sorry but the ncaa is being ridiculous about this, the guys bought bumper stickers before theses kids were even born and is considered a "booster" because he is helping kids from Africa try to get a college education through basketball

Thank you. I thought the same thing. He gave $185 to the program 20+ years ago and is considered a booster for life, although he hasn't given anything since that $185.

This just goes to show you how screwed up the NCAA is. Thank goodness he didn't buy them the foam fingers. It might have ruled they could never play.

how do these guys even get to play in college???!!!

NCAA rules two Indiana Hoosiers players must miss 9 games - ESPN

Can you explain what you mean by this? Do you even understand the circumstances? It's clearly a joke what the NCAA is putting these kids through. There are much bigger fish to fry and it's sickening how they went after two kids trying to get an education and using their talents to better their life, when all this so-called "booster" did was spend $185 on bumper stickers over twenty years ago. Give me a break. You can call foul play on Coach Adams and his organization and AAU teams all you want, but this single issue is NOT a problem and should have been left alone.

They were given permissible benefits just from someone who apparently isn't allowed. Meaning everything was okay, except the guy had done some minor donating/spending at IU.

It's pretty impressive they were able to find the $185 he spent over 15 years ago.

I think this turns into a 4 game suspension. Just guessing. I have no knowledge about these things. :)

They found the $25 administrative charge to defray Quarterback Club luncheon notice postage that Kim Dum paid. And declared her a booster on that basis. Meanwhile her employer was unable to recognize that she was embezzling about $1.5 million over a 5 year period.

Dunbar was a serial groupie similar to Susan Sarandon's character in Bull Durham. She bestowed gifts on her signicant other of the season and his friends. The NCAA noted this gave ND a competitive edge. None were recruits and all were enrolled at ND at the time and all were known to her in her circle of friend.

It was a gray area for the NCAA how to deal with personal gifts from a friend in a known relationship.

The enforcement committee was deadlocked in their verdict. Rather than leave it deadlocked, they went down the hall and got another NCAA employee, not on the committee, to break the tie.

Had ND appealed the ruling it would have been overturned as the NCAA violated their own procedures in deliberation and had established precedent in their expanded "booster" definition. President Malloy felt an appeal was ignoble and would not allow it. As such that "booster" definition went unchallenged and became the law on NCAALand.

Not an IU fan but I am furious over this suspension. Cam Newton gets 200K and nothing and these guys are suspended for 9 games?

More angry about the fact that it's 9, not 10. Their first game back is against Butler!

i'm jus curious in how different they seem to be about rulings. my understanding has always been that if you get benefits you lose eligibility and more recently they seem to be giving out warnings or slaps on the wrist so to speak. i just don't understand why they keep trying to compare apples to apples.

that's all sorry if there's any confusion.

This is ridiculous! Very disappointed with this as I do follow IU basketball. Hopefully they win their appeal, I don't think there was any malicious intent here.

This is BS, but as a hoosier fan... Not worried, Jurkin may not even play this year. Hannar would be a vital off the bench guy, but IU is still stacked to go 9-0 without them. IU is the #1 basketball team in the nation for a couple reasons... depth is one of them.

Your first post was asking how these guys were even still allowed to play college basketball. Your statement implies they did something terrible. As someone posted earlier these secondary violations were PERMISSIBLE benefits. Clothing, cell phones, a computer, airline tickets, etc were given to these two by their guardian. In this case, the guardian is considered a booster for life because of his donations (although extremely minimal) over two decades ago. You're right in that when a player gets benefits, they lose eligibility. That is happening to the tune of 9 games. Which is downright absurd if you actually took the time to read the facts about the situation and use some common sense. This whole thing makes the NCAA look stupid, especially when you consider players like Robert Marve who are still allowed to play football eventhough it's been proven that they were a part of the UM scandal. I feel absolutely terrible for Peter and Hanner and hope the appeal goes through and the suspension is reduced.

Absolutely ridiculous on the part of the NCAA. I don't understand how this a different situation than what happened in the Blind side. If it wasn't a violation then, why is it now?

ncaa needs to come up with a flat guideline oon how to deal with these issues...personally if you get compensation you should be ruled ineligible. way too many judgement calls to make special exceptions...yes it's sad these kids get taken advantage of and those who take advantage of them need to be punished by more than the law too

No, not a booster, but brings into question your fashion sense. I think this is worse.

Just idiotic. Dear NCAA, really.... go spend some time ruling on Miami and a dozen other schools out there.

Even inconsistent rulings are better than a blanket rule that automatically makes a player ineligible for college ball.
