1. Don't run the score up on God's team, and then thank your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after the game. Todd Graham is a tool!

2. Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers......... wow, ASU got the benefit of every possible bounce and break, in the first half. It was just too big of a hole to dig out of.

3. ND had more first downs, more passing yards, more total yards, and more TOP than Arizona State. If a couple of plays turn out differently, we are probably an Ohio State win from being back in the top 5 this week.

4. There was absolutely no quit in this team. I am pissed about the loss, but still am proud of those kids for not quitting. Almost got the greatest comeback in ND history.

5. Brian Kelly is the guy to lead this team. He's not perfect, but he is the right guy.

6. Golson got pretty seriously rattled. He had happy feet and was throwing falling away, for most of the second quarter. That was the first time I have seen him look that shaken.

7. This team can still finish a very respectable 9-3, and play in a New Year's Day bowl game, where they can maybe end up playing one of those "imposing" SEC teams. Beat the #3 or 4 SEC team in a New Year's Day bowl, to get to 10 wins, and the arrow will most definitely be pointing up.

Not going to add much, but props to Butler for playing a pretty damn good game overall. Also Cam/Folston/Golson for battling even though it wasn't their best games.

So, I ended up missing the game until the last 2 minutes. Aside from what sounds like a number of utterly disastrous turnovers, what are the other story lines from the game?

Didn't do well on blitz pick-ups.

Some posters on this board need to stop posting during games and possibly leave the board altogether.

1. You can't expect to win a game marred with all the mistakes and bad breaks this game was

2. This game is over wire to wire before BK arrived. I was very impressed with how hard the team fought despite shooting themselves in the foot countless times that looked like the dagger. They soldiered on until the backbreaking pick 6 late.

3. Gotta have a better plan for the blitz, no exceptions. That was unacceptable.

4. Defense needs to put in a full 60 minutes. You can't spend 30 "figuring it out" against a good team. I understand the injuries, but IMO a first half looking lost still happens with Schmidt and Riggs. That "last" drive where ASU walked down the field was discouraging.

5. The final score miffs me like something awful. It truly was much closer than it indicates.

6. Golson is one tough SOB. His jersey showed how much of a beating he took all game, and like Timex, he still rolled on.

7. This team is improving, but still quite aways from being near the top. Oregon crushing ASU in the PAC title game will magnify that.

8. GO IRISH, stay the course

1. we beat ourselves. Golson first half cost us the game.
2. fantastic defensive adjustments in the 2nd half.
3. mcdaniel was excellent in pass pro.
4. assuming we run the table, 11-2 with this young team is a good thing imo.

Shit happens. Valiant effort to get back into the game. Too many mistakes to overcome. Team wasn't prepared to handle the blitz and the adjustments took to long and we ran out of time and energy. Defense played well enough for us to win. I don't know if it is the coaches or Golson, but there needs to be a better job of addressing the early anxiety that is leading to these horrendous turnovers.

Look on the bright side, this team's very talented but young and makes mental mistakes. Physically, we're a top 10 team, or will be in 2015 no doubt. And we have the rest of this year to make mistakes and make a run for next year.

We can still win 10 games and finish with a bang at USC.

And we can root for MSU to fuck up OSU, lol.

Sloppy ass football. Again. 5 turnovers that could have easily been 7, 7 sacks given up, and another muffed f'ing field goal. This team could be very good if we could stop giving the fucking ball to the other team. Luckily we've played some shitty teams.

The fact that any point during the game we had a realistic shot of winning after that 1st half was a testament to our resiliency. Every possible bad thing that happen in the 1st half happened but we didn't fold up the tents, we never stopped fighting.

Todd Graham is a piece of sh1t. What a classless toolbag.

We need a new FG holder as well.

our best kicker missed the biggest FG I remember.

We would have scored multiple times if Carl hit that one fieldgoal. Worst case tied.

FUDGE...Im fucking mad

How this team rose up and almost made the comeback of my lifetime was inspiring. There are a few warriors on this team that blow my mind!

There are also few players on this team that let everyone down by their lack of effort and focus. I really wish we would get them off the field and into a knitting class.

Asu had a defensive plan caused us to change our entire game plan! Folston should have had 30 carries and 150 yds tonight.

I don't think the offensive line was very good today in pass blocking...they were good for a two count and then seemed to get shed. I also think EG held on to the ball too long fairly often...that combination leads to bad things. EG looked better in the second half...

uh, can we be done with the holder now... Probably a good kid, but he's got the yips...find him another role please...

Defense is YOUNG...and plays that way often...very athletic, very good at times...but then they kinda all go away for a series or three...injuries murdered any chance at stable, consistent performances from them...we'll likely appreciate them having suffered this in the years to come...but its hard to watch right now.

This was a very bad loss and will send ND to 19 or so...IMHO.

1) The offensive line was very poor today. Missed a lot of blitz pickups and couldn't open up a hole in the running game. Baffling, once you consider how well we've recruited in that area.

2) Golson is such a Jekyll and Hyde player. Very, very dynamic, but the turnovers have became a huge problem. I don't know what else to add to that right now.

3) The defense played well for most of the game, outside of the drive that made it 41-31. Not a great game for Redfield, and I don't believe Butler played particularly well in Riggs' absence.

4) Props to the young Irish for battling back in the game, instead of rolling over and dying. Have to respect that, and it's a good sign going forward. Kelly deserves some credit for that as well.

5) We need a new holder on FG attempts. Honestly.

6) I think we're the better team. Easily the more talented team anyway. But you can't constantly shoot yourself in the foot and expect to get away with it, especially on the road against a good opponent. I think ND will have the talent to compete for a NC next year, but they absolutely cannot be this careless with the ball. Kelly has to fix this.

7) Pretty classless move from Graham to run up the score.

8) I've never understood why some posters feel the need to discuss other posters in a game thread. If someone is over the top negative and you have a problem with it, that's understandable. But there's also people who are over the top positive and that can be just as annoying. I don't see why some posters feel the need to tell other posters how to post.

I don't think ND is top 5 preseason next year regardless of how they finish out this year. Too many self inflicted errors.

Hope we don't let this get us down. We haven't had our asses kicked in a while so it's itll be telling to see if we rise up or if we fall and I can see both happening. We win out and get into the orange bowl we can still look back on this season and smile. I will say that if we don't beat USC this season will be not one I would want to reflect on like 2011 (not awful but not one that I like to remember as much). We had been riding a wave all season and a good team wasn't going to let this happen. We needed to be humbled and we need to face fact that this wasn't our year. I'm not going to say I won't freak out or get royally pissed or negative again but this week at my job I saw some stuff I had yet to see in this line of work so I guess because of that tonight I'm not going to get too upset..... At least not tonight god bless and go Irish I hope we can rise above.

Only for part of the 2nd half. After ND scored, to make it 34-31, with just over 6:30 minutes to play, the defense gave up a 5 play, 75 yard TD drive. You simply can't give them points that easily, when you just clawed back to within 3.
