We can make all kinds of excuses but in the end I would say Pitt just wanted it more. Just a sad fact. They had many times to put Pitt away and just didn't want it bad enough.

Two red zone turnovers, poor tackling, spotty playcalling, Folston with 4 carries? Combine that with all the injuries and guys playing injured and then losing Tuitt is just a recipe for disaster.

This was just a brutal game by ND. Losing to PITT and Tom Savage? Give me a break.

A lot of people will blame this all on Tommy but this was the whole team, coaching staff included. There's no excuse for losing to PITT. These guys just seemed unprepared to play tonight.

The Good:

-Pass blocking: Rees had all day to make poor choices

The Bad:

-Everything else

Tommy turns it over in crucial moments and we lose again.

Play calling got really bad in the second half.

Refs were unreal levels of bad. I mean holy hell at that Tuitt ejection and DPI call.

I will never understand why we were going deep on consecutive plays with 8 minutes left and we are down a score. Just move the sticks and eat the time and give yourself a chance to tie. Also, I said it 100 times, but I am so fvcking sick of seeing an empty backfield on 3rd and short. Finally, Amir can't catch a cold and Farly should not see the field again until he learns how to tackle.

I don't mean any offense, but the whole "wanted it more" saying is ridiculous.
It was a couple poor decisions that lost this game not want, will, or desire.

Unless you really think Tommy wouldn't have forced the ball into coverage in the end zone or TJ doesn't fumble if they "REALLY" wanted it?

-Tommy looked atrocious for much of the night. Always goes brain dead and gets reckless with the ball inside the red zone.

-Targeting rule is by far the worst thing to happen to football

-Worst officiated game I've seen...that last spot on the field ruling was laughable and so fitting given the other terrible calls made throughout the night.

-I can't blame Diaco for the defensive woes especially after all the attrition, but I'm officially done with Farley.

-Find a way to get your players on the field now that BCS hopes are gone.

-Absolutely NO EXCUSE for our guys on defense to stop on that fumble and not finish the play out...If you really think about it, Pitt doesn't two plays later have 1st and goal from the 5 if we just finish that play out.

-Over/under for IE bans after this game: 3

Completely abandoned the running game. Not to mention Folston. I just don't understand why he wasn't used more than a lead blocker.

Rees has played better this year then I anticipated. However, bad turnovers at bad times will be what he's remembered for. Sad.

Tuitt call was an absolute joke. Bennett Jackson call was a joke.

Sheldon Day..... C'mon man!!

Its really hard for me to bite my tongue when it comes to Farley. He has played just flat terrible for the majority of the year. Hes a special teams player on a BCS program. Eilar Hardy and Shumate are you're starting safefies.

Injuries are a bitch. Unscaved last year; not so much this year.

Positives:

* TJ Jones with another strong game (albeit with a crucial fumble)

* Ben Koyack with a solid outing

* Terrific pass protection

Negatives:

* Mediocre running game against an awful run D

* Our depleted front seven got WORKED tonight

* Tackling, especially in the secondary (SHOCKER) was atrocious

ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME:

* The unbelievably bad officiating

* Tommy Rees with the worst game and the worst pass (end zone INT) of his career

* Sheldon Day looked like a video game glitch on that fumble

Where is NDs intermediate passing game? Everything is deep or short!

Sounds like Charlie's could have done better with the talent Kelly has. Enough loyalty to seniors. They can sit senior day as this team is a leaderless ship. Kelly is NOT among the top coaches and he's lucky he got himself and his coaches their raises last year. Who wants to bet the NFL doesn't come calling this year? Of course we win with a decent QB and we would be undefeated with EG. I'm just getting tired of blaming Tommy over and over. It's a shame such a sh&tty QB will be in the record books for ND. This team does suck frankly and we'll see how bad the last 2Games.

I do thank them for finding a way to beat USC which I still can't figure out.

This years ND team suck! TR is going to turn the ball over. The defense is going to allow more points than needed. I will say that it is better than 2007-2010 but just crappy for the talent it has. Tommy will do what Tommy does and the secondary will help the other team score.

Worst game I've seen ND play in a few years, maybe since the Tulsa loss in 2010. I love the Irish but that was a freakin' train wreck. Never should have lost to Pitt this year. Bad, bad loss.

As I posted on the Pitt thread, but will give the punch line here -- I do not understand a game plan that favors Rees' passing over Folston's running (given last week's breakout). Four carries is not sufficient to say it wouldn't work. And Rees, who had some very nice passes in spots (that are easy to forget given the size of his key mistakes), is just too inconsistent from pass to pass to warrant making him the center of pass-based offense. E.g., they threw every play, when down by 7, with 9 minutes left, well before they had to. Inexplicable.

No, blame the game plan more than Rees. It led to quick offensive serieses, even when successful, and got a depleted defense back on the field, sooner, which wore them out sooner, which kept them out there longer.

And yes, the officiating was atrocious.

Most frustrating loss since Michigan loss in 2011.

Be Advised Posters

One poster already got sent to the penalty box tonight.

Beware there are a lot of mods logged on.

Don't make them work harder than usual. They lost as well tonight.

Tommy- accuracy is lacking again, though I still thought he'd lead us down for another score. That intentional grounding killed that drive.

Defense- we're just not making tackles like last year.

Coaches- WTF. The running shotgun at the 4 is getting old. We waste way too many timeouts either for taking too long to get the play in, or allowing Tommy too much authority to change whatever it is he's changing.

Edit: Playing to the whistle is the most basic function of the game. Hopefully we at least work on that these two weeks.

Softest football team I have seen in 3 decades.

Time to address the elephant and ignite the dumpster fire

Coaches got these players wound so tight it is insane!

I hope to see less of the senior class and more of next years team over the next few weeks. I'm not saying throw those games or play all the freshman over all the seniors... just prepare for the future. This year is over. It'll be an appearance in the pinstripe bowl for us. Hope we can ruin Stanford's day on the way out as a nice parting shot.

Oh and f*ck 2013. This has been a ****** year.

Tommy Rees gets way to much credit when he does something right. Seriously, its like some people treat him like a 7 year old boy with down syndrome..... "You completed a pass??? GOOD JOB!!! Wow you are really talented!!" Your supposed to complete a pass once in a while, and if the pass is a spiral half the board ejaculates. He's not good, not decent, not even average. I'm not saying he is the worst Quarterback in the country, I mean I'm sure there is some back-up Pop Warner kid who is worse (and Hendrix). seriously what positive trait does Rees have? He isn't accurate, no arm strength, has the elusiveness of a 70 year old paraplegic. You gonna say he is a good decision maker? Absolutely not, he stares down receivers and if a player makes a spectacular catch he will lock onto him for the rest of the night. The saddest part is that he is the best out of a 3 qb haul back in 2010. Seriously forget Hendrix, imagine how bad Luke Massa must be if he got beat out by these two. The only downside I can see of not Playing Zaire is that he might put on decent performance that might creat a competition controversy that could dissuade Golson from coming back and enrolling somewhere else next year.

I agree. Everyone knows Rees isn't very good. But going empty backfield when you need short yardage, throwing long repeatedly when you're down and need to get a first down, etc. are a few pieces of evidence for atrocious playcalling.

I really wish people would stop saying stuff like this. It makes it impossible to take anyone's opinion seriously when there are plenty of examples of 6-6 Weis teams fresh on all of our minds.
