C'mon man, this isn't a "tit for tat" balance sheet where one atrocity can cancel out another. Yes, the massacre was terrible, but so was chattel slavery. It's one thing to defend Western civilization, but it's another to play into Wooly's game and bring up the killing of white men by black men as an answer to the calls of "but slavery".

We're supposed to approve of some Esquire writer condemning GOP voters for being too "white." I'd like to know in which town in Massachusetts Mr. Pierce lives- I'll bet it's pretty white.

We're supposed to be appalled by Steve King replying to this by saying that white people have made positive contributions to society. I'm not appalled by that.

The part of the story that everyone will cling to rightfully is the "where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you're talking about". The Congressman could have made his point much better without this line, but instead the message is tainted by his inability to think before he spoke.

There's no need to lecture an old classics major about the history of slavery in Greek and Roman civilization, but King did nothing to mitigate the reaction that he would receive. He may have intended to defend "old white men" and the contributions that they made to Western Civilization, the source of our own country and the heritage of the modern world, but at the same time, he denigrated others. I cannot stand by that.

I can't speak for Wooly, but I can speak for myself. I live in AZ so there isn't a significant amount of black people but my zip code is over 20% Hispanic (and about 5% Asian and 5% black). I believe that white people make up about 2/3 of the zip code population.

What is this suppose to prove? My first home that I owned was probably 50% Hispanic and 50% White.

Wait so the logic here is that pointing out that a disturbing number of blacks live under rather racist conditions (due to be forced either legally or economically to live in ghettos) is hypocritical because that person doesn't live in the ghetto with them? Liberals can definitely "sympathize" better than anybody else.

I believe that wealthy liberals use claims of racism as a tactic in getting what they want from the real estate market and from the school system. For example, when NYC was considering redrawing district lines on the Upper West Side, the paradigmatic members of the liberal gentry objected:
