How many games could this team have lost last year and this year? Fine line between Kelly's so so success and being less successful than Charlie Friggn Weis.

Football's a game of inches and fine lines. We were inches from winning tonight. We didn't. But more often than not under Kelly we have. Settle down.

Personally think I'm just over the excuses and "yeah but's" ... Can we all admit this team is far from where it needs to be and go from there?

Absolutely. We need to trade up at QB, at safety, at middle linebacker, and we need better balance in our offense. But none of these (with the possible exception of MLB) are hard problems to fix.

No...Notre Dame will never be Bama. Just won't happen with the standards at Notre Dame.

But hey, Notre Dame could be on the same level as UGA and Florida. All three team have been decimated by injuries.

You can say injuries as an excuse and Tuitt being ejected as an excuse. But, honestly they are big reasons why Notre Dame lost tonight.

Things I have gathered from tonight
Questionable play calling
average at best tackling
Tommy made some really bad throws but also made some really good ones
Line pass blocked well for the most part.
Our run offense is not good at any position
Nice to have Day back
Bad call on tuitt
Bennett is no where near where I thought he would be at this point in the season
Jaylon is incredible for a true freshman
Kelly kept his cool for the most part in a game where he could have stroked out easily.
We are not good at all in zone coverage.
Robinson not play? Did not see him in there
Overall not a good showing all the way across the board. Gonna be a tough next few games as PITT is far inferior to BYU or Stanford.
Lots of dumb un called for posts already in this thread. Thank God most of you guys are only on here a few evenings a year. Go Irish

I have no clue what point you are trying to make here... Not arguing, ... Just saying.

I don't think the rule is bad but the interpretation of it tonight was.

He lowered his head. Q.E.D.

The fact that is head is attached to the shoulder he lowered first isn't germaine.

I don't think he intended headhunt but preseason and throughout the season it's been stressed "if a defender lowers his hat while making the tackle, he's is going to get called.

I think he actually took the tougher hit as the 6-5 Savage lowered his hat into the side of Tuitt's. Personally I thought Tuitt looked very defenseless on that play running parallel to the line being chased by an OL.

Which is not what the rule actually says. So frustrating.

Note 1: “Targeting” means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking
with an apparent intent that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing
the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to:
• Launch—a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward
thrust of the body to make contact in the head or neck area
• A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with contact at the head
or neck area—even though one or both feet are still on the ground
• Leading with helmet, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with contact at the head or
neck area
• Lowering the head before attacking by initiating contact with the crown of the helmet

Intent is clearly supposed to matter

Honestly I'm not sure myself.

I'm still confused why the coaches haven't played Eddie V yet this year with all the dline injuries.
The coaches are playing him. He is in the game right now and playing quite well.
Just so happens that his coaches are not Brian Kelly or Bob Diaco

When you've got your team leader, with 43 games played, making mistakes that freshmen make, you're in real trouble.

Kelly is know for developing players, but it did not happen with Rees. And when your senior leader fails so blatantly, you've got problems in your program. I think we're in real danger of losing to both BYU and Stanford.

When you lose to Pitt you're in real danger of losing to f'ing anyone...
pitt is a legit power house.

QB: Dan Marino=stud
RB: Tony Dorsett=stud
WR: Larry Fitzgerald=stud

I mean how is a defense supposed to stop that.

I'm watching he is playing ok. But who the hell is this Myles Jack kid? Didn't even know about him as a recruit last year.

The "game of inches" idea only has meaning in context of the quality of the opponent. Pitt sucks. So, when a team that sucks beats you by inches, you suck. And sucking is unacceptable, or should be, at ND. But it has been the status quo in the post Holtz era. Last year was a nice reprieve, but we're back to the other two Kelly years where we lost to Tulsa and USF. We sucked then and we suck now. It is what it is.

Yeah! But preseason this team was forecast as an 8-4 team with a QB that had NEVER started a season. Now were 7-3, and 8 wins has become a challenge after having more key players down to injury in any season since at least '97.

Injuries are a factor and the more inexperienced, less talented players you have to play the lower your likelihood of winning.

That's just dumb.

We should fire Kelly, Diaco, Longo and Sandlin!!!!

Tommy Rees gets way to much credit when he does something right. Seriously, its like some people treat him like a 7 year old boy with down syndrome..... "You completed a pass??? GOOD JOB!!! Wow you are really talented!!" Your supposed to complete a pass once in a while, and if the pass is a spiral half the board ejaculates. He's not good, not decent, not even average. I'm not saying he is the worst Quarterback in the country, I mean I'm sure there is some back-up Pop Warner kid who is worse (and Hendrix). seriously what positive trait does Rees have? He isn't accurate, no arm strength, has the elusiveness of a 70 year old paraplegic. You gonna say he is a good decision maker? Absolutely not, he stares down receivers and if a player makes a spectacular catch he will lock onto him for the rest of the night. The saddest part is that he is the best out of a 3 qb haul back in 2010. Seriously forget Hendrix, imagine how bad Luke Massa must be if he got beat out by these two. The only downside I can see of not Playing Zaire is that he might put on decent performance that might creat a competition controversy that could dissuade Golson from coming back and enrolling somewhere else next year.

Can you do us all a favor and not post here after ND losses as they seem to turn you into a 12 year old girl. Thanks.

Uhh...not that I think Weis is the worst coach we've ever had, he had some bright points...but Kelly is a better coach than Weis. For one, Kelly hasn't been destroyed by USC. In fact, other than 'Bama last season, Kelly hasn't lost any game by more than 2 scores since his first season here. Weis, on the other hand, lost by substantial amounts in almost every season to at least one team. We may not be stringing together 10 win seasons each year, but we're more competitive now than we were. Quite frankly, I don't see us getting any better under another coach. Anyone that would be better than Kelly either isn't coming to South Bend, or they wouldn't be an improvement. We've got to hope that once we get the offensive guys in place that Kelly wants, and we figure out what we're doing on defense, that we can get back to 10 win seasons.

Tommy sucked
The refs sucked
The offensive line sucked at run blocking
Diaco sucked with his "give them 5 yard passes, even though thats all they want to do" gameplan.
Fox and Calabrese always suck
Farley still cant tackle
Cam loves to run into the back of his lineman

TJ played well other than the fumble
Day played well
Daniels is missing Golson
Koyack is starting to look the part

Not many positives tonight. Turnovers and bad calls doomed them.

Jaylon played well, but he can make-up for the horrid defensive calls and how bad Fox and Carlo are.

Tommy is fricking horrible. Some beautiful throws, tons of inaccurate throws. Stupid grounding. Still the same stupid mistakes he made 4 years ago.

needed a back to make quicker cuts, and we BK kept Cam in there.

Need WR to do shorter routes on the last drive, and our coaches didn't do it.

Farley is getting worse as the season goes on. amazing.

Bennett talks a big game and has none on the field. Missed tackles, bad coverage, missed more tackles.

Lack of passion everywhere on the team. Including our coaches.

accepting bad play, and allowing it to happen over and over.

Ben is looking really, really good.

How can a senior with as many starts keep making the same mistakes? How? I know he isn't athletic---but how does he keep doing the same stupid throws? Still?

Day was fine, but absolutely had his head up his butt! Absolutely stupid. As was Fox I believe. No excuse at all. None. Good teams don't have as many brain farts as we do.

We have to be one of the worst turnover ratio teams in football. I am going to look it up, but we just don't force turnovers. Fumbles or Ints. Its crazy. Maybe if we were playing Tommy we would.
