Biggest takeaway from this game is, (and this is something I never knew before) there is a right way to win 49-20 and a wrong way to win 49-20. And apparently I just witnessed the very worst way to win 49-20.

Education, what a thing.

Highlight of the game for me...I laughed my ass off....although I didn't notice it live.

ESPN Accidentally Airs Old Notre Dame Photo With Nude Man In Background (PIC + VID) | Total Pro Sports

Did ESPN clean house in production too? Seems to be working out as well as the talking head choices they made...

A tangential note here: Someone with money please get ESPN away from Disney...just the worst people for agile programming...sure disney has the captive audience thing down. Thats not the space ESPN or its competitors occupy, and it never will. I liked ESPN...root for it to remake itself...but under Disney leadership it is accelerating its decent into a steaming pile.

Dew-Treadway: First Game Played this Season (Injured?)
Fertitta: First Game Played this Season (Injured?)

INJ
Jones Jr: Wonder if he'll heal in time for MSU
Stepherson: Any idea how long he's suspended for?
Elijah Taylor: How long till he's back?
Weishar: Looks like concussion kept him out. Will he be ok next week?
Cam Smith: Will his ankle be a multiple week thing?
Nick Coleman: How bad's the shoulder?

OTHER
CJ Holmes: Did Kelly seriously burn his redshirt today? And for what purpose? He's 5th string RB

I think it's assumed Stepherson is on a 4 game suspension. Taylor isn't close to playing. Holmes did not play. The 4th RB was McIntosh.

Levy and Griese suck balls! That is all!

This. Reps.

Additionally the WR corps is way below average. I'm very disappointed in ESB. He has shown no hands. Combining this w BW's inability to throw accurately this team is very limited From a run pass combo perspective. Teams will continue to stack the box and make them throw to win and it'll get ugly against good teams.

Sir, we ran the ball. This isn't your Tony Rice offense. You gave it away with "I-formation" and "Daisy Dukes." Please head back to NDNation or be open to a new understanding of American Collegiate Football.

Go Irish!

OK...whaaaaat. They aren't called Daisey Dukes anymore...or am I not supposed to notice...or am I not supposed to appreciate it...or am I to assume it could be a woman who uses the men's room...which would make me gay...which is fine...really, I mean...nevermind.

The "I" formation has varients that work nicely in your new fangled world there sonny...provides some very nice down hill angles and misdirection...If you can see the game as angles, advantages, and leverage.

"The more you know"

I did not get to see the game and only saw a highlight reel moments ago. Kudos to the Irish for the dominating ground attack. Big accolades to Brandon and Josh for huge rushing numbers and showing a lot of heart and desire.

Not trying to stir things up, but this was a 29 point win against a team that typically gives us fits. Hope to see the entire game in the next few days.

Part the negatives lads... still early in the season. Proud of our guys. Cheers!

Nothing to add other than what's been said. Besides Martini. Anyone else notice how terrible he was for the 2nd week in a row?

If you happen to rewatch, take notice lf him om defense.

Post Game Thoughts:
1. Did you enjoy the Brandon Wimbush show??
2. Right now I like where our defense is at, they are improving each week.
3. I like our running game, however:
-- Josh Adams seems real slow in the open field.
-- Get Dexter on the field more.
-- If Wimbush keeps running like he does, the kid is injury prone.
4. EQ the last 2 games: 3 catches for 19 yards. If ND wants to have a chance with his brother A-mon Ra, get EQ the damn ball and implement this starting next week.
-- In looking at our past #1 wide receivers did Samardjiza, Tate, Floyd, or Fuller go over a 2 game span and only have 3 catches??

I am glad that the Irish won, I just don't have a good feeling that the Brandon Wimbush show can go out there and beat MSU, Stanford, USC, or Miami all by himself.

I get that he is a young quarterback only going into his 4th start next week and that he is a work in progress, but going up against the bigger name teams he has a greater risk of getting injured.

Go Irish and bring on the dirty Spartans!

They finished strong against guys that always play them hard. This was a good win. Our RTs had trouble for much of the game against their LDE. He seemed to be upfield in BMs grill on every play.

How is my post delusional?

Are tommy, Long, Kelly, and Wimbush not all serving in new roles?

Was this not Brandon's first road start?

Did Brandon not come out after half and find a way to take over the game?

Could the accuracy/not setting feet be due to nerves, not mechanics? Perhaps he knows how to do it, but is fidgety? Have you ever taken an exam and got a question wrong, not because you didn't know the answer, but because you "froze".

We had people on this board mocking him. Even after hitting a big completion to Smythe people insinuated that he wouldn't be able to do it again, as if it were luck. We had people that thought he should have been BENCHED (how do you think that would have helped his confidence?).

