND ends up joining a conference at any point in time, it will either be the Big East or the Big Ten. That being said, it's not happening anytime soon.

Thanks for joining the site and posting though.

Furthermore, since ND will be starting a series with Texas in the near future, we can enjoy increased access to Texas' fertile recruiting grounds without joining the Big 12.

We like to have our cake and eat it too.

Furthermore, since Texas is interested in an annual Thanksgiving game with ND to replace its rivalry with TAMU, we can enjoy increased access to Texas' fertile recruiting grounds without joining the Big 12.

We like to have our cake and eat it too.

ND isn't going to play UTX in an annual game.

Notre Dame is also interested in pursuing a stronger relationship with the University of Texas. The two schools’ football programs are scheduled to play a four-game, home-and-home series, starting in 2015, but Swarbrick said there are no plans to make it an annual game.

I personally prefer the Big 12 and Big East over the Big Ten... so I wouldn't be too opposed.

I like the idea of a two league Big 12 that features:
North - Notre Dame, BYU, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State
South - Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Baylor, Texas Tech

I'm biased here because my grandma is really involved with MU and sits on some board of powerful people in Columbia and I grew up in ACC/Big East country. But I just do not like the Big Ten as a fit. Maybe it's too many memories of Big Ten refs screwing us, maybe it's my disdain for Ohio State/Michigan fans, I'm not really sure. But I really like the Big 12 league as I described above or an expanded Big East with:

North - Notre Dame, UConn, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Rutgers, WVU
South - Duke, UNC, USF, TCU, Louisville, Maryland

Can someone explain to me what is wrong with the big 12? I've never understood why teams always want to leave. Isn't it one of the top conferences in college football? Imo, the big 12 should of went after TCU, Boise St, and possibly SMU or Houston.

I agree with your posts, but I think if we were going to the big east i would want V tech in there. On another note if that was the big east could you imagine how much more dominant the big east would be at basketball....wow!

because a & m is jealous of Texas' power(longhorn network) within the conference...

You can also read this:

Austin sports news and Longhorns | Statesman.com

Commissioner Dan Beebe said : “Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin has notified the Conference of his decision to withdraw the university from the Big 12 effective June 30, 2012. The presidents and chancellors of the nine remaining member institutions are steadfast in their commitment to the Big 12. As previously stated, the Conference will move forward aggressively exploring its membership options.”

Wow, never thought that would happen so quickly. I figured it would happen, but not so fast.

^This.

Not going to happen, but wow...I'd be a mess.

Texas is the problem. They get to dictate a lot. There's also talk around here that Texas won't allow another Texas team to be invited. So, SMU, TCU, Houston....they'd all be out.

I am hearing that the league (Texas) will not invite another team w/in the Big 12's current t.v. footprint. They are eyeing, ND (no chance in my opinion), BYU, Arkansas, etc. It's all going to be based on TV dollars.

There is not a chance that Notre Dame would ever join the Big 12. Personally I think Arkansas would be a good fit.

Yeah, this is going to be a "mutually beneficial" swap for everyone involved. I see the Big 12 staying at 10 teams with Arkansas. Really interested to see if there is any swirl with BYU/ND though... because I'm pretty sure the Big 12 would let us keep our TV deal, etc.

Arkansas hated being in the SWC. They were the only team in an all Texas league. All the refs were from TX. The Hogs didn't like dancing to UTX's tune then, I don't know why they'd like it any better now.

Perhaps with A&M and Nebraska still there but without them, it's the Burnt Orange Giant and the 10 or 11 Dwarfs. OU may play for the title but when the Big 12 carves up the pie, UTX slices first.