We genuinely have people on here that think he has plateaud THREE games into his career. You (haters) don't have any idea what he'll do next week, let alone this season.

If you can't see the flashes of greatness, mixed with immaturity and rawness, then I'm sorry.

How am I delusional though? What part? Delusional would me saying he played perfect. Of course he didn't. He made bad reads. He made bad passes. But he also made great reads. He also made great passes.

And most importantly, he struggled, didn't throw in the towel. Didn't cower to the bench. Didn't admit emotional defeat. He came back out in the 2nd half and broke the record books.

If this is delusional, ban me.

This fan base (some) suck. Absolutely embarrassing, resulting in tarnishing the name of our lady.

This is deja vu to the Malik Zaire conversation. It's irrelevant what he's doing with his legs in the context of the conversation. Throwing a couple of good passes doesn't make a good game. That is delusional. He is pretty bad right now throwing the ball. Through 3 games, he's arguably the worst QB we've had from the pocket during Kelly's tenure. He either doesn't understand the route concepts or he's too uncomfortable to let them play out. He is quite literally scrambling into pressure. He has clean pockets and can't see wide open WR's. There is nothing else to it. I think he'll get better but it is what it is. He has not been good from the pocket. Saying he made a couple of good throws is trivial. Who cares. He should make A LOT of good throws. And he should make even more simple throws, which he isnt even doing.

It's pretty funny having this conversation really and even the coaches were noticeably dumbfounded how he couldn't complete easy passes. So was ESB.

Saying a QB played well because he had 50 comp. pct. or lower because he made "some" good passes, is delusional. 50 or lower is bad.

ESB has his own issues to worry about. Average routes and drops are drive killers

I think Stephenson coming back will help out wimbush a lot but it's not all wimbush guys haven't been doing a good job of getting open or catching passes. Yes his accuracy is off.

Wimbush's passing will improve with time and modifications to gameplan. If the D and running came stays consistent, and the pass game improves slightly, this team is good. First half was frustrating to watch, but the second half was what I expected. Amazing, they rush for 500 yards and beat a team by 29 that usually plays ND to within a few points and the sky is falling. If this was the last few years this would have been a 3 point game or a loss.

Ppl who think fave value stay lines tell the whole story amuse me.

Watch how many holes he was slow to, watch how many times he set the edge poorly. Look at how many times he couldn't get off a block.

When Joe Schmidt had 10 tackles did you think he played well?

People who hang on certain player's jock straps amuse me. If you're lobbying for more playing time for Coney, Coney had some struggles as well. He missed a couple tackles I believe and was out of position on at least another play. Both players racked up a lot of tackles, #1 and #2, but there's a reason they're splitting reps.

I'm not lobbying for anyone. Coney didn't stand out to me good or bad. Idc if Jamir Jones, Coney, whoever take the spot. Martini hasn't been good for 3 straight games actually. Last 2 especially.

I actually didn't notice martini playing bad in the first game, only the last 2. But irish illustrated podcast said he was the most disappointing starter in defense versus temple.

Dude isn't playing good football.

BW will have to improve quickly as the Irish will face much better teams with much better front seven personnel moving forward. At some point BW will have to make some passes as opposing defenses will focus on run stopping much like Ga did.

What's the solution then? We're seeing a lot of production/action from that position with both Martini and Coney having a number of tackles. Do you bench Martini and force Coney to last all 4 quarters? Neither player has been perfect, that's why they're splitting time. Both are obviously producing though. It's rather amazing they're the leading tacklers on the team despite splitting reps.

Josh is the man!!

Had not noticed it in earlier games but noticed against BC he was wearing a single knee brace. Is this new? He seemed to stumble or stutter step on his first big run and that brace really caught my eye. Any news? Cheers!

Idk, this isn't a situation like the rb one, where the easy answer is give dexter the ball.

Idk what they need to do - get martini to play better, give Jamir Jones a shot, play Coney more, play Jonathan Jones - I have no idea. I just know martini is not playing well enough.

I rarely put my two cents in but I do read this site pretty religiously...

I feel like the "average" BK coached ND team for the past several years has:
*looked dominant early in the game...
*had a chance to put the game away in the first half...
*subsequently made a ridiculous mistake that shifted momentum to the other sideline...
*gradually ran out of gas...
*had a chance to win late but somehow failed, and...
*ultimately lost a very winnable game.

This season, while not an awesome performance thus far, seems to be straying from that narrative. The team doesn't seem to be fading... the mistakes aren't dooming them to another pathetic loss... and when they did play a better team (GA) they were able to hang in there as opposed to getting just throttled from the word go.

Lots of holes in this team... but through 3 games I'm actually a little encouraged. I can't get myself to "like" BK - and look forward to whenever he's not on the ND sideline - but so far this season I'm sensing a bit of progress for the first time in a long time.
